I’m sure @captain-of-the-ineffable did not mean to tag this particular blog as I haven’t updated it in more than forever, but hey why not?
Three Things About Kali:
1. She would have been 13 in seven days. This week is still a really hard week to get through, but we’re making it. 2. Sometimes, if she was mad at me for not doing something, she would pretend to cuddle only to fart in my face and leave. <3 3. She had an amazing nose for lettuce. Could find that stuff anywhere if we dropped it.
And why not. Three Things About Me:
1. I now have two dogs (my household has a total of five -- yes, five). One is a Mini Schnauzer/Min Pin/Yorkie mix named Charcoal. The other is a Mini poodle/cocker spaniel mix named Bailey. Charcoal will be two in August, and Bailey will be 1 in November. (After I got Charcoal, we picked up Lily, a Spaniel/Lab mix, and then our last roommate wanted his own dog. So we went to pick up Tiberius and ended up with two of his siblings as well -- Bailey and Dandelion.) 2. I’m struggling with my creative process lately and how it pertains to who I am. Trying to figure out if I want to keep doing what I’m doing, or move onto something else. We’ll see. 3. I tried not being a hermit and absolutely hated it.
If you get this, answer with 3 random facts about yourself and send it to the last 7 blogs in your notifications, anonymously or not! Let’s get to know the person behind the blog 💕
Thanks for the tag @catherinasrose
Ok here we go…
1. My favourite colours are orange and turquoise
2. I love iced chai lattes
3. Some of my favourite books (besides all of TSC of course!) are “A Gentleman in Moscow” by Amor Towles, “The Postmortal” by Drew Magary, literally everything by Becky Albertalli,  and “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald. All of which I’d recommend!
I don’t know the last 7 so I’m tagging @tillytriestumbl-ring @blackwooddales and @star-and-space-ace

Kali Anne - “Captain Corgi” - July 9th 2007-July 8th 2017
Tomorrow, the day before her 10th birthday, I will be bringing Kali to pass peacefully.  It is not an easy decision and it wasn’t even one I really wanted to consider making.
(I’m serious, I had five people with sworn promises to convince me it was time if it ever came to that.)
Thank you so much for the love over the years that you gave us both.  Thank you for the passion and the caring.
Thank you.
Any money left in her GoFundMe will be given to the National Canine Cancer Foundation.
This next step in life will be hard as I relied on her for so much, but she will be in a better place. And I knew that last night when she looked at me and huffed a bit -- her eyes said it all.
I cried because I knew she was tired of fighting this disease.

I’ve had a few questions on how the munchkin is doing. Verdict? Not well.
I won’t be updating this with anything else because it’s difficult enough to update one place, let alone two (especially when the updates usually just make me feel utterly useless).
Any further updates will be done to Kali’s facebook page.

Feel free to friend or follow.  Post pictures or whatever.

Since I know it's coming up who knows when, I've taken some time out of each day to do a quick search for urns. Kali is coming home with me on whatever day she decides to sleep, and I want to make sure it's something special and, well... her. I can't find one that says "I'm Kali" right now, and there's no guarantee that I will, but I'll take suggestions. Or if anyone knows someone that does custom urns, I'll take those suggestions as well.

Some good news. Her meds are not that expensive, it’s the check ups and everything else that is going to cost a lot. That’s okay, I’ll take it as far as I can.
I’ve also talked cremation and urns with the vet. I haven’t found one I like yet sadly.
I’ve also decided that any money that gets donated and not used toward Kali, I will donate to my local ASPCA. They will also be receiving any leftover food or toys I have.
I’m not ready for another family member just yet.
All right, I’ve had some time to struggle through my grief (and that time isn’t over yet, but I have fantastic people surrounding me to help me through this).  I didn’t accept a lot of what was happening yesterday with people - I suppose its the anger part of the grieving process?
Anyway.
Kali has Cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL).  This is a rare type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma that affects the skin and is caused by white blood cells (T-cell lymphocytes) growing uncontrollably. This is very visual on her skin - she has spots that are just mass scabs.  The biggest ones are across her back (usually hidden by her fur, but that’s now starting to come off), but they’re also around her eyes. I can’t watch her 24/7 and while mostly she sleeps in my room, she does also find ways to scratch her face against any surface she can.  The smart bugger she is, she’s found ways around the cone around her neck. This just causes these things to open and bleed everywhere.
Her back paws have cracked open, so they’re probably going to be wrapped for the rest of her life (however long that will be). I’ll know more solid answers after speaking to the vet.
I do know that her condition is terminal. There is no cure, there is only extension of life.
Of my three roommates, one has known Kali her entire life. He gathered his resources and posted flyers around AFO after setting up a GoFundMe. I asked him not to because I thought I was at peace with what was going on, but yeah. I’m not okay with her leaving me. I have to do what is right by her.  My other roommate had an art booth and she turned her tip jar into a donation jar for me. She’s also kept me solid through this, even though I know it’s hurting her too.
The response in two days was enormous and left me emotional and unable to know how to respond to such kindness.  I’m sure the remaining time with her will be just as emotional.
I’m not asking for anyone to help. I’m not asking for money. But I know people who still want to help.
Anything that’s in the GoFundMe will be dedicated to her medical expenses so she can be comfortable in her last months. If she goes before the money is used, the rest will be for her cremation and urn.
If you see me somewhere and mention her, please don’t be surprised if I clam up. <3 I love all of you and I know how important she was to people.
If you have any pictures of her, I’d appreciate it if you post it to her facebook.

Kali has cancer.
And not just any cancer, but a rare skin cancer that has no known cure. It’s treatable, but I can’t even begin to afford the treatments.
She’s dying. And I can’t do a damn thing.

I can’t believe I have to say this. Again.
I’ve just been informed that there is a rumor in the Central Florida cons that my dog is aggressive and has attacked another dog at a previous convention.
1. The convention named? I’ve never been to. Never wanted to go to. Wasn’t even on my radar that it still existed.
2. Kali is shy as all hell. She is terrified of other dogs. When faced with another dog that she doesn’t know, if she can’t run away from them, she will hold her ground and give a warning/distress growl and I remove her immediately from the situation. She has, in fact, been approached aggressively by another dog at a con, but her reaction was to hide behind me and cry out as if she had been mauled. So yes, she’s shy as hell and scared of other dogs.
3. Person in question? Never met her a day in my life.
4. Kali’s retired and the last con she actively participated in was 2015.
5. Getting real tired of this nonsense.

PUPDATE!
Yes that is Kali with the Cone Of Shame under the couch at our hotel. No she wasn’t able to go around AWA. Yes she is doing much better!  Her foot isn’t healed but it’s so very much better than what it was. She just looked too grumpy and I had to take a picture of the grump face. “Mom why you drag me out here and not take me places?”
We’re currently chilling at the house ready to make it through Hurricane Matthew. We’re far enough inland that we should be safe.
