as i grow older and age in fandom especially, i have waning patience for 2012 style fandom wars. i don't have time for the type of person who goes "why is this the 2nd top ship on ao3 when it bugs me", i don't have the energy to be friends with people who go "i specifically expressed dislike for this ship and people still write it?" and i have absolutely no time for someone who goes "this very personal trauma i have projected onto this random character and ship should be recognized and agreed by everyone else, otherwise they're bad people"

caitvi angst fic idea

caitlyn died in the war. jinx survived.

ambessa went for her heart instead of her eye and pierced through, right before the black rose got ambessa.

since vi jumped towards jinx before it had been too late they both saw caitlyn die and vi ran to her.

she got buried alongside her mom.

tobias ended up giving the kiramman estate and legacy to vi, saying it’s what cait would have wanted, and tobias himself went back to family in ionia.

months after, vi had found singed and forced him to bring caitlyn back.

caitlyn did, she somehow did, the wound where she got stabbed would glow, but other than that, physically she seemed fine. although there would be moments when vi would notice her pale skin or blacked tips of fingers, or sulken eyes.

when she woke up the first thing she noticed was vi and said her name. when vi would talk to her and call her cait, she denied being caitlyn. she said that wasn't her. she doesn't know who caitlyn was.

caitlyn, on the brink of a melt down, having a panic attack about being told who she was, wanted vi to leave her alone. so vi did, but vi also confronted singed, asking wtf he did. this wasn't her caitlyn.

singed said to give her time.

vi went back to caitlyn, but she wasn't where she left her. she looked around the estate and found her in caitlyn's room. panicked, she bashed the doors open, she wanted the room untouched, wanting it to be exactly the same as caitlyn left it. it still smelled like her and she would stay there often to be engulfed by her presence.

she found caitlyn lying on the bed.

when vi didn't say anything, caitlyn says that she might be caitlyn. she'd been reading her diaries and they sounded like how she would think. she had looked around her room and it was how she would have it, if she had a room.

she still doesn't know anything else about vi or herself but she at least trusted vi. at least a bit more than she did.

vi takes her on a tour of the estate, but it was mostly caitlyn telling her what each room was and how they were used. vi was getting excited and hopeful.

somehow they find themselves in the place where cait died and caitlyn took a full hour and a half sitting at the spot where she had gotten stabbed and processed what had happened. vi almost picked her up and brought her back, but caitlyn insisted it was helping.

afterwards they go home and go to bed. vi says she'll be in the other room, but caitlyn is up in the middle of the night and asks vi if she can sleep in the same bed. vi obliges and ends up snuggling.

in the morning caitlyn asks how they met and tells her to take her there.

they go to stillwater and back down to vi's isolation cell. they talk about the new rules and how the lower cells are now forbidden. caitlyn remembers forging jayce's signature and asking about him. vi says he's gone and doesn't really know what happened to him. caitlyn has a moment think she had just been with him.

vi takes her to the bathysphere saying that caitlyn bought tickets to see the undercity, and that this would be the perfect time to, with all the new things going on. but cait is looking over the edge.

she looks back at vi and winks before jumping off. vi follows and honestly almost has a heart attack. vi was able to follow a lot easier than caitlyn was when they first did this, but vi had been in panic mode the entire time. when they landed on the ground, she apologized to caitlyn saying that yeah she could have died when they had done this about a year ago.

vi reminisces how long ago it had been and caitlyn reassures her that vi's stunt in making caitlyn follow her had actually made caitlyn so much more attracted to vi. flirting between them ensues.

then they reach babettes and somehow even more flirting. caitlyn saying she knew she was into girls, but the girls she was into were different from vi so when she first met vi she'd been intrigued, curious, and very interested.

they trace their steps into the rubble that became vi's first home and then to the place where they first meet jinx and get kidnapped by the firelights.

vi takes her to the firelight hideout and that's when caitlyn starts acting weird. when ekko and other firelight members see her and vi they make weird faces and caitlyn becomes uncomfortable. ekko tries to make them stay, just until jinx gets back. but caitlyn insists they go back home. she's not feeling well.

so vi takes her back. but caitlyn pushes vi away saying she needs space and that she shouldn't be here. she doesn't belong in this world. vi gives her her space but when she gets separated from her, her anxiety comes back and she can't stay away from caitlyn for long.

she already lost her once and she'll be damned if it happens again. she checks in on her in her room but theres no trace of her. panic sets in and she sweeps the estate. finally she check inside her casket and caitlyn is there trying to sleep. or fall back into death.

vi begs her not to go. and that if she goes then vi will go with her. she cracks a window and brings a shard to her neck, asking caitlyn not to choose death. and caitlyn tells vi not to do it. she says vi deserves a good long life with a person she loves and that jinx still needs her.

vi says jinx has ekko and doesnt need her anymore. she says she needs caitlyn.

caitlyn says she can't.

flashes of sunken eyes, the rotting wound, blackened fingers litter vi's image of caitlyn.

she hears shouting muffled, then getting louder and closer to her. ekko arrives with jinx, jinx grabbing vi's hand that holds the shard and vi looks at caitlyn's rotting and decaying body.

she was never able to find singed.

she'd been dragging cait's dead body around, hallucinations of conversations and hopes for the future. it had all been in her head.
