Preparing for the Future with Application Modernization
A legacy application, according to Gartner, is an information system that is vital to daily operations but is built on old technologies. While age is a role, legacy systems aren't often defined solely by their age. Other factors that can lead to a system's classification include a lack of vendor support, incompatibility with other systems or processes, or an inability to meet the organization's business requirements. Legacy applications are sometimes described by the amount of time or resources they use. You could, for example, be wasting time managing the application's underlying infrastructure when you could be focusing on more strategic activities. Legacy systems, in any event, are a serious impediment to digital transition. By simplifying and standardizing their app portfolio, as well as speeding up development efforts and automating QA processes and deployment pipelines, enterprises may create new business value by modernizing legacy applications. We'll go over all you need to know about bringing your legacy applications into the future in this article.
Legacy Application Modernization: Best Practices to Know
The process of updating and/or replacing outmoded or ineffective systems, applications, or processes, either partially or completely, is referred to as legacy application modernization. It's worth noting that legacy app modernization isn't always constrained by a particular strategy or process. Instead, it's about assessing your entire digital environment and then determining the best strategy for addressing individual issues. We've highlighted some best practices below to help you figure out where to focus your modernization efforts for maximum impact.   Define Your Business Case
Whether responding to changes brought on by COVID, digitizing processes, or harnessing the potential of big data, firms can gain a competitive advantage by modernizing legacy systems.
Among the possible objectives are:
Improve the customer experience
Learn more about your target audience's needs, behaviors, and pain areas.
Observe regulatory and data privacy obligations
Profit from new business prospects.
Reduce costs
Expand your capacity
Boost security
Process automation
Improve scalability
Enhance your performance
Faster delivery of updates, features, or items to market
Collect information from employees, consumers, and partners. Interviewing these groups, sending out a poll, or extracting conversational insights from sales or support teams can help you figure out what's working, what's not, and what end-users want to see in future releases.
Examine how legacy systems interact with customers and partners. To obtain a feel of how people are interacting with the application, use tools like heatmaps, click maps, and screenshots. The goal is to find friction spots and difficulties that consumers may not be able to articulate but that nevertheless degrade the experience.
Investigate official feedback channels. Examine your support tickets and feature requests. Do you hear any specific complaints? Are there any common themes that keep coming up? Check where the feedback is coming from as well. A complaint from one of your power users is not the same as someone who isn't a good fit for your service. Regardless of the matter who reported the problem, bugs, mistakes, and usability issues should be addressed immediately.
What percentage of the present IT stack is used by staff and end-users? Is there any component of the system that your staff relies on daily? How about your clients? Naturally, any features or apps that are most important to your target consumer should be prioritized. If your goal is to make secondary/tertiary features part of the "A-team," updating them should be a top priority. Otherwise, prioritize the most vital items before updating the lower-priority items.
Keep. There are no modifications required. Again, make sure you've thoroughly analyzed the application/system to be sure this is the case. Even if everything appears to be in order, make sure there aren't any concerns like regulatory non-compliance, insecure endpoints, or terminated vendor support that could cause major problems later, Keeping the current solution in place, according to Javier Trevino, will ALWAYS necessitate some form of code upgrade based on your code audit findings. Code audits, in general, uncover defects, indications of technological debt, and security concerns that must be addressed immediately, as well as possibilities to simplify or automate difficult procedures.
Quick fix. To boost business/technical value, make changes to existing software, architecture, UI, and so on.
Replace. Replace or rewrite an existing solution with a new application that adds greater value to the enterprise, employing more efficient frameworks or languages that can be deployed quickly in modern cloud environments.
Retire. Gradual conversion/consolidation of policies/applications
Move to the cloud. Data is often stored on a central server, which necessitates physical hardware that is both costly and complex to maintain.
Migrate to a new architecture. Migration of existing features to new architectures and patterns that facilitate faster development iterations is another option.
Make Microservices out of the Monolith. Microservices applications run as independent "services," as opposed to monolithic traditional programs, which are often written as one big piece of code. Migrating from monolith to microservices allows teams to build and deliver new features and updates more quickly gives you greater technological stack flexibility and decreases the risks associated with code changes.
Include important stakeholders in the process and obtain executive buy-in and commitment to supporting transformation efforts across the board.
Examine the Status of Your Legacy Applications
Again, legacy software does not always imply that systems are old or obsolete by conventional measures. Issues frequently develop as a result of a lack of control or awareness of the system's many components. People come and go, corporate goals alter over time and between projects, and some aspects of a system ultimately get outdated or forgotten. If you're not careful, the adage "if it isn’t broken, don't fix it" can rear its head when you least expect it. A third-party library upgrade, deprecation, or a vendor abruptly discontinuing support could catch you off guard. We recommend inspecting critical business apps to find present faults or areas that may cause prospective issues shortly to avoid any surprises. Develop a systematic process for reviewing your technology from all perspectives, such as architecture, infrastructure, databases, code, and usability.

Key Benefits of Microsoft Power Automate for your business
Automation of your company processes is a matter of when not if. Businesses that do not automate their workflow swiftly will eventually find themselves behind the curve. Automating your procedures will boost operational efficiency, lower expenses, and increase business results. Microsoft's Power Automate (formerly known as Microsoft Flow) can assist your firm to simplify its procedures if you're looking for new technology. Here's all you need to know about this software and how it can help your company.
What is a Power Automate?
Power Automate is a cloud-based solution that lets you automate your workflows and business operations. It's part of the Microsoft Power Platform. It allows customized operations to take place with little to no user input thanks to robotic process automation.
It was named a leader in the Robotic Process Automation category by Gartner and Forrester in 2021. Power Automate allows you to automate paperless operations and repetitive tasks without needing to know how to code. It imports data from Office 365 and Dynamics 365, among other Microsoft products. Flows can be triggered automatically based on specified metrics or events. As a result, your staff will have more time on their hands to focus on more important company responsibilities.
Here are a few instances of what Power Auto can accomplish for you:
 Automate business processes
Send automatic reminders for past tasks
Schedule the transfer of business data between systems.
Connect to 300 data sources
Automate tasks on your local computer
Notifications, emails, and alerts about high-priority events are sent out regularly.
Data delivery that is accurate and timely.
Prospective and existing clients are being tracked and followed up on.
Document saving, organization, and sharing are all automated.
Automatic social media participation.
Task approval and assignment are done automatically.
What Are Microsoft Power Automates Advantages?
#1: Streamline Daily Business Tasks This one has already been mentioned, but let us put it in context. We've all been in situations when we've seen a high-priority business occurrence and realized it's too late to react. Power Automate will allow you to assign priority to business events in addition to automating monotonous daily tasks. When a high-priority event occurs, you'll be notified. With Power Automate, you can rest assured that you will never again miss an essential email. How about prioritizing all of your day-to-day business tasks?

Any company considering digital transformation cannot afford to put data on the back burner. When you don't have the necessary tools, data collection and analysis aren't easy. Businesses that use Power Automate won't have to worry about these problems. Data from your business operations will be collected by Power Automate and sent back to you and your team. You can rely on accurate, timely, and well-presented data and information to make all of your business choices.
#3: Reduce Costly Human Errors You probably know that Power Automate's key benefit is the ability to automate monotonous processes. When tasks become repetitive or are carried out across numerous applications, the likelihood of making mistakes increases. Automation of repetitive procedures ensures that your business processes are error-free. A sense of direction and organization is also provided by automation. While performing their duties, your staff will feel more assured and relieved. As a result, employees are happier and more committed.
#4: Seamless Integrations If your company already uses Microsoft products like OneDrive, Dynamics 365, Office 365, SharePoint, and others, Power Automate is a breeze to set up. Power Automate can integrate with over 250 applications both inside and outside the Microsoft ecosystem. One advantage is the simplicity with which data may be transferred to and from your applications. You may quickly automate tasks by creating automated workflows between many applications.
#5: Mobile Access Are you worried every time you leave your office because you have no idea what's going on? The Power Automate app will take care of everything for you. It helps you to keep track of your business activities from the comfort of your own home or on the go. A workflow may be created, run, and monitored by team members from any location. All organizations must be on their toes in today's digital business climate, ready to deal with growing difficulties. Power Automate keeps you and your company as prepared as possible.
#6: Easy to Set Up With Power Automates, a low-code platform, which includes drag-and-drop tools and hundreds of pre-built connectors, anyone can create automated processes. This means that everyone in your company, from a simple business user to an IT professional, may automate procedures.

How to Build a Roadmap to App Modernization
Companies now have sophisticated capabilities that non-digital platforms and traditional systems simply cannot match. A range of operational needs and technology trends are driving this IT modernization, resulting in a spike in interest in new digital platforms. Many businesses are integrating application modernization services to comply with changing regulatory requirements, exploit competitive positioning, and capitalize on new business models as a result of industry consolidation. While some businesses use modernization to enhance operational efficiency and save on IT expenses (e.g. mainframe MIPS), others focus on enhancing application performance, reliability, and scalability to better satisfy the demands and preferences of their consumers. It's no surprise that, with the addition of COVID-19, corporate executives are focusing on developing an application modernization roadmap.
Platforms and legacy systems that are not optimized, especially those that are hosted onsite, can have a significant impact on business continuity and reliability. There are three reasons for updating these antiquated systems:
They frequently act as a roadblock to company growth and collaboration.
Most legacy systems and fragmented digital platforms are rigid and unable to adapt quickly to changing business requirements.
When historical systems are involved, creating a completely integrated environment is difficult, owing to compatibility difficulties.
Market and economic trends
Trends in customer demographics
Traditional IT applications are under more strain.
Work-from-home mandates and their consequences
Which of your legacy systems is the most outdated?
Which old applications are causing staff productivity and performance to suffer?
What influence do obsolete systems and apps have on the customer experience?
Agility
Scalability
Controlling costs
Features for personalization
IT and data protection.
Companies that are still paper-based have an even greater need for digital transformation. At every level, moving to a digital environment can help boost productivity, automate time-consuming chores, and expedite creativity. Enterprises can future-proof their IT initiatives and cut expenses across the board by implementing speedier, intuitive, and user-friendly applications.
For businesses across industries, modernizing applications has become a strategic imperative for boosting IT resilience and agility. Companies must first construct a clear application modernization strategy before they can make efforts to modernize their IT systems.
When is application modernization needed? Application modernization entails rewiring the infrastructure, design, and fundamental functionality of legacy applications and outmoded digital platforms. Enterprises may decrease operational costs, boost business agility, maintain compliance and security, and improve performance by modernizing legacy programs. The following are two characteristics of legacy systems that make modernization desirable:
It's difficult to keep them up to date and integrate them with cutting-edge technology.
It's difficult and expensive to scale them up.
To make their IT systems more flexible and cost-effective, many firms are focused on installing cloud-based apps and infrastructure. According to Gartner, the shift to cloud computing will affect more than $1.3 trillion in IT investment by 2022. In reality, any implementation that improves a company's digital operations can be classified as "modernization." However, how can company executives determine when it is appropriate to engage in application modernization services? Adoption of new digital platforms and modernization initiatives is typically driven by four factors:
Creating a comprehensive application modernization strategy is the best method to prepare for a large-scale IT shift. These plans should consider an organization's current IT situation and define each stage of the modernization process. These designs should also include explicit deployment targets and milestones for determining the project's long-term success.   Creating a plan for application modernization
Breaking down monolithic apps into a collection of small, loosely linked microservices is one of the most prevalent modernization tactics. This architecture enables organizations to deliver complex applications quickly and reliably while also allowing them to modify their technology stack. However, no two application modernization roadmaps will be identical because each organization has its own needs and budgetary limits. You may assist in fleshing out the modernization process in more depth by applying design thinking techniques, ensuring new projects serve a distinct purpose and have clearly defined goals. A basic application modernization path is summarized below:
Stage 1: Setting the vision and analyzing the situation "as is"
Take a complete inventory of all the hardware, software, and business apps currently in use before rolling out new digital platforms and applications. The next step is to evaluate your applications to see how easy it will be to convert your IT portfolio to the target architecture. At this stage, holding collaborative workshops is critical, as key stakeholders from many departments must collaborate to determine the modernization project's goals and tactics. Businesses should prioritize modifications that will bring significant value to their operations after generating a list of modernization-ready applications. Questions to consider include:
Stage 2: Modelling of target operations and prioritization Following the completion of the initial assessment, the next stage is to prioritize the applications and business processes that need to be upgraded. You should balance current business needs with considerations for the future of your company at this time. This will enable a more focused implementation strategy that includes governance and transition advice, process uniformity, and a lower total cost of ownership. A prioritizing framework can also assist you in developing a modernization timeline and beginning to map out the project from beginning to conclusion. Stage 3: Look for available IT solutions on the market. After you've completed the application evaluation and prioritizing steps, you'll need to scour the market for cutting-edge technologies that can improve your computing environment. Enterprises must concentrate on achieving a golden ratio in which technology and business objectives are completely aligned. However, due to the oversaturation of the digital operations industry, finding solutions that satisfy current and future needs can be difficult. The company should concentrate on the following when studying new technologies:
Microservices, DevOps, cloud transformation, low-code application platforms, containerization, and customizable APIs are examples of recent methodologies that enable application modernization. Application modernization relies heavily on microservice design and containerization. Microservice architecture protocols are lightweight, allowing businesses to quickly develop and manage new applications, increase development efficiency, and improve the resilience of mission-critical processes. Containerization is a type of operating system virtualization in which applications are executed in separate user environments using a shared operating system. This ensures that critical business applications run consistently regardless of the underlying infrastructure. Keep in mind that to establish a long-term roadmap for digital transformation, you'll need to find both operational and technology-driven solutions.
Stage 4: Implementation and ongoing supervision Developing a custom application modernization roadmap needs careful planning, proactive change management, and participation from a variety of stakeholders. Study the current architecture, determine migration goals and strategy, and make efforts to minimize downtime and other disruptions to set your firm up for success. You should organize regular workshops to track progress and get input from end-users during the deployment phase. How can Cambay Consulting help you?

Microsoft Dynamics CRM: The Good and The Bad
Microsoft Dynamics CRM is a product line of intelligent business applications with its own set of advantages and disadvantages. Here are a few things to think about when it comes to onboarding your team.
The Good
Up-to-date analytics: Microsoft Dynamics gives you the ability to collect data that keeps your salespeople informed and up to date. By identifying and prioritizing key opportunities, team members can make better decisions.
Centralize customer information: By reducing search and follow-up time, a centralized customer information system can help your employees save time.
Execute multi-channel campaigns: By determining the types of messages you should send your customers via their preferred channels; Microsoft Dynamics CRM marketing capabilities help you increase your marketing ROI. You can also use sales and marketing analytics to identify leads, nurture them, and eventually convert them into paying customers.
Easily share sales performance: By sharing ongoing sales and key performance metrics with your team, you can keep them informed at all times. As a result, they are better able to engage with the right buyers and expand their sales relationships.
AI informed sales process: You'll be better equipped to make better business decisions once you've learned about AI. The selling and buying process is made easier with the help of an AI-enabled team.
Improved customer experiences: Microsoft Dynamics enhances your customer experience by leveraging data and intelligence to deliver customer service that exceeds expectations, earns trust, and keeps customers engaged.
Adaptable to your legacy system: Not only is the Microsoft Dynamics CRM solution suite adaptable to your existing system, but it also allows you to customize your security levels to meet your specific requirements. And, of course, this is scalable as your company grows.
Deployment options: You have the option of using an on-premise solution or using the cloud to manage all of the moving parts of your CRM solution.
The Bad
Onboarding: Because of the complexity and expanded capabilities of a CRM solution like Microsoft Dynamics, onboarding your teams across the organization can take a little longer.
Cost: This type of robust CRM solution, with its long list of tools and features, isn't cheap. Starting prices for solutions can start in the four-digit range, depending on what you're looking for.

Protect Against Ransomware
Increase Your Malware Protection
Protect Your Documents with Rights Management
Use Message Encryption Features
Multi-factor authentication (MFA, also known as 2-step verification, 2FA, or 2-factor authentication) is a simple way to add quick security for all users and can help prevent most hacks and unauthorized breaches. For Microsoft Office 365 security, a multi-factor authentication app is installed on each user's phone, which generates a code when they attempt to sign in on their computer. To log in, they'll have to approve the sign-in request on their phone, preventing hackers from sneaking in unnoticed. Businesses can do so by requiring MFA in a setting, and users will be prompted to complete the setup the next time they sign in.
Ransomware prevents users from accessing their files or screens, then demands payment before releasing the data. Ransomware is spread through malicious and often suspicious email attachments. It can be avoided simply by educating users to recognize these attempts and not opening certain file extensions that are commonly associated with ransomware – especially from unknown or unfamiliar senders. You can take it a step further with email security solutions by creating rules that prevent these attachments from being delivered at all.
More than just ransomware is prevented by blocking certain file extensions. In your Microsoft 365 administration dashboard, you can also activate an anti-malware policy to beef up your Microsoft Office 365 security. You can select which file extensions are allowed to pass through and which are blocked from doing so. If your company does not share software via email, blocking.exe,.bin, and other application file types is a simple way to ensure that they do not reach your employees, managers, and other team members. Malware, on the other hand, can be found in Word documents (.docx), PDF files, and other more common file extensions that your company is likely to use regularly. Although the built-in security features in Microsoft Office 365 are designed to detect suspicious email attachments, education is still a critical component in ensuring that your company's data isn't compromised.
Increasing security to prevent unauthorized access protects your users from potentially harmful incoming files, but you must also protect the files that your company sends out into the world, saves to a user's cloud storage, or copy to other locations. By using Rights Management to protect your Microsoft Office 365 backup and security, you can ensure that your organization's files are protected even when they leave your systems and enter the outside world. Beyond Microsoft Office 365 files, Rights Management can protect a variety of supported file types, allowing you to protect a wide range of data regardless of where it ends up. An email attachment intended only for authorized recipients is a good example.
If you use Outlook or Outlook.com, you already have some encryption features built-in for sending a sensitive email. With a layer of encryption, these features can prevent emails from being shared or forwarded to individuals outside of your organization. You can set up specific domains for clients, vendors, and others so that they can see the emails you send them, and you can also disable domains for organizations that shouldn't have access. If you have Office Message Encryption turned on, you'll need to sign in to view encrypted messages, and you'll need to enter a passcode if you want to send an encrypted email to a personal email account like Gmail or Yahoo.

How can we configure the Microsoft Dynamics 365 sales process?
Any business, big or small, relies entirely on sales figures to succeed. And no matter how great the product is or how much is spent on marketing, the primary goal for any organization is to increase revenue. From the acquisition of a new lead to the closing of a sale, Microsoft Dynamics CRM is designed to support the sales process. It allows you to close more deals and increase revenue by relying on a set of steps and actions.
Microsoft Dynamics CRM Sales Process Life Cycle
The life cycle of the Dynamics CRM sales process streamlines the process of generating potential sales opportunities for your company. Because Dynamics CRM stores all of a new lead's information, it aids in a tracking follow-up communication, such as phone calls, emails, and appointments, as well as qualifying leads into accounts and opportunities. The Dynamics CRM sales process has the following life cycle:
1-Lead Capture: A lead is a person or company with whom your company has the potential to do business. Online or offline advertising, trade shows, direct communication, and other marketing campaigns are commonly used to generate leads. In Dynamics CRM, to create an entry in the system, you need to enter the name of the lead under the "lead entity" tab and mention information about the lead under the "topic" tab. Once a lead has been captured, it is necessary to conduct follow-up activities such as emails, phone calls, and appointments to obtain additional information about the lead and progress to the next stage of lead qualification.
2-Account Creation Accountants are people or companies with whom your company has a business relationship. This is where all account information in Dynamics CRM is stored in the database. Prospects, vendors, business partners, and others are all examples of accounts.
3-Contact Setup Contacts are individuals with whom your organization has a relationship; these are typically customers or contacts of customers. Although most contacts are associated with an account, some organizations and businesses may also serve or sell to individual consumers. Because contacts in Dynamics CRM and Microsoft Outlook are linked, any contact you create or change in the contact record fields in CRM will automatically reflect in Outlook, depending on the synchronization settings.
4-Opportunity Management
In Dynamics CRM, opportunities represent potential sales for a specific customer; once created, an opportunity is added to the sales pipeline. When a customer agrees with the quotation, the opportunity is said to be won. However, when a customer disagrees, the opportunity is said to be lost, and the sales life cycle ends. By tracking sales back to the original lead source and source campaign, you can measure the success of your marketing efforts. When an opportunity is missed, the reasons for the missed opportunity can be traced.
5-Product Catalog
Dynamics CRM enables you to maintain a product catalog with multiple customizable prices and discount lists for all of the business's needs. You can use Dynamics CRM to create quotes, invoices, and orders that include a variety of features such as territory-based pricing, discount lists, product or price bundles, and more. You can also include a list of product relationships to make product substitutions easier, as well as cross-sell and up-sell opportunities and write-in discounts.
6-Quote Management A quote is a list of products or services that the customer is interested in, along with a price list and discounts. After reviewing the order, the customer can decide whether or not to proceed with the order. You can create quotes in Dynamics CRM in two ways: from an opportunity with system-calculated pricing, or as a new quote. Multiple quotes can be generated from a single opportunity to include special pricing offers.
7-Order Management An order is a confirmation of a sale that will be invoiced and sent to logistics for further processing. They document what specific products or services the customer is buying because they are accepted quotes. Orders can be created in Dynamics CRM by selecting the "Create order" button on an active quote.
8-Invoice Management Invoices are the last stage of the sales process. An invoice is generated in the Dynamics CRM system after an order is successfully placed. You can either create an invoice directly from a specific order screen or go to the invoice section and create a new invoice from there. For each opportunity or order, you can create multiple invoices.
9-Sales Business Process To capture sales data and close a sale, every company follows a specific business process. The Dynamics CRM business process flow makes it easy for users to follow the guided process. You can use an out-of-the-box business process flow or create your own based on the life cycle of your sales process.

Go Serverless with Java and Azure Functions
Digital transformation has made waves in many industries, with revolutionary models such as Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Software as a Service (SaaS) making digital tools much more accessible and flexible, allowing you to rent the services you require rather than make large investments in owning them. Functions as a Service (FaaS) follows the same logic; if we think of digital infrastructure as storage boxes, this is a framework that allows us to rent storage as needed. Organizations can go serverless with one of many cloud service providers, such as Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Google Cloud, rather than owning and managing everything through a private cloud. This enables us to develop and launch applications without the need to build and maintain our infrastructure, which can be expensive and time-consuming.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) pioneered serverless computing in 2014, with competitors such as Google and Microsoft quickly catching up (Thomas Koenig from Netcentric hosted a talk on AWS serverless functions). Since then, technology has advanced rapidly, with industry leaders constantly pushing for innovation in functionality. Many of our enterprise clients use Azure today, and Azure Functions has developed functionality to compete with top competitors like AWS Lambda. So, as an example of how serverless computing can benefit your business with efficient and cost-effective solutions, consider Azure Functions.
An introduction to Azure Functions
Azure Functions is a serverless computing platform that uses events to accelerate app development by providing a more streamlined way to deploy code and logic in the cloud. The following are the primary components of an Azure function:
1. Events (Triggers)
An event must occur for a function to be executed; Azure refers to these as triggers. There are numerous types, with HTTP and webhooks being the most common, where functions are invoked with HTTP requests and respond to webhooks. There is also blob storage triggers that fire when a file is added to a storage container and timer triggers that can be set to fire at specific times.
2. Data (Bindings)
Then there's data, which is pulled in before and pushed out after a function is executed. These are known as bindings in Azure, and each function can have multiple bindings. By avoiding data connectors, bindings help to reduce boilerplate code and improve development efficiency.
3. Coding and Configuration
Finally, the functions have code and configuration. C#, Node.js, Python, F#, Java, and PowerShell are all supported by Azure. For more complex, nuanced cases, you can also use your custom runtime.
Configuring Azure Functions for your team
Keep in mind that functions running in the cloud are inactive until they are initialized. This is referred to as a "cold start." Microsoft provides several hosting plans to help mitigate this potential issue:
Consumption Plan: This is the default serverless plan and is essentially a pay-as-you-go plan. When your functions are running, you are only charged for the resources used.
Premium Plan: The Premium Plan includes the same demand-based auto-scaling as the Consumption Plan, but with the added benefit of using pre-warmed or standby instances. This means that functions are already initialized and ready to be triggered, reducing the cold start issue for organizations that require real-time responses.
App Service Plan: With this plan, virtual machines are always running, eliminating the need for cold starts. This is ideal for long-running operations or when more accurate scaling and costing are required.
How to Effectively Use Functions
To begin with, there are a few general guidelines to follow when writing functions:
Functions should only perform one task.
Idempotent functions are those that can be scaled in parallel.
Functions should be completed as soon as possible (Note: Azure's Consumption Plan restricts function runtime to 10 minutes).
Durable Functions are available in Azure when your setups become more complex than small functions performing single tasks. You can also chain functions, fan-in, and fan-out to spread the execution of your functions, and set up other patterns with these.
Example: Using Azure Functions to import product data in bulk
In a recent search project, we needed to import product data from the Product Information Management (PIM) system to the Elasticsearch search engine. We used Azure Functions with the Consumption plan to pay only for the execution time during the import because the batch import would run daily. The cold start issue would not be a problem because we did not require quick initial responses during the batch import.
The PIM begins the process every day by exporting, compressing, and uploading product data to Azure Blob Storage.
When the product data zips are uploaded, the Unzip Function is bound to the product-import container in Azure Blob Storage and is triggered. The Unzip function extracts each zip into a 1GB JSON file and uploads it to a new Blob Storage container.
When product data in JSON format is uploaded, the Import Function is bound to the product-process container and is triggered. It parses product JSONs, runs the business logic flow, and then sends product data to Elasticsearch for indexing.
This is one example of how we can use Azure Functions to create a powerful, streamlined solution. It is simple to set up, saves time and effort, and costs only a few euros per month to run on the consumption plan.
Azure Functions is open source and constantly evolving, making it simple to stay up to date on the latest features and exchange best practices and examples with the developer community. Many of our enterprise clients already use Microsoft Azure as a Cloud Service Provider, making Azure's serverless capabilities, fast business logic implementation, and pay-as-you-go pricing a no-brainer to integrate into their tech stack. We can collaborate with these teams to implement new solutions in the cloud faster with FaaS, and the transparent and pay-as-you-go pricing models are the icing on the cake. The Azure Function is a powerful tool with many configuration options for organizations with varying needs; it is best to work with an experienced team to tailor the right solution for you.

Application Modernisation Using Cloud-Native Approach
Executive Summary
When it comes to shifting to the cloud, most firms want agility, cost reduction, and a faster time to market. To shift their workloads to the cloud, the majority of them choose the simplest 'Lift and Shift' methodology. They eventually realized that the cloud had much more to offer than traditional infrastructure-as-a-service and that embracing cloud-native methods and architectures may help them create more value and innovation.
Continuing to use old-school apps and architectures would not only limit their capacity to innovate, optimize, and be agile, but it would also jeopardize their primary goal of going to the cloud.
The ability to take a concept into production fast and efficiently is the future of application development, with huge potential for corporate impact.
Companies should embrace a new "cloud-native" approach, which includes rearranging people, processes, and workflows, as well as developing apps expressly for the cloud. This necessitates the adoption of a cloud-native application development strategy that complements the broader cloud strategy.
Business demands currently necessitate a faster time to market and app modernization. Refactoring into cloud-native microservices and re-platforming existing apps on container platforms are two methods for modernization.
Cloud modernization solutions give you complete freedom to migrate to the cloud during the app modernization process. Clients can benefit from the scalability and flexibility of the cloud using a cloud-native microservices strategy. Using cloud-native tools to modernize programs allows them to run concurrently and seamlessly. To create new user experiences, barriers to productivity and integration are removed. Containerization of existing applications, microservice adoption, and server-less design are just a few examples of cloud-native architectures that fulfill the need for rapid scaling up and down while optimizing compute and cost. Shorter development cycles, followed by speedier integrations and deployments, are now required in business environments. The development and deployment cycles must be integrated. Integration of the entire development to deployment cycle can be accomplished using DevOps tools, reducing cycle time from days to hours.
The Benefits of App Modernization
Accelerate digital transformation:
The necessity to transform a company in order to establish new capabilities and deliver them quickly drives application modernization. Adopting DevOps and cloud-native tools reduces the time between development and deployment from days to hours, allowing businesses to shift faster.
Change the developer experience: Adopt a cloud-native design and use containerization to quickly create and deliver new applications and services. Developers may deploy many modifications in a matter of hours without having to worry about integration or deployment.
Accelerated delivery: Adopting DevOps best practices to foster an automated and transformational culture can reduce time to market from weeks to hours. Without much delay or human intervention, quick code updates can be delivered to production.
Deploy enterprise applications on hybrid cloud platforms: It improves efficiency in hybrid multi-cloud settings by automating operations. This results in "Build Once, Deploy Anywhere."
It reduces integration and builds time: Multiple code streams can be integrated into one using DevOps principles. Without worrying about changes in the current environment since the last deployment, the entire integration cycle can be integrated.
Strategies for transforming the existing applications
Containerize the monolith. By migrating apps to the cloud, you can save money and streamline processes. While containerizing code, the majority of it can be reused.
Expose on-premise assets with APIs. APIs allow legacy assets that are difficult to migrate to the cloud to connect seamlessly with other applications.
Refactor into macro services. Break down monoliths into smaller deployable components that can exist on their own, allowing for faster modifications inside individual components without having to manage and deploy the entire code at once. It also facilitates the addition of new services without interfering with existing ones.
Strangle the monolith. Gradually phase out monolithic applications that cannot be transformed to microservices.
Challenges while adopting Cloud-Native Development
Managing the business case Making the case for cloud-native extends beyond cost and operational efficiency to areas like increased speed and business agility, greater customer experience, and reduced technical risk.
Managing complexity Platforms, operating models, and security have all become more complicated. Many platforms must be managed as firms wind down old platforms and set up new ones.
Managing change Finally, change in the organization, people, and culture must be skillfully handled. Roles and duties, as well as skill definitions, are expected to alter. Principles and Attributes of Cloud-Native Applications
Whether developing a new cloud-native application or updating an existing one, developers should adhere to the guidelines outlined below.
1. Follow the Microservices architectural approach.
Break down applications into microservices to allow for gradual, automatic, and continuous application improvement without downtime.
2. Rely on containers for maximum flexibility and scalability. Containers contain all of the code and dependencies for a piece of software, allowing it to run anywhere. In a hybrid multi-cloud architecture, this offers maximum flexibility and portability. Containers also allow users to scale up or down quickly using Kubernetes container software.
3. Adopt agile methods.
Agile methods shorten the time it takes to create and enhance anything. Developers can swiftly iterate updates based on user feedback, ensuring that the working application version matches user expectations as closely as feasible. Adopting Cloud-Native Meeting the challenges of cloud-native development and making a strategic move may need adjustments to processes, operations, people, and culture. Cloud-native is more than just a different programming approach or a replacement for one technology. Businesses should plan for more broad transformation. The anticipated gap in skill needs is going to widen considerably. Indeed, it is anticipated that by 2020, more than a third of the needed skill sets for most positions would include skills that are not presently considered critical. Containers are technologies that allow apps to be packaged and isolated along with their whole runtime environment—all of the files required to function. This allows the contained program to be easily moved across environments (dev, test, production, etc.) while maintaining full functionality. Containers are also essential for IT security. Containers may be made dependable, scalable, and trusted by including security in the container pipeline and protecting infrastructure. By segregating areas of responsibility, containers aid in reducing disagreements between development and operational teams. Developers can concentrate on their applications, while operations can concentrate on the infrastructure. Container technologies like CRI-O, Kubernetes, and Docker make application development and deployment easier, faster, and more orchestrated.

Application Modernization Trends to Watch in 2022
Corporate organizations have seen a boost in digital transformation as the pandemic has subsided. Legacy app modernization services provide business entities with the necessary competencies and abilities to respond to various dynamic developments. Software technologies are deployed and improved on a massive scale. The app modernization plan is used by corporate organizations to ensure business growth and continuity in the dynamic market.
Existing systems and app modernization are fantastic options for leveraging existing capital and avoiding unnecessary technological investments.
Application modernization is the activity of updating obsolete software for the latest computing approaches, including the latest frameworks, languages, and infrastructure platforms. Legacy app modernization and legacy modernization are terms used to describe this type of operation.
It contributes to the enhancement of structural integrity, safety, and efficiency. The legacy modernization increases the company's enterprise apps' lifespan. You can get information about application modernization trends in this article:
 Application Modernization Trends
Businesses are subjected to a variety of external and internal pressures. During the COVID-19 crisis, it held up nicely. Since the supply chain will cause business turmoil, commercial businesses have seen a rapid loss of revenue. Regardless of the industry, businesses are losing patience with the legacy integration service's unfavorable business consequences and problems. The following are a few examples of application modernization trends:
Legacy apps stifle development.
The absence of integration can be costly.
Onboarding is thought to be more relevant.
The demands for innovative technology are continually increasing.
Assists you in developing customized services and features.
A wide range of businesses claims to generate software, which is a must for today's requirements. After the pandemic, change is the only constant. The app that works today may not work tomorrow. The most recent updates, releases, and patches may cause problems. Furthermore, it is difficult to meet shifting customer demands during a downturn in the economy.
Developing modern apps allows businesses to establish cutting-edge services and features that are in line with their long-term goals. Furthermore, such services and features are custom-built for the company, ensuring that the legacy software adds value to the company.
Patterns of application modernization
The following are examples of common modernization patterns:
Lift and Shift
Lift and shift, also known as rehosting, is an essential element of software development that involves relocating an existing app to a newly built infrastructure from a legacy environment. This pattern will lead you to the app, with no or little changes to the underlying architecture and code. Though it is the least time-consuming approach, it is not always the best, depending on the app.
Refactoring
Another term for restructuring or rewriting is rewriting. This method of app modernization entails adopting the legacy program, then retooling severe underlying code flaws so that it can run in the newer environment. Aside from the most recent codebase restructuring, this strategy entails rewriting the code. It is up to the development team to decide how to decouple the monolithic program into smaller sections. To maximize the benefits of cloud-native infrastructure, they should make proper use of microservices.
Replatforming
The platform can be viewed from the perspective of a midway point. It also serves as a middle ground between the refactoring, lifts, and shift strategies. It does not necessitate any significant changes to the design or code. It does, however, include recent changes that enable the legacy program to take advantage of the upcoming cloud platform, such as the replacement and modification of the app's back-end outbase.
App modernization technologies that are essential
There is a large array of overlapping technologies that are critical to app modernization:
Containers:
They're known as the cloud-centric method for deploying, packing, and running workloads and apps. Containerization has a wide range of advantages, including operational efficiency, portability, and scalability. It has a reputation for being a good fit for cloud architecture and a variety of hybrid and multi-cloud scenarios.
Cloud Computing
It is the process of migrating traditional software to run in the most recent cloud environments. Private clouds, public cloud platforms, and hybrid clouds are all included.
Microservices
Microservices allow you to decouple individual components into distinct and smaller codebases, referred to as monolithic development, rather than building and operating the app as a single codebase. You can then separate a wide range of components into separate and smaller bits, allowing you to operate, update, and deploy them independently.
Automation and orchestration
Software development orchestration aids in the automation of various operational processes associated with various containers, such as networking, scaling, and deployment. Automation is considered a crucial technology and principle. It ensures that security, operations, and development teams can manage the most recent apps as they scale. Modernizing legacy applications is critical to the success of the digital transformation. Businesses have a history of modernizing in a variety of ways. Legacy app modernization solutions are effective in increasing revenue by recognizing possibilities and identifying concerns.
There are numerous reasons why App Modernization is advised. For starters, it allows apps to work faster, resulting in improved performance. Furthermore, it provides the opportunity for personnel to seek improved cloud technology, which aids in efficiently serving clients. As a result, it's useful for discovering new business opportunities. Modernization is the first step in identifying new investment opportunities, such as using AI and different machine learning approaches and transferring data to a data lake. With cloud-native containerization and architecture adoption, you can design and deploy the most up-to-date services and apps.
