Hi. Hey. I'm over here losing it about Shannon Diaz but on a legitimately unrelated note here's chapter five.

Summary:

Buck and Eddie share a first kiss. Then three years later, they share a first kiss again.

Snippet:

“I’ve been having these strange moments of deja vu ,” Eddie explains. “Since that night at my place. I didn’t understand it, and now…”

“Now we’re both sure that wasn’t our first kiss, but neither of has any idea why that is?”

“Yeah,” Eddie scratches his chin. “Yeah, are we insane?”

“Like, is this a collective delusion?” Buck asks.

“Is it ‘collective’ when it’s two people or is it ‘mutual?’”

“Does that matter ?”

“No,” Eddie agrees. “So, what do we do?”

When he reaches the worst of the blaze, where the heat is thick and suffocating, he sees the smoldering blast radius in the encampment, and several sets of turnouts, all blurring together in the haze. He sees Ravi, helmet thrown off, expression wild, bent over Jake, doing some sort of medical intervention. Captain Cooper is with him. Eddie doesn’t look too closely, but what he does see doesn’t look good.

Eddie can’t focus on that right now.

Ravi and Captain Cooper are there. They have him. But where is–

“Eddie!”

He whips his head around to see Lena, kneeling over Buck. Buck, who is limp and unconscious on the ground. Lena’s got him in a c-collar and Eddie just… 

He feels himself shaking. 

He can’t breathe. 

He really can’t breathe.

Fic Update: change the prophecy

Happy Monday! Here's chapter four! It's a juicy one.

Summary:

Daniel investigates what his parents know or don't know. Eddie talks to Buck.

Snippet:

Eventually, Buck hides on the roof during their downtime, trying his damndest to read a book about men and bisexuality that was recommended to him by several internet lists. He’s been trying to educate himself as best as possible lately, but it’s a little hard when his brain is preoccupied with life-altering realizations beyond the matter of his sexuality. Bisexual awakening? Child’s play in comparison to this, really.

Eddie doesn’t quite seem to take the hint that Buck is trying to be alone. He finds Buck on the roof and strides on over to him without a care. Buck tries to keep a neutral expression.

“Hey,” Eddie greets him. 

“H-hi,” Buck stammers, closing his book. 

“Can I come over after shift?” Eddie asks. “I need to talk to you about something, away from work.”

Fuck.

Shit.

Eddie knows.

Buck has known he’s in love with Eddie for not even a full forty-eight hours and Eddie fucking knows. What on earth did he do to give it away? He’s been very stand-offish and aloof! A regular mystery!

Here is a little bit of what I've managed to write of the next chapter of Any Other Way :)

So, one sunny hot Tuesday in July, when Eddie shows up at Buck’s to pick up Christopher, only to find the two of them camped out in front of the apartment’s AC unit, each with a popsicle in hand - Buck’s red, Christopher’s bright pink - listening to pop music, playing Connect 4, he is reminded of just how much they need Buck, too. They don’t hear Eddie walk in through the apartment’s unlocked door - Buck has told him not to bother knocking while Maddie isn’t home - so their conversation continues where it was, as if he’s just a fly on the wall.

“You’re really good at games,” Chris is saying. “And you don’t always let me win. Tia Pepa always lets me win everything, it’s boring. My mom never did that.”

“Hmm,” Buck says, dropping a token in a slot. “Maddie never let me win all the time when I was little, either. Said it would make me better at the games we played and a better sport.”

“Did it work?” Chris asks.

Buck smirks. “Well, I always win at Scrabble, but I always lose at poker.”

“My mom loved Scrabble!” Chris announces. “I don’t know how to play.”

“I can teach you. I think there’s a kid-friendly version I can buy.”

“Yes, please!”

Eddie doesn’t know why this makes him want to cry. Just that it does. Just that it seems big and important in a way Eddie doesn’t have words for.

Fic Update: Steal My Sunshine

Okay I know I JUST SAID I'd be writing slower, but this chapter was already almost finished. STARTING NOW!

Here is chapter four :)

Summary:

Eddie struggles to get out of New Mexico.

Snippet:

It’s Christopher who points out, focused more on the signs than the road, how utterly bizarre they are. 

“ Turn back ,” he reads. “ Stay in New Mexico, where everybody is who they’re supposed to be.”

“What?” Eddie asks. 

“That’s kind of weird, isn’t it?” Chris asks. “We’re still a while from the state line.”

“Uh, yeah.” Eddie agrees. “Kind of an aggressive tourism slogan.”

But something else about it sits in Eddie’s stomach like cement. 

And then they keep coming.

Hello! Happy Saturday! Here's chapter 3 :)

If I'm a bit slower getting chapter up over the next little bit, I'm dealing with some pretty bad pain in my right arm and hand, making typing hard. So sorry in advance!

Summary:

Buck realizes Tommy may have had a point. Daniel and Eddie realize things aren't quite right.

Snippet:

“So, how’re you doing with everything?” Eddie eventually asks anyway. 

“With everything or with the Tommy thing?” Buck retorts.

“Well… That.”

“I’m okay,” Buck shrugs. “Nothing I haven’t handled before.”

Nothing he won’t have to handle again and again.

“I guess that is the bisexual experience,” Eddie says with faux gravity and planting a hand on Buck’s shoulder. “Getting dumped by every gender.”

“Hey!” Buck laughs, nudging him shoulder-to-shoulder. The action results in the hand Eddie has placed on Buck’s shoulder sliding deeper into his back, sending a ripple of warmth down Buck’s spine. Eddie doesn’t move it for a heartbeat too long.

“Do you ever feel like you’re living through other people?” He asks her, a couple of days after his conversation with Evan. They’re eating lunch at her place, just the two of them.

“What do you mean by that?” Maddie asks, sprinkling dressing on her salad. 

“Like, you only really exist for the people around you.” Daniel tries to explain. “And you aren’t really living your own life?”

Maddie frowns. “I think I felt like that a lot when I was married to Doug.”

Daniel nods. Right, that makes sense. Of course she would have felt something like that during that time. But… But maybe this is different?

“But you still had a life,” he tries to clarify. “Just one that that piece of shit was actively making miserable.”

Maddie narrows her eyes. “Okay, so what are we comparing that to, then? Someone who genuinely doesn’t have a life? A dead person?”

“Well, obviously not a dead person,” Daniel exhales. “I don’t feel like I’m dead.”

“Glad to hear it. So what do you mean?” 

Daniel exhales heavily. He doesn’t know how to explain without sounding absolutely insane. 

“Sometimes it feels like, outside you guys, and my job, I don’t really exist.”

Fic Update: change the prophecy

Happy one week until 9-1-1! Here's chapter two :)

Summary:

Eddie breaks up with Marisol. Tommy breaks up with Buck.

Snippet:

“I mean, it’s cool that Eddie and I still hang out, right?” Tommy asks. 

The question doesn’t seem sincere, like he’s really checking Buck’s comfort levels. It seems almost like a test. 

“W-well, why wouldn’t it be?” Buck asks. 

“Come on,” Tommy chuckles. “You know.”

Buck frowns. “What? No. I don’t. I told you I get why you and Eddie are friends, and that I know Eddie can have more than one friend, and-and I think it’s pretty obvious that I wasn’t frustrated about friendship , anyway.”

“Yeah, I know what you were frustrated about, Evan,” Tommy says, tone clipped.

Buck blinks. “Wait, are you a-accusing me of thinking you’re, like, what? Hitting on Eddie? Because, I never thought that!”

“That’s not at all what I’m saying,” Tommy sighs. 

Buck tries to parse it, but finds himself struggling. 

“A-are you suggesting that Eddie is into you ? Tommy, I-I think he’s straight.” 

Tommy nearly chokes on a sip of beer.

Fic Update: Things We're All Too Young to Know

Hi! Here's a new chapter of TWATYTK. Sorry not sorry for what's inside.

Summary:

Buck and Eddie move in together. Buck struggles when the probie he's training starts acting out again at work.

Snippet:

“Hey,” Eddie whispers at Buck conspiratorially when he sits down next to him with a plate of food. “Do you think the energy between Ravi and my sister is a little more than friendly?”

Buck snorts. 

“What?” Eddie balks. “Look at them!”

“Oh, I know,” Buck says. “Ravi basically has heart emojis for eyes right now.”

“So you see what I’m saying!”

“Uh, yeah, just like I’ve seen it every time he’s asked after her since he met her. Which, you may have noticed, is kinda often.”

Eddie’s mouth hangs open.

“Wow,” Buck mumbles. “You didn’t notice at all ?”

“No,” Buck shakes his head. “He just wants to.”

“Evan,” Eddie calls, beaming still.

Evan struggles to catch his breath, despite standing completely still and not having recently exerted himself at all. 

“H-hey.”

He forces his legs to carry him forward, across the parking lot, eliminating the final feet of distance between himself and Eddie. When he reaches him, he freezes, unsure of what to do next. 

“Took me a second to recognize you with the facial hair,” Eddie teases. 

A little self-consciously, Evan touches his face. The other guy had left him not quite clean shaved, but less bearded, and more just scruffy. Evan has kept up a beard of decent fullness, but no length, more or less since he lost his sister. 

“It looks good,” Eddie adds quickly.

Evan smiles. “Uh, thanks. Yeah, I… I, uh, don’t know how to act right now, honestly.”
