I think the one of the things that makes this scene so emotional for me is that this isn't a different person to present David, this is just David. Everything he says, therefore, lines up with what his views, morals and values all are within Storybrooke as well.

When David says "given the lengths you've gone to to save her, they'd be crazy not to", he is essentially telling Hook and the audience that if Killian had done those things for his family (which he has), he'd hold great respect for him and value his efforts above anything else. Even saying if someone didn't think this, they'd be 'crazy not to' implying that this means a great deal to him, to the point he cannot fathom somebody viewing it any differently.

This implies that present-day David (who has seen Hook protecting not only Emma, but his other family members to this exact degree), has this strong respect for Hook and does not, in fact, view him as a morally corrupt pirate like Killian assumes (and like the show continues to imply).

Slightly controversial but I can't choose between original Hook and wish realm Hook so I'm counting them both as one bc I love them both too much <3
