“Through the Skies of Hyrule”

Project I made for an assignment in my image design class, inspired by the Light Dragon and sky islands from Tears of the Kingdom. Made entirely of black and white paper layered to create texture and depth.

First rough sketch when figuring out design and layout, the project originally involved taking some geometric shapes and making an image that followed those shapes and positions.

Final design on transparent tracing paper, using charcoal paper to draw directly onto the paper to make it easier to cut. Changed the shape of certain elements slightly to lead the eye in a circular motion around the work- Bla bla bla artist jargon that no one cares about

(All of the small scales were cut into white paper to show the black underneath, very tiny cuts, with an exacto knife. No wonder I have joint issues 🥲)

I ended up giving it to my friend who got me into Zelda in the first place, and he showed it to his mom, who liked it so much she gave me 40 bucks for it 🥹
