10/31. HAPPY HALLOWEEN. I listened to three of olives records again since I last spoke. Let’s start with the bad 😷. “Not To Disappear” by Daughter. It was a very bland indie alternative record with a breathy lead vocalist 👩‍🎤. Very forgettable 2/10. Next up “The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars” by David Bowie. First off, he loses points for that long ass title. He thinks he’s Lana or something. This album was lit, it’s a classic! Out of all the records I’ve listened from the 70s (like 3) this might be my fave. My fave songs were Starman, Lady Stardust, and Hang on to Yourself 😛. And yes I’d prob smash David Bowie in his prime. 8/10 album. Lastly, as I’m writing this I’m listening to “The Velvet Underground & Nico” by The Velvet Underground & Nico (creative album title 😂). And to top it off the album looks like it’s called Andy Warhol because Andy put his giant signature on the cover. Anyways, I really liked the first track Sunday Morning and the third track Femme Fatale, but the rest is not resonating with me on first listen. The best way I could describe this album is when you walk into a record store and they’re playing music and it’s not bad but it’s not like you’re gonna ask what the album is. Omg the last song is so bad, they were like “let’s make as much noise as possible and never stfu”. I’m not gonna do smash or pass because at least one of them is a racist and I DON’T ROLL THAT WAY. 5/10 album

10/29. Oops it’s been a while 🙈. This month is just flying by. I listen to three of olive’s albums since my last review so let’s speed run them! First I listened to “Unknown Pleasures” by Joy Division. It wasn’t very memorable for me. I wouldn’t say it was bad, just wasn’t my taste in music. I listened to this on world metal health day cuz I saw a post about Ian Curtis and that he took his life 😭. So rest in peace Ian Curtis. Next I listen to “For Emma, Forever Ago” by Bon Iver. This album made me realize I might be a Bon iver hater. I only like his songs with Taylor swift... And his best songs he was a part of is Monster by Kanye West (and we all know he wasn’t even the best feature). I just googled to smash or pass and found out they’re a band. I hate when band name sounds like a government names for no reason. Anyways pass all of them. Lastly I listened to “Just Another Diamond Day” by Vashti Bunyan. Yes a song on this album was on a ligma tape months ago and yes I just listened to this album all the way through this month. What’s new. This album made me realize I only like folk music by women but I guess that goes for most genres. It was a very enjoyable listen and was a perfect fall album. My favourite song is “Come Wind Come Rain”. It sounds like what Alex G thinks he sounds like.

10/05. COUNTY BUMPKIN ASS MUSIC. “Stay Gold” by First Aid Kit. First album of olive’s I’m listening to made by women (thank god). This album gives off the the vibe that it’s from olive’s gay brother (I could tell by the ket in the gatefold) so I’ve been a bit hesitant to listen but I was pleasantly surprised. I’d say the genre is a mix of folk, country and alternative so my initial reaction was “no” but I kept it playing and I like it. The band consists of two Swedish sisters 👯‍♀️. They’re like the Lisbon sisters if their parents were supportive. This album also had Omaha Symphony Orchestra on the beat which I really enjoyed 😝. At their best they remind me of The Sundays, Big Thief, and Florence + the Machine. And at their worst it sounds like they’d be playing at the vault or something, but I only felt that way for like two songs that I don’t remember the names of. Anyways, My favourite songs are Cedar Lane and Heaven Knows 😇. I’d give this album 8/10. And finally the part we’ve all been waiting for, SMASH OR PASS. Which I’m not gonna do bc I don’t objectify women. I’m not a monster. I also don’t roll that way 😂😅.

10/04. It’s my day off and I’m back!! And we’re back listening to Radiohead. “Kid A” to be exact! This one was very different from The Bends but I liked it just as much. This album had more ambient electronic elements rather than rock. Many songs also felt more focused on instrumentals rather than lyrics. My two favourite songs “The National Anthem” and “Morning Bell”. They both had more of a classic alternative sound which I liked. My least faves were “Optimistic” and “In Limbo”. They were boringggg. First listen I’d give this album a 7.5/10. I’m not gonna do a smash or pass again so I’m just gonna tell y’all something I learned from TikTok today. U can get throat cancer from giving head 😦. How crazy is that. Good thing I don’t do that stuff 😂.

10/01. The past few days I feel like I’ve been a Debbie downer shiting on albums that are beloved by many, but good news, I like this one. Today I listened to “Darklands” by The Jesus and Mary Chain. Going into this I thought it would be a heavier album considering the title and album art, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much of an easy listen this was. This album felt very 80s but not dated at the same time. I’m gonna wrap this is bc I want to. I like the album as a whole but no song stood out to me during first listen.
Tumblr media
I don’t love their look tbh. Their hair is messy, and serving normcore. Also off topic but, I take Back what I said about Thom Yorke, I get it now. Back to the album I’d say 7/10 would listen again. Lastly I’m gonna stop listening to these records for a bit and go back to my overstimulating pop music to cleanse my mind 🤩.

09/30. Today was a doozy! “Harvest” by Neil Young. Let’s start off with the bad. I wouldn’t say this is Neil’s fault but these older albums are making my brain rot and are giving me writers block. I don’t relate to anything this dude is saying (which makes sense cuz I read he wrote this album after his divorce 😂). Butt I didn’t fully hate this album. Through out listening I kept on changing my favourite song. My fave song ended up being “The Needle and the Damage Done”. It’s short and sweet and I liked how it ended with claps that get cut off by the intro to the last song. It gagged me a little bit. Now back to the bad. My least favourite song is “A Man Needs a Maid”. First of all, a man does not need a maid, what a man needs is sum adderall and DEODORANT! I also hated to orchestral parts of the song. Like y so fucking serious and loud about wanting a maid. Like the only reason u need a maid so fucking bad is bc your wife that divorced u can’t baby you anymore. Grow tf up. Idk why I went on this tangent. I don’t even know this man. Anyways that’s all I really have to say about this album. I probably won’t be listening to harvest moon after this, I like the song tho. And for smash or pass, I’m gonna pass. I’m not even gonna add a picture, he looks boring. I’d give this album a 5.5/10

09/28. Today’s album was not really an album, it’s “Greatest Hits” by Simon & Garfunkel. It’s was a very pleasant listen. I can see myself being like 35 listening to this on a Sunday morning, drinking a cup of Joe 🥸. I don’t love greatest hits bc there’s nothing really to it. I like listening to albums bc there’s a cohesiveness to it that greatest hits compilations lack. But I probably won’t be listening to any of their albums. This is such a boring record to talk about so I’m just gonna gossip now. I did sum googling and they’re not friends anymore 😦. Time for SMASH OR PASS.
Tumblr media
Left kinda looks like Ben Platt. Pass. But right is kinda eating tbh. Smash. They both need new hairstyles tho. This was horrendous to write about. I couldn’t even think of jokes to make 💔. I’m so bored.. my fave song was probably America but is also about America so it looses points for that. I’ll give “Greatest Hits” by Simon & Garfunkel a 6/10

09/27. Today I listened to “The Bends” by Radiohead. One of three Radiohead albums handed down to me. And before u ask, yes added the popular TikTok song “Just” to Vol. Heaven (my mixtape) before listening to the album it’s from. Sue me! This time I’m gonna listen to the album all the way through then give me thoughts. But as I listen let’s play smash or pass!!!! (I know yesterday I said smash or pass is at the end by I can’t listen to this album without doing anything. I have self diagnosed adhd).
Tumblr media
He looks like boy Tilda Swinton. It gonna say pass for now..
Tumblr media
And now for the rest of them (left to right). They’re all so English! Bald dude looks very familiar but idk from where. Smash. Lips looks like he gives the head in Radiohead. Pass. Micro bangs is serving Winona Ryder realness 😍. Pass. And motherfucker at the end knowss he’s finee. That SLUT. smash.. But at the end of the day, they all look like they’re gonna age like milk and I’m not gonna google it.
Now back to the music. Two things English men do well is colonize and make bopsss. On side a the stand out track was “High and Dry”. Soon to find out it’s like their most popular song. I’ve never had a unique thought in my entire life 😐. I like the drums and it’s very looking out the car window reflecting.. My fave song from side b is (u guessed it) “Just”! What can I say, I’m a basic girl with basic needs! Least fave song is “My Iron Lung”. Not bad, just too loud. “Black Star” is a honourable mention. She’s lit. Tbh I was very sceptical about Radiohead but after this journey, I left a fan. But maybe after I listen to their other albums, I’ll change my mind. I give this album a 7.9/10. 🚹

09/26. This is the first instalment of listening to olives records. Today I listened to “Bring Me Your Love” by City and Colour. His vibe is very acoustic guitar, autumn, sad girl, folk. Very emo lyrics talking about being alone, drinking his life away, breaking down, wanting to die, love, etc.. it kinda reminds me of when I used to go to church at the movies theatre and they had a live band singing about god except he’s prob a atheist. He also kinda sounds like a teenage boy. He’s like Ed Sheeran, but Canadian and doesn’t rap. It’s not bad but I don’t see myself coming back to this album. It’s very coffee shop playlist in the 2010s. His hit song “The Girl” might be the the stand out track. It’s cute. As I listen to this album, I wonder why olive bought this album at the age of ten or whatever but I have a feeling it was probably her gay brother’s. I’ve been typing this as I’ve been listening and I’m finally on side d. Might change the settings to 45 rpm to make it interesting. I’d give this album a 5/10. It’s very listenable but not very interesting. My fave track is “As Much As I Ever Could” and least fave is secret! I’ve been typing wayy too much, I should’ve been folding laundry. With every review I’ll end it off with a smash or pass bc at the end of the day looks is all that matters. Pass. Lastly take my reviews with a cup of salt. I’m trying to branch out my taste in music but men singing is so??
