i woke up today to a 2000$ deposit in my bank, but if im not mistaken isnt that the cerb payment? i applied for ei and im kinda scared to touch this money if it was given to me by mistake. i wasnt expecting this much so im hesitant to take it.
I’ve heard that people on EI are applied for the CERB benefit as well.
So maybe that’s why?

Just wanted to let your followers know, if anyone sees the massive jump in cases in Canada today and gets scared, Quebec is now listing everyone who tests positive in the hospital as confirmed, instead of waiting for confirmation from whatever lab was doing it before. They jumped to 628 cases in a really short time, which is a scary thing to see, so I wanted to share that so no one sees it an panics.

The Ontario government says there will be no new eviction orders issued until further notice because of the COVID-19 outbreak.
Jenessa Crognali, spokesperson for the Attorney General’s ministry, said in an email to CBC Toronto on Monday night that the province is looking at a number of ways to protect residents during the pandemic .
“Tribunals Ontario is reviewing pending eviction matters in light of the rapidly evolving circumstances related to COVID-19 and no new eviction orders will be issued until further notice,” Crognali said in the email.
“In addition, sheriff’s offices have been asked to postpone any scheduled enforcement of eviction orders currently set for this week,” she added.

borderline paramilitary tbh
At A CASINO in the small coastal town of North Bend, Oregon, dozens of law enforcement officers and corporate security personnel gathered for a two-day training on how to wage propaganda battles against protesters. The November 2018 event was organized by the National Sheriffs’ Association, one of the country’s largest law enforcement organizations, and hosted by the Coos County Sheriff’s Office, which has spent years monitoring opposition to the Jordan Cove Energy Project — a proposed liquid natural gas pipeline and export terminal that the Trump administration has named one of its highest-priority infrastructure projects.
The cost of the event, however — totaling $26,250 — was paid by Pembina Pipeline Corp., the Canadian fossil fuel company that owns the Jordan Cove project.
In fact, for nearly four years, Pembina was the sole funding source of a unit in the sheriff’s office dedicated to handling security concerns related to Jordan Cove — despite the fact that there is not yet any physical infrastructure in place to keep secure. The pipeline and terminal cannot begin construction without approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, which is scheduled to vote on whether to license the project in February. Yet between 2016 and 2020, the department’s liquid natural gas division, known as a “combined services unit,” spent at least $2 million of Pembina’s money. The energy company put the funding on hold in April 2019 but left open the possibility that the arrangement could be revived in the future. Pembina and the sheriff’s department are currently discussing how they may continue to work together, and Coos County Sheriff Craig Zanni said he expects the partnership to be renewed.
In addition to hosting the law enforcement training, the unit used Pembina’s funds to purchase riot control equipment, monitor the activities of Jordan Cove opponents, and coordinate intelligence-gathering operations with private security companies that also worked for Pembina. Local residents, environmental activists, and tribal members have staged rallies and sit-ins and participated in public hearings in opposition to the project, which they say would exacerbate the global climate crisis, damage vital waterways, and violate Indigenous sovereignty. Dozens of property owners could see their land seized via eminent domain.

I always vote and Doug Ford is still in power, we haven't abolished the use of fossil fuels, and I'm seeing conservatives getting elected all over the country. Obviously voting isn't causing change because I vote every fucking time and have literally never seen the change I want take place. What other options are there for me? Because from a practical point of view, voting is not causing the outcome I want.
organized resistance, baby
edit: for more peaceful courses of action, you can call your representatives, protest, participate in strikes, etc. these answers are obviously very generic, but off the top of my head I don't have anything else. followers?

State of emergency orders remain in effect in St. John’s, other municipalities.
The state of emergency in St. John’s will remain in place through Sunday and may extend to Monday morning.
Newfoundland Power says power has been restored to about 75 per cent of customers impacted by outages.
Several school closures planned for Monday.
The federal government approved Newfoundland and Labrador’s request for assistance in dealing with the aftermath of a record-smashing blizzard, Natural Resources Minister Seamus O'Regan said Saturday.
“Whatever assistance we have available and we can mobilize on the ground will happen,” said O'Regan, who is also the MP for St. John’s South-Mount Pearl.
Speaking from a federal cabinet retreat in Winnipeg, O'Regan said additional details regarding the mobilization of the Canadian Armed Forces will come once the two federal ministers tasked with the assistance — Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Minister Bill Blair and National Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan — arrive in Winnipeg.
