too tired to articulate this but the current situation in los angeles perhaps most clearly demonstrates that a major part of the trump admin's MO is an attack on cities. the ICE raids are just part of it. physically, politically, idealogically they are trying to strip cities of all civil autonomy. conservatism has always been deeply disgusted by the city, especially these big multicultural metropolitan centers like los angeles and new york – by their nature cities are communal, collectivist, diverse, anti-individualist. undermining the city has always been part of the conservative agenda, whether through redlining and gerrymandering or other practices, but now they're getting more aggressive with it. we saw it play out during the protests in Ferguson and nationwide in 2020, and it's just going to ramp up from here.

the infuriating thing is that there is genuinely so much good queer literature out there, contemporary and not, but there is also a sizeable chunk of readers who think that a book only "counts" as good queer literature if it's a) unproblematic, b) contains romance as its central focus, and c) has the characters state their orientation and/or gender identity directly to the audience using socially acceptable 21st-century terms (as opposed to resorting to cowardly tactics such as Subtext and Themes)

For the purposes of this poll, "model nuclear household" means one family living together that consists of a mother, a father, and their biological child(ren), and no one else. No half siblings, adopted or foster kids, no other adults living in the same home. The biological parents are the only adults who directly parent the children, and the parents are together, and both alive and present (not in jail, etc).
