I hate when people (and now FTA editorial…) say it was OOC for Scott to leave Maddie or cheat on Jean with Emma… It makes so much sense that the orphan with brain damage who was Mutant Child Soldier #1 is excellent in terms of strategy, combat and leadership and subsequently finds himself terrible at interpersonal relationships and has serious commitment issues. It actually makes him 100% more interesting that in times of strife and conflict he finds his fidelity waning. Scott has always been a little bit closed off emotionally and that’s a part of why he falls towards telepaths so easily. I don’t see why taking this a step further and actually giving this some weight is a bad idea.

I was introduced to Scott Summers with the first episode of X-Men: The Animated Series way in 1992 and he was immediately my favorite. My knowledge outside of cartoons and movies is lacking because I've always been more of a DC Comics person. I have the X-Runs by Morrison and Whedon and Ellis and the Ultimate stuff (through Ultimatum); so, not much comics knowledge. Oh, I also have the recent Champions stuff. What do you think are the best stories/runs/series for Cyclops fans?
Welcome, welcome!
The great part about being a Cyclops fan is that there are very few eras where he's not somewhere center stage having active adventures. So it's really just a matter of figuring out which time period/creative team/character plot era sounds the most appealing to you.
In this post here, I talk a bit about some of the major storytelling eras for the character. I definitely recommend giving that a look, because it might help you decide where you'd like to start.
The thing about Scott as a character, that's really an advantage to a fan, is that he's got a very consistent baseline characterization. Creative teams will, of course, all have their own spin on him, and they'll highlight different aspects to his character, but generally each take is recognizable. And when they do take a less conventional approach (like, for example, the harder-edged version of Scott that we see in the early 00s, when he's with Emma and Decimation's happened and Utopia is in full spring), it generally fits with whatever's going on in the comics at the time.
Even the creators whose work I like least tend to have at least a recognizable Cyclops, so that's a plus.

Finch Rambles: Even more X-Men Evo headcanons!
Kurt is actually really good at gardening. He originally took up growing flowers to impress Kitty (and it does eventually work). He's not only learned what Kitty's favorite plants are, but also everyone else's favorites.
Whenever Logan is stressed, he tends to go where there's lots of plants. Most of the time it's the woods, but sometimes it's near the houseplants in the X-Mansion. However, unlike Kurt, Logan doesn't have a (metaphorical) green thumb.
Combining the first and second bullet points: Kurt notices that Logan is more relaxed around plants, and decides to buy some to put in Logan's bedroom. He also secretly takes care of said plants. Logan doesn't know who put these plants in his room or how they've managed to survive.
Logan has lived a very long time, but hasn't really seen Star Trek. The kids (in particular, Scott, Kurt, and Kitty) immediately decide to remedy this when they find out.
Sometimes Kurt will try to tell a pun in German, only for most of the other X-Men to not "get" it. And any time he tries to translate the jokes into English, they're not nearly as funny.
At any given time, Kitty has a Walkman or an iPod or some other way to listen to music on the go. She's also the type of person to sing along when one of her favorite songs comes on in the car radio.
Kitty has a pet cat named Callie at her parents' house. Callie is a calico cat that's been a member of the Pryde family since Kitty was around eight, and is now around seven years old (during Kitty's freshman year of high school).
This is kind of random, but I think Jean would enjoy bird-watching.
In the winter, Kurt's fur coat grows in slightly thicker. It doesn't eliminate the need for a jacket, but it does keep him warm. And as you might expect, he sheds that "winter coat" in the spring.
Kurt wishes he could play an instrument (since he loves classical music), but his three-fingered hands make it difficult. However, he eventually figured out something that would work: joining the bell choir at the church he attends. He's gotten rather good at it.
Another church-related headcanon for Kurt: He often helps out with the younger kids. He knows how to make them laugh and keep them interested in whatever the Bible story of the week is.
Kurt absolutely despises door-to-door missionaries, but he does enjoy messing with them. Rogue shares her adoptive brother's opinion on this matter. For instance:
Missionary: Have you found Jesus?
Rogue, at the front door: Oh. My. God.
Rogue: (turns toward the house) JESUS! RUN! THEY'RE ONTO YOU!
Kurt: (starts running through the hallway, literally bouncing off the walls) Shootshootshootshoot go GO! RUN!
Kurt: (runs outside, slamming the back door)
Rogue: (turning back to the missionary) No. Can't say I have. (closes door)
In the X-Men Evolution universe, Rogue adopts Kurt's surname, both to affirm her bond with him as siblings, and as a "screw you" to Mystique. Her driver's permit and other civilian IDs have the name "Anna Marie Wagner" on them.
Kitty and Kurt work together so well that some people think they can read each other's minds. This is of course not true (neither of them have telepathic powers), but they both take it as a compliment. They've also been called "drift compatible."*
*DISCLAIMER: OP has not seen Pacific Rim, but would like to.

Had thoughts on Maddie and Scott and, what if, and hear me out, their marriage slowly dies because both are entrapped in gender norms orchestrated by Sinister because that is EXACTLY what some old ass eugenicist would do.
Personally? I think Scott is kinda a bit fucked up from being a child soldier since he was fifteen and a leader for that time too (like almost a decade by the time he and Maddie get married), and he probably hates whatever job he has because it's Alaska, and while his grandparents are around I'm sure he misses the team and his old life, and I just don't think the stereotypical patriarchal duties of an 80s man are things that he enjoys doing and upholding (he'd like to be at home with his son...)
Maddie, sadly, has probably given up her sick ass pilot job to be a stay at home mom and truthfully Maddie was probably made to be a perfect wife figure to Scott through sinister mind control, and who knows how much of herself is his meddling, and how much of that meddling goes against her wishes, ingrained into her by some evil shitbag?
I don't know, I'm probably not explaining it well, but there's something here I feel. Also, I hate blaming either of them for their marriage dissolving.

One of the weirdest defenses I’ve ever seen of the stupid “historians will say they were roommates!!!“ meme, when I point out that queer history is now a recognized and widespread field of study, and queer historians have always existed besides
Is to… Basically deny that those particular researchers are actually historians?
It’s the weirdest thing. But I’ve definitely seen it before: people online disparagingly saying things like “the ivory tower will never accept you; why are you defending them?“ quite as if the person they are talking to is just ~ trying to be~ a historian. Like “historian“ is some kind of assimilationist title that queer people should never want, let alone actually claim. Instead of just a term for an academic who studies history
Do you really think you’re complimenting someone by telling them they’re not a real historian somehow?
[Points of clarity: I would completely accept it if they said “1950s historians“ or “conservative historians“ or basically anything that didn’t totally erase the modern study of queer history. But that’s not usually specified, so. Yeah.]
