The persona for my character of the animation project, Gombler. I decided to go with a frog because there is a shameless ignorance about the species’ behavior that is commonly the point of human humor. This will make the topic of my video - healthy habits, a bit more light-hearted and warm in atmosphere, while still being able to use the frog as a strong example figure regarding the consequences of non-healthy eating.

The character persona for my frog Gombler. He is an overly-optimistic frog who lives his life in the now. Addicted to fast food, Gombler learns a lesson after binge-eating too much of a diet he shouldn't have.

I continued making my poster with a digital artboard. At first I found it difficult to trace the outlines because I’m not used to drawing while looking at another surface. Also, my original brush couldn’t merge colours together. After some time of trial and error, I finally got the hang of things and proceeded to doing the actual drawing. I am really happy with the end result, but unfortunately didn’t have time to finalize everything.

My sketch for poster one. I wanted to convey the warm of our ancestry, so I used a symbol from a Taiwanese tribe, the Tao people, to represent ancestral power and knowledge. I wanted the central symbol to act as illumination towards its surroundings, so I plan to do a vignette effect and use deep contrast on the hands to convey its significance and power. I plan to give the symbol a magical and ancient look, perhaps akin to worn metal. The hands clasp it, protecting it, giving it value, but also is not fully closed to show the distribution and sharing of the power.

For this homework, I played around with the human hand as it is a central part of social culture and may be used to signify many things. I wished to use to signify unity and sharing. I also tried patterns that radiate outwards to show the same sharing aspect, and also patterns of connection to show the importance of society and the importance of equal distribution.

My 2nd Homework for Project 1 - Analyze/Draw
“Destruction of an Unicorn Pinata”
This work was based heavily on the principles of contrast, composition and repetition.
The main contrasting feature of the drawing is the noose which hangs the pinata. For the start and end frame, the noose is in the same position, but everything else has changed. If we take only the starting frame and the ending frame and put them side-by-side, the viewer may still get a sense of the events that transpired between these two frames due to the vast contrast of removed details. Although the noose does change shape and position in the frames in-between, it is the single part of the image that remains undamaged throughout the images’ depictions.
The composition and repetition from frame to frame was also important because I wanted the viewer to feel a connection of brief elapsed time between one frame and the next. When viewing each frame in order, the position of the pinata’s body will always give the viewer a sense of motion or continued action. I did not want the events in the frames to appear jarring or disconnecting, but instead feel like one smooth transition until the final frame.

My Homework for Project 1 - Analyze/Draw (Incomplete)
I have only traced the outline of this homework, shading and textures has not begun.
For my subject, I chose my mouse because it has some very interesting contours, and asymmetry and composition that was designed to fit perfectly into the human palm. The geometry and patterns also vary with where it is on the mouse, for example the bottom is sleek and slides easily, while the sides have rubber grips and textured patterns.
Since I couldn’t splice open my mouse, the section drawing is purely imagined.

First part of project 1 is complete!
My original intention was to go for a vignette sort of effect, but didn’t want it to look that simple. I noticed that my composition resembled a diamond form, so I decided to create a vague vignette using diamond shapes and enhance the form of my composition in the proccess.
