Ok I just saw Materialists and I don't ever want to hear anyone trash talking Chris Evans' acting again.
I don't want to hear one word about him being one note or wooden. Not a word about him always playing the same character.
Chris Evans DID THE DAMN THING in Materialists.
He was so heart wrenching and soulful. I NEVER cry I'm movies, but today I did because he delivered a monologue that actually brought tears to my eyes, and the expression on his face nearly did me in. He did such a good job playing a 'loser' that you could actually forget that he's a multimillionaire who probably has no experience with this kind of struggle, but boy did he sell it. Give this man his flowers.
I can see why people are saying they'll be thinking about this movie for a long time. Goddamn, was this movie GOOD.
One hundred percent agree!! I’m telling you this is going to be his golden globe nomination

It's probably mostly due to all this press being for Materialists and thus with the film being a romance movie where sweetness and silliness are appropriate, but I think I'm actually falling in love with Chris Evans all over again purely for the fact that he is absolutely unconcerned with more classic, harsh masculinity the older he gets. He's always been a giant child, don't get me wrong, haha, but there's something about it lately... I think, if I had to boil it down to one thing it'd be that he feels very comfortable and like he's not putting anything on. He's not trying to be the leading man and it feels like this space is actually where he lives, so he shines. He's laughing like always but I feel like he's been even more self-deprecating in a very charming way lately, seemingly enjoying being the "underdog" in Materialists. Just, things like Dakota calling him a tiny little raccoon, being unable to open a jar and handing it over to Dakota, dropping things, talking about how he can't cook but he does clean, etc.
