Celebration Peach Month August 2021
Ronald Reagan, when President of the United States of America, proclaimed August 1CPeach Month 1D and called upon the people of the United States to incorporate this nutritious fruit into their diets, and call upon interested groups to celebrate this month with appropriate programs and activities. Filed with the Office of the Federal Register, 11:05 a.m., June 16, 1982.
The peach (Prunus persica) is a species of Prunus native to China that bears an edible juicy fruit also called a peach.
It is a deciduous tree growing to 5 1310 m tall, belonging to the subfamily Prunoideae of the family Rosaceae. It is classified with the almond in the subgenus Amygdalus within the genus Prunus, distinguished from the other subgenera by the corrugated seed shell.
The leaves are lanceolate, 7 1315 cm long and 2 133 cm broad. The flowers are produced in early spring before the leaves; they are solitary or paired, 2.5 133 cm diameter, pink, with five petals. The fruit is a drupe, with a single large seed encased in hard wood (called the 1Cstone 1D or 1Cpit 1D), yellow or whitish flesh, a delicate aroma, and a skin that is either velvety (peaches) or smooth (nectarines) in different cultivars. The flesh is very delicate and easily bruised in some cultivars, but is fairly firm in some commercial cultivars, especially when green. The seed is red-brown, oval shaped and 1.5-2 cm long. Peaches, along with cherries, plums, and apricots, are stone fruits (drupes).

Celebration Straw Hat Month April 2021
Straw hats have always had something of a pastoral air to them, from the conical straw hat commonly seen in rice fields to the wide-brimmed straw hats worn by 18hayseed farmers 19 in the Americas, straw hats say agriculture.
What is largely unknown to many is how far back the history of the straw hat stretches. While some things may only get a single day of celebration dedicated to them, so important is the straw hat that it has an entire month dedicated to it!
History of Straw Hat Month
Straw Hats have appeared in cultures the world over, and have been made from just about every conceivable form of straw or grass as a result. Some of the most common are wheat straw hats, most commonly found in the Italian Peninsula, rush straws, palm leaves (did you know that a Palm Tree has much in common with grasses? Us either!) and of course rice straw and bamboo that are used in Asian Conical hats. It may seem a bit early to consider wearing a straw hat, especially since most people associate them with warm summer wear, but they really can be appropriate for much of the year, especially in milder climates.
The unique properties of the straw hat make it a great piece of attire no matter what weather you face. Is it hot and sunny out? The woven straw hat will let heat escape while protecting your head from the pounding rays of a mid-day sun. Is it raining? A properly woven straw hat will let the rain roll right off your head and away from your face and clothes, helping you to stay dry. They may not be great when dealing with truly cold weather like snow, but wrapping a cloth around your head under the straw hat will help trap heat while keeping the snow or cold winter rain off your head.
Modern straw hats are sometimes made with plastic strips, laminated grasses, or woven paper, but for our money, we think that traditional straw hats are the only appropriate wear for Straw Hat Month. Sometimes the old ways are the best ways.

History of Jazz Appreciation Month
Jazz Appreciation Month was founded by John Edward Hasse, a curator at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History in 2001. It aims to recognize the heritage and history of jazz.
Initially funded by the Ella Fitzgerald Charitable Foundation, JAM supports the jazz scene, encourages the appreciation of jazz music for all ages. This month was selected because so many famous jazz performers were born during this month.
Those born during this month include people such as Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, and Herbie Hancock. Jazz originated in New Orleans during the 1920s. Developed from the sounds of blues and ragtime, it gave rise to different styles drawing from national, regional, and local musical cultures.
Throughout the month, people will be encouraged to participate by studying jazz music. You can do this by attending jazz concerts, reading books on the history of jazz, and listening to jazz music. As a great learning opportunity, Jazz Appreciation Month can offer a significant amount of insight into the cultural history surrounding the music.
The different styles of music produced within the genre, and help shine a spotlight on the historical figures of jazz music. It can also inspire younger generations to dive into the world of music and aim at making a career in the jazz music industry.
How to Celebrate Jazz Appreciation Month
Take the time to listen to some jazz on the radio while doing your daily activities. Read up on famous jazz musicians and learn about their history and how they influenced the sound of jazz. Head on over to a local jazz club and listen to some more contemporary music artists while having a drink.
If you want to immerse yourself in the world of jazz, take a visit to New Orleans. This is one of the most famous cities in the United States and is known as the birthplace of Jazz. Try your hand at the saxophone, and see what you can create throughout the month.
