I had to vote yesterday and my son had his first soccer practice of the year last night! Busy day, but unproductive. Hoping to stay busy today, but with school this time! 🪷

In my ancient humour class we were given prompts to write a funny story with. Everything I write is horrible. This should be a simple project but apparently I’m just not funny? It’s due Wednesday and I’ve got nothing.

Male Witches In Early Modern Europe by Lara Apps and Andrew Gow
I read this non fiction book for my thesis, I found it quite randomly on jstor. Since in the witch trials I am working on in my thesis start with a man accused of witchcraft, I thought it might be helpful. It was really interesting, the book was published in the early 2000s, and strongly critiques the far majority of witchcraft historiography that funnly ignores male witches. It was really eye opening, and it had some really good basic but interesting points. I feel like it's a great read if you are into the history of witchcraft persecution, as male witches are very often looked over. This book shows clearly how it is not werid to think about a male witch, it was more common than it was thought, and men were processed just like women. Though women were clearly the majority of victims, and often the image of the witch is linked with womanhood, witchcraft wasn't a sex-specific crime. A part of historiography can give off this idea, and this book puts a bit more balance in the big picture of histoical studies of the subject. It is fundamental to pay attention to all parts of events, one cannot think they can understand an historical even when ignoring a section of it.

I grabbed a pile of dust, and holding it up, foolishly asked for as many birthdays as the grains of dust, I forgot to ask that they be years of youth.

I‘m done with all my presentations! It had still been a pretty dumb idea to do all my work in May, but at least I can relax a bit for the rest of the semester.
My presentation on historical gardens went really well, surprisingly- working with old maps is not my favorite type of research tbh. But we took a nice walk through a beautiful garden, the weather was fantastic and I only dropped my notes occasionally, so overall, a win 🌼

I had a fairly productive long weekend. I can’t help but feel like I’m falling behind… I have a test on Thursday and I somehow haven’t even finished all the readings.
Sometimes being a single parent and being in school full-time is so hard to balance. I have a Zoom meeting tonight right before my kiddos bedtime, and I am so exhausted.
Hopefully I can get everything done for my India and the World class today, so all I’ll have to do is review my notes/flashcards tomorrow and Thursday.
