I guess this is a hot take but 13 year olds aren't cringe, they're just 13. Everyone is Like That at 13 in one way or another. It's an affliction called Being Thirteen. Maybe don't make people that age or people who WERE that age feel like changing themselves or "acting more grown up" is an improvement.

Being a kid is awesome, actually. For personal reasons I will never be growing up.

Out over the sea, moving through the fog, silent as a ghost, is a large sailing ship — it has BLACK SAILS.

Elizabeth stares, too frightened to move, or cry out.

The ship is obscured by the fog as it passes — but not the mizzen-top … and there hangs the frightening skull and crossbones of the Jolly Roger.

Fog surrounds and closes in on the black ship — except for the black flag. As Elizabeth watches, the skull appears to TURN and GRIN at her —

my thesis for why people get so obsessed with potc is that there is a ton of lore just below the surface but it requires just a bit of obsession to get to. thus the majority of active potc fans are gonna be the type to desperately chase down a copy of a weird spinoff comic just to get to some more juicy facts abt the universe we like
