This idea of a video game being a more impactful media format for the Heroes Journey narrative stemmed from the idea that maybe people play these video games to feel like a hero or feel important in a sense. So with combining the most identifiable trope in narrative writing with the more technologically flexible design of video game's there might be something there as to how much of an impact is left on anyone who play's because it let them have a character arc for their lives.
One other capstone that kind of sees this impact in narrative in game on even the smallest levels is How Character Designs Play an Important Role in a Story of a Video Game by Evan Arita. It's a project that shows the importance of visuals and communicating an idea to the player without saying it(show don't tell) and gives a cool looks at the designs of characters. Though it begs the question of what that communicated action through character design looks like in motion as a whole game. Also cool look at how design philosophy works.
