We (Vice) had a little heavens nostalgia attack, checked our blog, and saw your message (I immediately told Vanguard about it. Yes, we still tolerate each other).

We aren’t planning to make any new HEAVENS content as we have moved on to other interests and don’t visit tumblr much. This blog will remain like a little time capsule of our time in the UtaPri fandom.

Hi guys 😊 Can you write your theory about "how heavens's members came to the their agency"? Please do much 🙏🏻

Of course! This topic is one that Vanguard and I have discussed, though briefly, when we took on the task of role playing all seven members. However, those theories were very specific to the roleplay we were writing at the time. So…here’s a more logical (hopefully) and broader answer to the question: The first member of HEAVENS was Eiichi himself. As Raging Otori’s eldest it was expected that he would follow in his father’s footsteps. Eiichi could have made it as a solo artist like his father, yet HEAVENS was formed. Why? Raging is not only a former singer, but the President of his own entertainment agency and clearly a savvy enough businessman to know what sells in the music industry. It seems that in the UtaPri universe boy bands are in trend (and it can be argued that also in real life as seen with the K-pop scene). More members, with varying personalities and looks, means more chances for potential fans to latch onto a favorite and consume their music and fan memorabilia. Another reason is that if Eiichi entered the music scene as a solo artist, he would never escape the large shadow of his father’s successes. There would always be comparisons by the media, but if he was in a group, he would be held to different standards and make his own path in the industry. Let’s not forget that HEAVENS was initially a three member band. The second member was likely Nagi Mikado, who may have already had some contact with or was scouted by Raging Entertainment. With his strong, confident personality and talent with the violin and viola, Nagi had good potential to become an idol, but despite his precocious talent, he was likely too young to be a solid solo act. Especially if he was marketed as a “cute idol.” In a band, Nagi could still be the “cute” member, but he would be able to develop outside that niche by working with others and therefore become more marketable for Raging Entertainment.

Now, a band consisting of Eiichi and Nagi would likely not get very far as these two members have a certain stubbornness and ego that would put them at odds when they need to collaborate. Not to mention that there is a clear age difference between the two that needed to be bridged to look like a cohesive group. This is where Kira Sumeragi enters the scene. After being disowned by his father to pursue a career in music, Kira may have arrived at Raging Entertainment by recommendation. (This part of Kira’s character that I wish there was more information about). With his arrival, the stoic, calm and alluring Kira with his motherly streak provided the balance between Eiichi’s ambition and Nagi’s intentionally immature cutesy personality. After the events of the second season of UtaPri, Raging Entertainment’s response to HEAVENS’ defeat in the music scene by STARISH is to expand the trio into a septet. This is a move by Raging Otori that shows the continued animosity and competition between himself and Shining Saotome, his industry rival. I can imagine that after HEAVENS’ failure to out-HAPPY PULSE the Shining boys, Raging got his phone book out and started making some calls. What better way to get back at your rival than by hiring the younger brother of one of their talent academy instructors? Plus, Yamato Hyuga also benefited as he has his own rivalry against his famous action hero brother. Yamato brought energy and dynamism to the growing group. Eiji Otori would have been next. Like his father and brother, Eiji had the talent but not the bold and competitive personality the other two shared. That may be the reason he was not considered to be part of HEAVENS 1.0. But, now with the drive to compete against Shining Entertainment, Eiji was brought in to help the family business. Eiji’s kind and peaceful nature would help maintain the unity in the band. Kiryuin Van may have already had connections with Raging Entertainment in other projects. Perhaps, Eiichi knew of him since they are closer in age, and if he could sing like he could act, then he was added without question. His suave yet silly and anything-but-serious personality would help charm more fans away from the competition and add a more mature feel to the group. Last but not least was Shion Amakusa. In canon, he is the last member to join HEAVENS and this fact is a source of insecurity for him as shown in the Visible Elf episode. I do not think that Shion had any previous experience with agencies or working with other groups or in other projects, which is why he attaches himself to HEAVENS so strongly and thinks it disloyal to sing with anyone else. Shion may have scouted and impressed Raging Entertainment with raw singing talent and his mysterious and ethereal look that he was chosen as seventh and last member of the group above other people that may have auditioned. Again, these are just our theories of how each of the boys came to join HEAVENS. If official material comes out with their backstories, I would love to see if I hit the mark on some and gasp at any unexpected details.  -Vice

Eiji is what - about seven or so years younger than Eiichi? And we don’t know much about their home life, aside from what we know of Raging. Information on their mother is MIA. just like her lol though I mean UtaPri doesn’t care about moms that much do they? Ren, Otoya, the Otoris…

From a young age, Eiichi was probably very protective and caring of his little brother, likely also protecting him from the brunt of Raging’s harsh criticisms and questionable parenting methods. If he did raise them as a single parent, I imagine and please don’t take this as me excusing his behavior that it was quite difficult to be a “good” parent, run his business, and maintain his reputation somewhat in the spotlight. Whatever slack Raging let loose, Eiichi probably picked it up for Eiji’s sake. Cooking meals, helping with homework, and making sure he got to school on time and went to bed at a reasonable hour. Raging isn’t your typical father figure none of them in UtaPri are, really lololol so Eiichi’s care for his group probably stems from the way he’s had to care for Eiji sort of like a father would?

So, yes, that behavior absolutely continues into his adult life. He loves kids. He loves making them laugh and cheering them up and playing their make-believe games. Though…I imagine him apprehensive about having his own kids, solely because he doesn’t want to turn out like his own father. But his S/O would take great care in reassuring him that he’s a wonderful father, and those kids would be the most loved and cherished and spoiled beings on the planet.

It’s wonderful seeing a blog full of love for HEAVENS; even with some particular quirks, in the end of the day they’re all good boys who deserve all the love the Angels send their way!

They are all good boys, you are right about that! If they didn’t have their quirks, they wouldn’t be very much fun, would they?

Characters need flaws and aspects to set them apart from the others, to give us something to relate to or analyze. Otherwise they’re 2D cardboard cutouts and not quite as fun as they would be if they were 3D ;)
