Breakthrough in Quantum Computing with Zuchongzhi-3
A research team from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), part of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, along with its partners, has made significant progress in random quantum circuit sampling using Zuchongzhi-3, a superconducting quantum computing prototype equipped with 105 qubits and 182 couplers.
Zuchongzhi-3 operates at an astonishing speed, performing computations 1015 times faster than the most powerful supercomputer available today and one million times faster than Google’s latest published quantum computing results. This achievement marks a major breakthrough in quantum computing, building on the success of its predecessor, Zuchongzhi-2.
The Road to Quantum Supremacy
Quantum supremacy, the ability of a quantum computer to perform tasks beyond the reach of classical computers, has been a key goal in the field. In 2019, Google’s 53-qubit Sycamore processor completed a random circuit sampling task in 200 seconds, a feat estimated to take 10,000 years on the world’s fastest supercomputer at the time.
However, in 2023, USTC researchers demonstrated more advanced classical algorithms capable of completing the same task in 14 seconds using over 1,400 A100 GPUs. With the advent of the Frontier supercomputer, equipped with expanded memory, this task can now be performed in just 1.6 seconds, effectively challenging Google’s earlier claim of quantum supremacy.

Yes, China has developed an "artificial sun," specifically the Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST) nuclear fusion reactor. EAST is a tokamak, a donut-shaped device that uses magnetic fields and high temperatures to create nuclear fusion, similar to the process that powers the sun.

Chinese scientists have reached a milestone in directed-energy weapon technology, successfully testing a compact high-power microwave (HPM) system capable of firing over 10,000 times without failure, according to a new study.
The feat leverages the latest vacuum-sealing technologies in China’s high-end manufacturing sector to overcome long-standing barriers in HPM durability and miniaturisation, with potential to shift the balance in the global race for next-generation warfare systems.
Defence researchers with the Northwest Institute of Nuclear Technology (NINT) built the technology and conducted the trials, which were documented in a peer-reviewed study published in this month’s issue of High Power Laser and Particle Beams.

Chinese President Xi Jinping met visiting Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in Beijing, with both sides expressing great hope, confidence and determination to further develop bilateral relations to a higher level. Chinese experts said the successful visit proves there is little room for outside forces like the US to meddle in the South China Sea situation and interrupt the two countries' efforts to promote common development.
According to a readout released by the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Xi said to Marcos that "48 years ago, your father [Ferdinand Marcos Sr., former Philippine president 1965-1986] and the old generation of Chinese leaders" made the historic decision to establish formal diplomatic ties between China and the Philippines.
"Hopefully, your visit will not only be a 'trip of reminiscence' but also a 'trip of opening future.' China will always place the Philippines at a prioritized direction for neighboring diplomacy, and to insist looking the China-Philippines relations from a height of strategy and over-all situation," Xi noted.
Xi said that China and the Philippines are both developing countries in Asia, and the development of the two countries is rooted in a regional environment of good neighborly and friendly relations, and rooted in a big Asian family of win-win cooperation. "The Chinese side is willing to focus on cooperation and development with the Philippines and other ASEAN members, and safeguard the centrality of ASEAN in the regional cooperation." It will make the region get rid of the shadow of the Cold War, and free from bloc-to-bloc confrontation, and remain to be a high ground for development and prosperity, Xi noted.
Marcos said it gives him a great pleasure to pay the long-awaited visit to China and that this is his first state visit to a non-ASEAN country. Marcos said he hopes to prove to the world through this visit that Philippines-China relations are in good shape and important, and both sides are committed to upgrading the ties.
The Philippine president said during the meeting that the Philippines is willing to keep appropriately handling the maritime issues via friendly coordination with China, and will restart consultation with China on exploration and mining of oil and gas.
Marcos thanked China for the great assistance in helping the Philippines fight the COVID-19 pandemic, and he hopes after the pandemic, more Chinese people will come to the Philippines for tourism and study. "I have full confidence for the prospect of the China-Philippine relations' development," he said.
After the meeting, the two leaders witnessed the signing of a series of cooperation documents related to the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative, covering fields including agriculture and fisheries, infrastructure, finance, customs, e-commerce and tourism.

THROWBACK: CHINA STATE VISIT, 1975. Former President Ferdinand E. Marcos meets with Chinese leader Mao Tse-tung during a five-day state visit in June 1975. He was accompanied by former First Lady Imelda Romualdez Marcos and daughters Imee and Irene.
The Chinese leader assured the visitors that his country would neither overthrow nor exploit the Philippines. “We are one family now,” he said.
The pledge of noninterference was repeated by then Deputy Premier Deng Xiao‐ping in a speech at a dinner for the guests in the Great Hall of the People. “The great victory” won in Indochina means a new era for the third world and Asian people, he said.
Deng added that China would always respect the right of nations to choose their own social systems.

As the name translates from Chinese - “Heavenly Palace” - this orbital facility represents a revolution in space station design and capabilities for the 21st century.
From its striking modern architecture that looks straight out of a sci-fi film, to the astonishingly fast 1.5 year construction timeline, Tiangong is reinventing so many aspects of human spaceflight.

Yes, China has announced plans to put astronauts on the moon before 2030. The country is currently working on developing the necessary spacecraft and infrastructure, including the Mengzhou crewed spacecraft and the Lanyue lunar lander, to achieve this goal. The planned mission will involve two separate launches of the Long March 10 rocket, one carrying the crewed spacecraft and the other carrying the lunar lander.

China is building what will become the world’s highest bridge — a jaw-dropping feat of engineering perched between rugged cliffs. Once completed, this mega-structure will reduce a treacherous one-hour mountain drive to a lightning-fast 60-second crossing.
Stretching across a steep gorge in the Guizhou province, the bridge not only showcases China’s infrastructure ambitions but also aims to boost connectivity in one of the country's most mountainous regions. It’s being built with cutting-edge materials and precision cable-stayed tech to withstand extreme conditions.
This isn’t just a bridge — it’s a symbol of speed, scale, and innovation in modern construction.

Initiated in October 2023, the Thorium Molten Salt Reactor (TMSR) is designed to generate 2 megawatts (MW) of electricity—modest, but symbolically powerful. Backed by a substantial $444 million investment since 2011, this project marks the world's first operational instance of thorium-based nuclear energy
