In jp midori ends the majority of his sentences in either よ (yo) or ね (ne) and you’re not supposed to overuse either of these for the reason that overusing よ makes you sound arrogant and overusing ね makes you sound like you’re talking all cutesy and he’s definitely doing these two things on purpose.
Also at the end of the chapter when he’s panicking over the threat of death he drops talking like that so yeah he’s doing it on purpose. just an interesting thought

The more you can acknowledge that Keiji is a character with flaws that make him objectively a creep in the first two chapters the more real the world will become.
#prev tags are so right#I'm sorry but the attitude that the new translation is ''better'' just because the ''cause you're cute'' line has been changed to make him#sound ''more like a goofy uncle'' just completely ignores the fact that he's meant to be seen as untrustworthy due to his condescending#attitude and secrecy. he was never a person that Sara would have no problem being around at the start. he's meant to be a fucking asshole#who only thinks about himself and his comments about Sara's ''cuteness'' are meant to reflect that. there's a reason he relies on the#same method of dodging questions until chapter 3 when he finally gets a grip on himself and risks his own safety to protect Sara#that's his character development. he /grows/ into a father figure. ignoring that for whatever reason just reflects poorly on yourself#based take tbh#rb
