So first things first: these gorgeous Infernal Devices alternate dust jackets are sold out. I wanted you guys to see the artwork by Alice Duke because it’s SO GORGEOUS. I love that each cover shows two pairs of characters: Will and Tessa, then Jem and Tessa, then Jem and Will. I love all the details, like the angel wings, the spire of the London Institute, modern day Blackfriars Bridge, the library books and so much more! These were part of the Lost Book of the White box done by @faecrate and while that sold out, here’s hoping we see these again in a future box, right? 🤞😉
It’s difficult to choose a favorite scene from The Red Scrolls of Magic without pasting the entire book. But one scene that has stuck with me is the moment by the campfire where Magnus tells Alec about his past.
It’s such a beautiful moment. Magnus is once again grappling with his past actions which he’s sure adds another peg to his “Reasons Alec will leave you” board. Yet, even in the face of all that, instead of building up more walls, Magnus invites Alec in. He allows himself to be vulnerable.
After he tells his story, he braces for rejection, for fear, for Alec to turn from him. But Alec wraps him up, pulls him close, and says:
As someone who relates to Magnus on a personal level, I can only imagine what these words meant to him. Because I know what they have meant to me.
I have a habit of always putting others needs before my own, even if it harms me in the process. But I’ve started to realize that isn’t always healthy. So, over the last year, I’ve started speaking up and learning to put my needs first for my own mental health. It’s not always easy and I’m still making adjustments, but when it gets hard, I remember Alec’s words to Magnus and they hold true.
It’s not enough to always do things for others. Sometimes you have to save yourself. And then maybe, in doing that, you will save someone else. By showing them it’s possible. That it’s ok. That you can make it.

During my time in quarantine, I recently started drawing again after almost 12 years! This is the biggest piece I’ve ever done, but I wanted to challenge myself, and I’m honestly so proud of it. I really wanted to capture the scene and the way it describes Alec holding Magnus while also adding my own touch. After choosing the quote, I got the idea to have an image of all the people Magnus has saved floating above them. To stay within the timeline, I only illustrated people Alec knows that Magnus has saved or helped in someway. As a last-minute idea, I animated the flames (from the campfire) to further challenge myself and to bring the image to life.
I had so much fun making this and I am so excited for The Lost Book of the White! This book is going to end me! But I’m ready for it! ♥️😆

He’d started to draw again, but his smile still lingered. This was the heart of her and Julian, Emma thought. This gentle joking, this easy amusement. it almost surprised her. But this was what they always returned to, the comfort of their childhood- like birds returning and returning in migratory patterns towards their home.- Lord of Shadows, @cassandraclare

❝I must be off. There’s an orangery in Kensington Gardens that needs smashing. Ladies, lock up your outbuildings. James Herondale is in town and he has been slighted in love!❞
