Media: Its Effects on the Society

Media has conquered the society, whatever form of media such as the radio, television and also social media. Growing up, exposed in the different kinds of media helps me gather important information, entertainment, and become aware on the different issues that is happening in our country.  I started using social media at the age of 12 years old just to entertain myself. Media also helps me communicate easily with the people who are close to me. As time goes by, I've become mature, while using the media I have noticed that our society is merely using media not knowing that there is a big responsibily that comes with it. By that, as technology and media grows people became a slave of it and they've become lazy. I realize that media has a wide array of positive and negative effects.

The disadvantages of media is that they use it to harass, scam, and bully other people on the internet. Nowadays, there are people who use internet to promote negativity and attack other people behind their keyboards. Based on my experiences, I've encountered a lot of internet trolls. Also, there are a lot of fake news spreading on the internet that leads people to believe those news. As a student, media consumes a lot of my time which I should be spending on a more valuable thing like studying, doing household chores, and sometimes I forget to attend church because I became a slave of social media.

Students, I, myself, tend to plagiarize some of my school works. For me, media is my primary source of information and by that I believe every information that comes from it. But now, it seems to me that the media has become unreliable through the years. For example, when I'm doing my school works I get information from the internet and I get skeptical with those information I get. Also, unwanted incidents occurs such as the youth's engaging to online relationship and sometimes leads to serious matters e.g. (early pregnancy, rape and etc.).

The advantages of media is that we are aware on what's happening in our society, we are informed about the different issues. Also it makes easier for us to communicate with people, information gathering, and provides entertainment. Media is very helpful to students because it has educationl benefits like easier information gathering, it also promotes collaborative learning using social media like Facebook.

It promotes camaraderie through social media. People build rapport in the internet, sometimes people who has a problem find comfort through online friends and entertain themselves. Sometimes, the youth tend to open up more in social media than in real life because of their lack of confidence that is set aside on social media. People also use media to share their talents, skills and lives. This is were most people wheres release their creativity.

At the end of the day, it doesn't matter how many advantages and disadvantages media has. It's all about how we control, share, and think critically with the information we gather in media.
