But I just saw some star wars anatomy posts by @thatfunkyopossum​​ and it awoke an ancient star wars headcannon demon in my brain so here’s a diagram I drew up months ago on how I figure togruta’s crazy skulls work Anyway the way I (and many others) figure they work is that the montral/lekku system is what serves as ears for them. Kinda like human ears, there’s a bit of a transfer system involved, but unlike humans, togruta have all this on the outside. It starts at the top with the most sensitive sound receptors, travels down to the secondary receptors for clarity, and are dampened in the bigger chambers at the sides of the head. Most of the system is bone-protected except for those chambers, which just have cartilage.

As for the rest of the lekku I imagine it’s largely vestigial from when they used to gather auditory information through the ground, but they now serve as feelers and secondary sex characteristics. The one on the back doesn’t help so much with hearing as it does with communication, which is why I’m focusing on the front two.

But!! Because we’ve been blessed with Ahsoka Tano we can also see how it develops as a togruta grows up!!!! Which I also made diagrams for. I’ve slid some extra stages in there tho cause there isn’t any footage of togruta newborns.

At birth, the hearing organ is like a cushy lil helmet for the skull. They have an extra fontanel that wraps over the top of the organ, but it’s soft for now because. I can’t imagine giving birth to horns is fun. As the baby grows, this second fontanel will harden and fuse with the forehead to make a fancy little pocket for the organ, which will become the montral. Right now the baby’s hearing is very limited and the organ serves as more of a pillow than a hearing device.

By age 3, the hearing organ still isn’t very sophisticated, but has receded slightly from the top of the head for the leetle babby horns to grow around it. As such, the second fontanel has fully fused to the skull, but is still mostly soft. In some Togruta cultures, this is when they start helping the horns along by gently molding them over time. The lekku have also started to grow, but won’t be very long. At this age, their hearing still isn’t great but they can hear enough to start to pick up on language.

By age 8, the montral has fully hardened. Around now is when the secondary hearing organ becomes distinct and cinches off of the dampening organ, which tends to swell after this. Their hearing improves drastically as a result and their mastery of language will usually follow, but they won’t hear much from far away. The lekku are still short, but usually begin to curve away from the skull so as not to interfere with neck movement.

I imagine Togruta as generally longer lived than humans, and as such, puberty goes a little slower. At 14, they usually haven’t quite hit it yet, but are preparing for a hell of a growth spurt. The primary and most sensitive sound receptors have begun to form, and we start to see the lekku become longer. At this point, they can hear everything a human can hear and don’t have as much of a problem with hearing over distances anymore.

At 17, puberty is in full swing and the horns and lekku become much bigger. The primary sound receptors grow with the horns and the togruta can now hear some sounds that humans cannot. The lekku of togruta men don’t tend to grow much longer after about this length, but their montral keep going. Predictably, balance is usually a struggle at this age.

And at 25 the auditory system is mostly complete. For togruta women the lekku usually continue to grow with age, but sometimes they stop here. All their auditory receptors are fully grown at this point and can perceive lower and quieter sounds than humans. Whatever their sex is, the bones in the montral will continue to grow throughout their lives, but their growth tends to slow significantly after this.

This is the longest the sound system can take to fully mature. At this point the horns will continue to grow and the receptors may move a little to accommodate, but their development is complete. Togruta can now hear the fullest range of sound they ever will.

So au idea? because I'm hopelessly making aus every 5 minutes

Something about something called the CIP, Clone Isolation Project (name wip)

And basically the Kaminoans said "what if we separated the clones so they were less loyal to each other? They'll be more loyal to us, the only people they talk to, right?"

And then did a whole mess of a creation.

Their serial numbers are different, and structured specifically for them. For example, a clone who just goes by 1, his serial number is CIP-S2-321 which stands for Clone Isolation Project, Special 2, #321. There were 4 different types of isolation groups, and he was in the one designated by the number 2.

Some clones believe the S to actually stand for Specimen, dehumanizing them more behind closed doors.

At first they are given more freedoms and can see more of their brothers, but it was not giving the results the Kaminoans wanted so after 300 of each S group, they made it more strict and gave them less freedoms.

S1: These clones were kept to themselves. They were not allowed to interact with any other clones for any reason until they are assigned to a squad. They are only assigned to squads who have lost a member, and are to fill in for the missing or deceased clone.

S2: Individuals who were mostly kept to themselves. They are introduced to one other clone (an S3) to force learning to bond at a very minimal level.

S3: Individuals who did not have a permanent group when they were at the age to be assigned a squad like the normal clones. Instead, they are moved from squad to squad to spend a little time with each. This is also the same time they will be assigned to an S2.

S4: Individuals who were paired together in twos. They have no other clone interaction at all until they are officially assigned their squad.

These clones aren't the only ones in the group however. Each one leads a group of 9 other men, making groups of 40 that have 4 leaders. Some may be clones not part of the CIP! It depends on how the Kaminoans grade them. CIP clones do not (typically) work with the normal clones, do not have to listen to higher ranking clones, and basically rule themselves on missions. They're supposed to report to their assigned Kaminoan overseer and get missions through them.

So I’m in Clone Wars hell bc I still haven’t recovered from the final season. And I was torturing myself over how Echo and Fives losing each other (I’m emo over Domino Squad, don’t @ me) when the idea of a pacific rim au popped into my head so. Y’all get this, I guess.

I’m tired and also apparently awful at coming up with Jaeger names so like. None of these are great but. Oh well. If you’ve got better ideas, lmk

I also don’t have a solid answer on whether clones are a thing or there’s just a bunch of character that look shockingly similar or if they’re all related, or on wtf is up with Palpatine, the Sith, or like...any of the other stuff from the Star Wars side of things. This is literally me just word vomiting the stuff I’ve come up with in the last 20ish minutes so like.... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Anakin and Obi-Wan are drift compatible and copilots (Anakin is also drift compatible with Padmé; I’m still debating over whether they’d operate a 3-man Jaeger). Obi-Wan actually used to have a different copilot, Qui-Gonn, who was a kind of mentor figure to him. When Qui-Gonn was killed in a mission, Obi-Wan had to find a new partner and was Not Happy about it for a variety of reasons. He and Anakin didn’t really get off on the right foot as a result but they wind up being one of the best jaeger copilot teams ever seen. I can’t decide on a clever name for their jaeger, partly bc I cant decide if Padmé is also their copilot or not.

Rex and Cody are copilots, and their jaeger is called Ghost Torrent (after Torrent Company and Ghost Company respectively; I’m not dead set on this name so if someone has a better idea @ me). They’re a very good team, mimicking Anakin and Obi-Wan’s dynamic in the sense that Cody is very by-the-book and strict (Obi-Wan is more reckless tho) while Rex is more prone to making it up as he goes and more willing to break rules (not as much as Anakin but still). They’re brothers and also have high key adopted a few younger pilot teams to take under their wing. They often work with Anakin/Obi-Wan (or Anakin/Obi-Wan/Padmé as the case may be) and roll their eyes at how much Anakin and Obi-Wan bicker bc even though they have different styles they get along and work together almost flawlessly.

Fives and Echo are twins, and probably the fastest to pick up the drift. When they were trainees and doing the whole drift compatibility test in the dojo thing, Fives refused to test with anyone but Echo and it was immediately obvious how well they worked together. The first time they actually drifted in their jaeger was probably also incredibly smooth. Rex took one look at them and instantly adopted them. My idea for their jaeger name was Domino Avenger. I imagine the rest of Domino Squad were trainees with them and the five of them were best friends. I really want to imagine Cutup, Hevy, and Droidbait as still being alive and copilots together bc fuck canon but also like...the angst of them having died before completing training and fives and echo naming their jaeger to honor them.... :’(

If we’re going with canon, echo is believed KIA in a mission, so Fives has lost his twin and needs a new copilot. I think Tup would probably be the best option for this. The connection isn’t as instantaneous as it was with Echo, and Fives is definitely still mourning his brother so he’s kind of closed off, whereas Tup is still (relatively) new and excited to drift and get into a jaeger. They probably run into problems the first few times they drift similar to mako and Raleigh in the first movie bc again. There is an Echo shaped hole in Fives’s head and Tup couldn’t fill it perfectly if he tried. It’s not as natural and easy as drifting with Echo and Fives is torn up about it, even if he likes Tup. They eventually make it work and are a strong team.

I suppose if we were going by canon, at some point later...I don’t even want to begin to translate the whole brain chip, Order 66 conspiracy into this AU so. I’m not gonna. Easiest and most canon compliant thing would be for Fives and Tup to be on a mission and their jaeger takes a bad hit, Tup is critically injured and Fives is desperately trying to finish the mission and get them to safety so he can save Tup. Tup dies on the way, Fives can’t handle the strain of piloting the jaeger alone all that way and dies too....

But also FUCK THAT, my AU my rules, and I say that that’s stupid so. Tup barely survives and Fives is Very Fucked Up™️. He’s probably in no condition to pilot a jaeger, possibly ever again, and at this point he might honestly be done with it anyway. Also bad batch arc, Echo wasn’t killed, he was ripped out of the jaeger but survived, only comatose and then very foggy memories (side effect of being ripped so suddenly from the drift????). He eventually either recovers enough to remember on his own or is found by someone who recognizes him and he and Fives get a happy reunion and retire together bc I fucking said so.

Also Waxer and Boil and Jesse and Kix are also jaeger teams that Cody and Rex high key adopted but idfk what to do for their jaegers’ names and I’m sleep deprived as hell so...I’m just gonna end this here

My babies belong to the 343rd Battalion under my two Jedi OCs, Jedi General Siel and her Nautolan padawan, Nar'li. But let's talk about some of the clones! (I know that's why you're here)

Captain Griz:

He's more of their father than brother. He grew out a beard and has a hearty laugh that fills the whole room. He's always smiling around his boys and takes care of them. He does get a bit snarky if he needs to get his boys in place, but it comes from his heart. He loves to sit with all his fellow clones surrounding by him, all wrapped in blankets and safe so he can tell them stories. He'll bring in beers and they'll all sit together as Griz tells them a tall tale.

Medic Coin:

Coin's Irish accent will relax you to sleep. He's very laid back and is always working on some piece of art. He loves to paint and has designed most of the Men's armor, including Nar'li's and Siel's. When on leave, he's tucked away in the barracks humming happily while finishing some art. He's also gotten in a habit of doing tattoos on his men and on himself a lot more. Eventually the boys convinced him to sell his art, so drinks and snacks are usually on him.

Pilot Star:

Flirty, snarky, Star is easily the cockiest person in the 343rd. He loves fashion, no one knows why his blacks are better than everyone elses, but they are. He can give really good relationship advice and has dragged his drunk brothers back to the barracks. However, Star himself never drinks, he hates it. He'll drink an energy drink to start the day, no caf either. Late at night, if you want to have a real heart to heart talk, Star's your man.

Trooper Hammer:

A crazy little thing. He loves rotary blasters and is very loud. He's hyper and is almost impossible to shut up. He hates being serious and will act childish and foolish. But don't ever attack him for that. Hammer, like all his brothers, go through hell everyday. He's seen things he will never forget. Felt pain that could kill him. But he won't let it. So he laughs, jokes and acts a fool. Because he gets his brothers to laugh, and that's enough.

Trooper Hector:

Hector will keep you up with his singing. He's loud and proud, always belting in the barracks to due the amazing acoustics. Hector himself is rather quiet and bashful until you get him singing. That's when he's really living. He'll sing on the battlefield to lift the spirits of the boys. But when Hector does stop singing, something is terribly wrong. His favorite type of music are oldies, anything that sounds old, he'll sing it to perfection.

Corporal Blix:

Blix is stern, to say the least. He's stoic and isn't one to laugh, having a dry sense of humor too. He's been known to tell the men he's giving or taking points from them. They've gotten in a habit of saying, "Blix, gimme points!" Whenever they do something they deem worthy of Blix points. But does Blix ever give the points? No. Now what do brothers get for getting enough Blix points? Legends say they enjoy the best meal of their lives, made by Blix, of course.

ARC Trooper Rec:

Rec never holds himself back. He's hearty and loves to live in the moment. He gets too careless at times, but when he earned ARC, he realized that being crazy was worth it. With his brother Les by his side they were a dynamic duo. Even after Les changed, Rec is still the only person who can bring out that side of his brother. It'll take a few inappropriate jokes and a slap on the back, but Rec always catches Les. Without him, Rec wouldn't be able to live, they're inseparable.

ARC Trooper Les:

Les was fearless once upon a time, he'd laugh and laugh, always getting into trouble with Rec. But one day they got into too much trouble, the two were captured and tortured by pirates for ransom, they didn't understand Clones wouldn't get them anything. Rec was unconscious most of those long, agonizing times, but Les remembers all of it, earning his title of ARC along with his brother. But he lost himself, becoming paranoid and terrified of anywhere except the battle field.

penal battalions

Clones might be prison guards, but it’s unlikely the Republic would ever put them in prison. Sitting in a jail cell is safe, and that’s not what they were made for.

Besides, there’s a war on, and the GAR needs every combatant they can get. Clones that are charged with a crime get rubber-stamped through the courts martial and transferred into a penal battalion. Maybe that’s why there wasn’t much fuss about Krell’s casualty count; he had the convicts, the defective ones whose conditioning hadn’t quite stuck, and GAR high command was pleased that he’d gotten at least some use out of them. It’s not like the Kaminoans are going to give them a refund for faulty product anyway, not without a lawsuit.

Generally speaking, penal battalions are used to soften up the enemy and bear the brunt of their offensives. Chaff doesn’t live very long. Most sentences are months long, but are effectively life. Very occasionally, a brother will serve it out and return to their old unit; when they leave, their gear is snapped up because it might have their luck in it. 

No matter how long Dogma lives, he’ll never be allowed to see the 501st again. The other convicts see him as half holy because he killed Krell, and half damned because he shot a Jedi in the back, and it bothers him almost as much as the nightmares. Slick, though - Slick gets fragged as a brotherkiller three steps off the LAAT/i.

I got this au that's not rly developed, I focus on exactly One Clone OC and I Love Him.

So like, there's this group of clones that are just sorta There. There's 40 of them and they're in squads of 10, each led by a captain. They're supposed to have a commander but uh hmm about that-

Anyways, the 4 "captains" (they wanna feel special and I love them so let them be they can call themselves Captains if they want to) (actually it's just me not sure what else to call them bc I'm Bad At These Things) are all like, part of the same Team and they all work together, but each has control over their own other 9 men. None can tell the others what to do, but they also work on the same missions together.

They're very good at working together and always plan well together. There's not much arguing and they just do a very good and thorough job. Considering giving them No Casualties Ever but that feels op so We'll See.

And one of them I Love and I couldn't figure out a name at first and then smth in my mind clicked and thought about Toriel from Undertale, because this clone captain was like The Guy who had to teach this munchkin who's supposed to lead them everything. Is constantly commed because they always get lost and he has to walk them from place to place and helps them speak to the rest of them men in meetings and stuff.

And so I named him Tori and I Love Him So Goddamn Much. He has my entire heart and I want to hold hims h a n d please just let me hold it.

I’m not sure how they get their commander or general or whoever it is. Some young adult who has no idea what they’re doing, maybe like, 20 years old, never been in a “proper” fight, but like for an idea they just see these people on their planet be attacked by these machines and just starts whacking the droids with a stick they found bc first of all, same bitch

and then they help the clones!! Invites them home and now there’s like 40 people trying to squeeze into their two bedroom house.

The clones can set up a lil workshop, tend their wounded, eat some offered food, rest with a nice pillow and blanket because they deserve it all and more.

As the world falls to ruin and the fires of god knows what at this point burn it all down, the clones offer a hand to the young individual who once was alone, but not anymore.

They report less to who they’re supposed to and lowkey go a lil rogue ig and just kinda latch on to this new person and their big heart and their need to help the clones and keep them safe and give them some sense of home and comfort.

Like, maybe they crashed and the person is helping them maneuver their planet and to get a ship or something to help them, but then the clones see the world is just Not Good and offers for the person to come with them.

So I have this idea of super-powered alternate universe female clones. And them? Meeting the real clone boys and getting long?? Pl e a s e they're cute let them all be siblings and do fun sibling stuff and make fun of each other in the Best Way and laugh and have fun and :( <3

But one of the ideas I have is like, Female Rex, her name is a WIP but an idea: Roxanne but Ro for short or something. Hates when people call her Rox/Rocks adjgkjhkjh. Also has blond hair, has blue eyes though? maybe?? maybe not, hair shaved on the sides and Not Long but There's Hair on top and all laying to one side, and can metalbend. Her weapons/utilities I feel might be similar to Kuvira from Legend Of Korra, at least at first. But Swords? With gun/blaster hilts? And she sometimes just y e e t s them and then uses her powers to call them back to her? Please, I lo ve her. Dual sword gun powerhouse. I'm in love with her y'all.

Another one I really love is Wolffe's. She doesn't really talk, and wears a black scarf that also has a hood. The scarf has claws at the end and she always wears it and typically has the hood up. The scarf can extend and she uses it to fight, by grabbing and throwing things or people, or clawing/scratching them. If she needs extra support like to pull herself up so she doesn't just pull her scarf off, she wraps the scarf around her arms first before extending them and grabbing stuff, but it stays on surprisingly well and I love her guys. Her name and look are both WIPs but I already love her guys :( <3 She has my Whole Entire Heart
