Laura’s half distracted when Max starts talking—

—her gaze focused on the area surrounding them. Her nose twitches, once, twice, and she’s satisfied no one else will be coming around anytime soon.

Standing up from the crouch she had been in, she lets her companion finish stuttering over her words for a few more seconds. Laura has a deep gash over her cheek anyway, that had severed through several of the muscles that make her jaw move. The muscles knit together slowly as she turns to look at Max, a bloody sight, with a deep pain that burns through her face. Once it’s healed enough to let Laura actually speak again, she does; “Yes, it’s helpful. Or so I’ve been told.” She’s certainly been told it a lot. She’s not exactly sure if she’s proud of it or not, but helping other people is… a very good feeling.

“I’m fine.” It’s true— the wounds on her face are sealing into scars and— and— and they’re gone, as if they never existed. “Are you fine?” Laura’s stance shifts, and she looks Max up and down.
