Everyone’s been desperately trying to play it cool. 

“Barnes,” Sam sighs, pinching his nose-bridge as he usually does, even if it’s a bit shaky now, “You can’t just demand a nuclear weapon from the United States government.”

“I asked,” a stilted response as Bucky grits his teeth loud enough for everyone to hear, “They said no.”

Steve hums, “How did– well, at least you used your good manners.”

Friday pings sharply and Tony pulls up the incoming call as quickly as he can.  Finally, Jesus Christ, it had only been twenty minutes since they hailed that signal and saw a video of you tied to a chair, knocked unconscious. Twenty minutes was more than enough for Bucky to completely lose his mind. You’d been gone for a couple of days without contact, after all. 

They just figured you were off gallivanting again.

“Hey f-” a wet cough and the screen catches a bit of blood, “HEY GUYS!” It seems like you’ve hand-stitched a cut on your brow closed. Your shoulder looks a bit out of place, but otherwise, you’re alive. You’re alive– and you look crazy as hell. “Hey, look, I made some friends.”

You turn the phone to face two operatives, hanging from the ceiling of the warehouse, “I got their names, their social security numbers, and this one’s favorite color is lime green. Hey…” A spool of fishing wire in your hand is tossed into the air and your teeth clamp down onto a scapel’s handle, “You think they’ve ever seen Human Centipede before? Or have any desire to re-enact it?”

Immediately, Sam, Steve, and Tony scramble to derail your intentions. Laws, this, morality, that. 

Bucky inhales a steady, deep breath and it feels like the first one he’s taken in almost two days. A slow smile stretches across his face.

“Atta girl.”

This is the moment we met. He was trying so hard to stay seated even though he desperately wanted to get out. I knew right away that he was coming home with me, so I took this video to always remember our first hello.
