She stepped up onto the newly conjured step stool at Snape’s station.  Her baggy sleep shirt tightened magically, the outline of the constellation necklace showing through the now form-fitting top.  Cissa had seen her wearing it once a few weeks ago and almost started crying…she tried to wear it more often now.  Placing a marble mortar and pestle in front of her, Snape began teaching.

“Boom berries.  We need ten mils of their juice,” he said, stirring the turquoise colored potion.  She placed a handful of dark blue, almost black, berries into the mortar, smiling brightly as the berries turned vivid pink when crushed.

“Are they safe to eat?”  At Snape’s gruff ‘yes’ Lyra continued, “What do they taste like?”

“Try one and find out.”

She popped one into her mouth, wincing at the tartness of the juice before savoring the sweet flavor of the skin.  “Kind of like blackberries,” she decided.

She tried her best to stifle her yawn as Snape carefully measured out ten milliliters of boom berry juice and added it the simmering liquid.  She watched in awe as the light blue potion turned indigo under his constant stirring.

“Do you know what that is?”  He asked, pointing to a long sprig of odd-shaped purple flowers.  

“Aconite,” she answered.  Snape continued stirring, saying nothing.  “It’s also called monkshood or wolfsbane.  The leaves are toxic, but the roots are safe to use in potions,” she explained.

“Three points to Slytherin,” he said with a wry smile.

Have the day off today. Should be doing grad school work but trying to get a lot of writing done today. Maybe I’ll post a sneak preview later...

ok but can you imagine a worse, more terrifying fate than medusa’s one? just imagine. first of all you’re raped in your goddess’ temple. which, apart from the obvious trauma, means you can’t keep doing what you devoted your entire life to. your goddess gifts you with the ability to turn those you look at into stone and your hair into snakes so that you can defend yourself and be a threat rather than a victim to men. and then?????? a fucking MAN decides hes gonna hunt you down and slaughter you for…. sport like just because he can?????? and not only does he kill you but he keeps your head as a weapon???????? effectively using you and your body for his own purpose exactly like your rapist??????????????? like??? and this man is considered a hero while you’ll be remembered as a monstruous, dangerous entity???????????????????? medusa deserved better smh
