Old art share.
“Balefur’ and “Marlfox” from 2012
“The Long Patrol” sat unfinished until 2014
I miss Corel Painter 11 and 12, I have yet to find any digital pastel brushes or oils that match up.
I’m not part of any fandom, these were odes to the books I enjoyed as a kid despite the well discussed flaws regarding good and evil characterization, and I did get bored of the newer books past Rakkity Tam and Triss.
I did also for a short time as a child receive newsletters and goodies from the fanclub, but honestly none of it was great and getting mail was so difficult.
I would always skip over the feasts and fluff to get back to the villains, their chapters were so much more interesting.

Of course, the main difference between people who grew up with Redwall vs Warrior Cats is that you’re much more likely to find Redwall people at a sea shanty and folk music concert, and probably the renaissance faire.

YESSS THANK YOU SO MUCH! I'm going to make it again this summer!
Shrimp 'n' hotroot soup in the Redwall books: described as basically the spiciest thing ever, so much it causes characters to have tears streaming down their faces

A few years ago I found and made another recipe that involved smoked paprika and also making your own stock from shrimp shells! It was really good but the page has since been taken down :'(
You can find the ingredients here (link to a masterpost of some Redwall recipes) but the instructions, alas, appear to be gone forever.

Yesterday was Brian Jacques' birthday ♥️
I was on traveling all day, and did not manage to write anything. However, yesterday, 6/15/2024, would have been Brian Jacques 85th birthday, had he been alive to see it. So, here I am, saying happy birthday to Mr. Brian Jacques ♥️ and, as always, thank you for everything you have done ♥️

This is my favorite deeper 'n ever pie recipe! It's probably a bit different from yours because it has a crust and no cheese, but I highly recommend it!
I need to look up the recipe for deeper’n ever pie again and start making it. It used to be the thing I made every thanksgiving in my family, along with stuffed apples, because I was a Redwall nerd and Redwall are notoriously incredible food books.
Is it just a collection of mashed root vegetables baked in a loaf pan with cheese? Yes. Is it a nostalgic cornerstone of my childhood and I hear turnips are really good for you? Also yes.
Can I get my notoriously picky wife to eat it? ….unsure, although I hold high hopes. If they don’t, I have no problem eating an entire pie myself.

hotroot pepper hypothesis
There has been a great deal of speculation about what, exactly, hotroot pepper in Redwall is, and I'd like to throw my newest idea into the ring: horseradish, which is sometimes called pepper root!
It's been cultivated in Europe since antiquity, and was used as a condiment in the Middle Ages in Britain, Germany, and Scandinavia. It's well-known for its strong flavor.
And sure, horseradish isn't the spiciest thing, but we have to take into account that the woodlanders live in Fantasy Critter Britain and probably don't have a lot of access to truly spicy foods. If I recall, hotroot is the only spicy food in the Redwall-verse (but if I'm forgetting something let me know!). Maybe the woodlanders just don't have any spice tolerance.
