Week 27: road-trip, Trondheim, Nesna

Celia the salty sea captain! She allllllmost caught a fish, but otherwise enjoyed her time on the boat immensely. She did not love to see kjirsten’s dish die, however. She was helpful with the translating and [mostly] patient with the 5th cousins she met (the boy in blue there shares her exact birthday! A true cuztwin!).. he tried to be tough with her but she tackled him right back and outran him in a race, I’ve been told. She didn’t get carsick at all! Woohoo! She did have to miss out on the homemade fish soup (😭) but allergies be allergies.

4. July 2025

Today I took celia (and the other two) to Vigelandsparken. We wanted to enjoy the good weather, explore an old fave, and get the girls’ minds on something besides their grandparents’ arrival! Celia asked approximately one million questions on the way to the park... the really annoying kind of questions that she already knows the answer to or doesn’t need to be asking in the first place ! Gah ! when we put down the picnic blanket and pulled out the pb sandwiches, pickles, and cookies, she was quite pleased :) but she wanted to immediately go over to the playground and I had to tell her that we were going to spend some time hanging out in the sun on the blanket. She did not appreciate that. But she really liked playing at the playground when it was time! Anyway, I think she had a nice day. And she was SO excited to see her yellow grandma and grey grandpa tonight! It made for a late night but I know she’s glad she got to stay up

Celia bought herself some new adidas shoes today at the Oslo Fashion Outlet! She also went to Viktor’s birthday party. And got herself home from it! Big girl day :):):)

While I was sitting outside reading today, three kids come walking onto our “driveway” asking about kids living here. I asked “do you mean Celia?” They were like “yes!!” Then I said “she’s already out playing, she’s at johan’s house” They seemed to recognize the name of the kid and then headed out to find her. So happy she’s got friends in the neighborhood :)

Oh also - she’s told me that multiple friends’ moms have asked if she wants to stay for dinner. This doesn’t happen in Norway!! Celia is surely something

Celia brought home yet another new friend from the neighborhood today! She’s called Agate and she’s going into grade 6. They (Celia and Agate plus Kjirsten) took their scooters and hung out around the neighborhood for hours today. Yay!

Super fun day today :)

We started to watch Miss Congeniality, but the guy fixing the stairs started up the sander/vacuum thing (super loud) so we decided to start our outing a bit early. We took the train to Green Kids, did some looking around, found some amazing deals. Celia was being a bit whiny about her legs hurting. Then we went to Bake Me Up for a lil treat. She impressed an old lady on the platform with how nice she was being to her sister. We then went to Storo looking for shoes / rain boots. Celia kept complaining about her legs. We got some pizza at digg, which we ate outside the nydalen tbane stasjon. She felt a bit better after that. We took the train to Ullevål stadion, where we got to see them setting up for the days festivities (football match tonight). We went home, Celia went out riding, then fell off her bike / dropped it in a way that broke one part of the brakes (🤦🏻‍♀️), and came home very upset. Eventually, I took the bigs back down to the stadium where they participated in the activities: face painting, football kicking, etc. Celia even spun a wheel and got the big prize - a jersey from the new line out for the Euros! So cool! Twas a long but fun day :) oh and at one point today I got a text from Isabelle’s mom asking to set up a playdate with Celia! So a really good day for her 🤌

Celia and I worked in the yard today :) it was a really nice day for it! And she was very helpful. We have some very beautiful plants that we’ve inherited! She helped me identify brenneslett (stinging nettle) and even still it got me three times in there different places (🤦🏻‍♀️) oh well!

Celia had her last day of school today! Her teacher wrote her a super nice note, her buddies wanted to play extra with her after school was done at 12 (so she didn’t end up home until 16! Too many friends to visit and play with, this child)

Her eyes have been bothering her this week.. it’s been a high pollen count here so a few of my students with allergies have been struggling. Wondering if she acquired a new allergy?!

13. - 15. June 2025 Possibly the final time with Teddy!! Celia couldn’t really be bothered to do much with the bear this weekend, but we worked together to make it seem like an exciting time in the notebook. And she did a good job taking her time with the writing. She still struggles to capitalize, her spelling is not great, and she still reverses letters sometimes!! Hoping that she’ll grow out of these things with more practice. She finished 3rd grade this week!!

11. June 2025

Sommeravslutning for Celia this evening! The bigs took themselves back to school for it. I had to meet them there because there was So Much Traffic today. The kids of 3rd grade performed one song together (You Can Count on Me, in English!), then the classes were dismissed to do their separate things. Except Celia’s class, who kept the performances going there with FernandaVision (their spin on Eurovision). There were some …interesting… performances first, then the girl group ROCKED IT! They did “lighter” - with really awesome singing and choreography - and Celia was front and center for a good portion of it! And the only one who stayed on beat! She was smiling so big, I think she really enjoyed it :):):)

Speaking of running with the wolves, this child literally be running the streets every day after school. It’s no “it’s 10pm, do you know where your children are” situation, but she is just all over our neighborhood. Rocking up to various friends houses (but not going inside - that’s my boundary), meeting neighborhood animals, sitting on fences, finding shortcuts, etc. I’m glad for her, that she can do that safely here like I could back in the day in my neighborhood ❤️

I saw that it was raining this afternoon while the rest of us were sitting inside, in the living room. Wondered aloud “the rain will probably make Celia come home, right? She didn’t take a rain jacket” and cam looked at me like SERIOUSLY!? 😂

She’s got this terrible red crack-y sore all around her mouth for the last few weeks. It healed for a few days when I stayed right on top of her with exfoliating and cream (plus not licking it), but when I laid off it came right back with a vengeance. It looks AWFUL and I’m sure it feels bad, too. Hopefully she can kick it before end of school (sooooooonnnnn!!!!)

Play date today with our old neighbor. The papa actually reached out to see about Celia coming over to play with Selje (near name twins!)… and Celia was super excited for it! They even fed her dinner! This is a huge deal - Norwegians are famous for kicking people out of their houses when it comes time to eat. But Celia is just part of the family wherever she goes :)
