#wordsin2016
Better late than never. Today marks the same day last year where I felt happy and contented of what I have. Happy because I have someone at my back which is Jab. And also because I'm excited to graduate for jhs and for the next chapter of my life. But at the same time, I'm worried. My father has no job for like how many months already. And we're close to nothing already. February, I turned 16 yrs old. And I never felt something special about that day. What's worse? Me and Jab broke up at that very same day. I miss how special my birthday is wayback when I turned 15 and that was one thing Jab didn't get. And until now, I'm still trying to get over about what happened between us. We never had closure so maybe that's what keeping it hard for me. And it was the same month also where our prayers were answered. My father got the job in Saudi. It was march when I got one of the best birthday gift ever, tho it was delayed. My four years of studying hard and climbing the mountain of learnings in science high paid off. My teacher congratulated me for I was the salutatorian of our batch. The people around me were so proud of me. And I couldn't be thankful enough . The day of our graduation, it was one of the highlight of my 2016. I never imagined myself for the past years standing in front of my batchmates and making a speech in our moving up ceremony. I really thank God about that. Month of June where things began to change. I enrolled myself to one of the most prestigious school in cebu which is the House of Gold and Green. I never thought it would be very scary living independently and away from my mom. And I don't even know a single person in our place and even in school. The reason why I chose to enroll to this school, it's because 1) to forget about Jab and start a new life and 2) it's my dream school. And right at that moment, I realized it was really a big mistake. I forced myself into something big. I mean living in a city alone was never easy. And all the adjustments and struggles made me cry every night. But usc is really a great school and I know it will play a big part for my future. And the last month of the year, I never thought I would celebrate Christmas with a huge smile on my face. It was one of the best Christmas I guess. Celebrating Christmas with my family in Danao was something I wouldn't trade for anything. It was amazing. And I come to realize, 2016 was a tough year. I never thought of these big challenges that came into my life and it's because of my immature decision again. But, I'm still thankful because I got the chance to meet new friends. And I'm still learning how to be mature. I'm still in the long process of buildimg myself into something great. I know someday all of these would make sense. And I'm so looking forward to more blessings in 2017. And who knows? I will meet someone this year haha but I would really focus on my acads first. Thank you 2016! It was a tough ride :)

Earth Science Everything has an end. Since this would be my last blog for our subject, I want to tell some of my favorite moments in this subject. At first, I was a little bit frustrated every time there’s a weekly challenge. But as time goes by, I enjoyed making it already. I realized it’s fun to make. I guess that’s the thing about us, we only value things once it comes to an end. What is Earth Science? So what is earth science? For the whole semester, I realize that the definition of Earth Science isn’t about the study of life or earth. Earth Science is the study of necessary things for human to make life goes on. I really thought Earth Science is just some typical subject. But it’s not. It can make you value things around you. It can make you appreciate the beauty of nature. It can make you think that we should take good care of nature. Thanks to those fun activities in our subject. I really did learn a lot. And to those life-changing videos that I will never forget. It was an “O-some” semester with you Sir Yasi. Ti’l next time. 

Hugot there, hugot here, hugot everywhere! Hugot lines are very common nowadays maybe because of those “paasa” people. But just like in the famous line “Walang paasa kung walang aasa” So here are some of my hugot lines about climate.

Back when I was still young, I always wonder if what would happen or what is the feeling when a storm would hit our place. My mother always tell me about her experience Bagyong Ruping where she was scared because it seems like the wall of our house will be taken away by the wind. And the wind keeps on whistling.
I don’t know why everytime my mother would share her experience about that storm, I feel so amaze. Maybe because at that time I keep on watching fictional movies where after a storm, I would find a mysterious place. But everything changed when I experienced Bagyong Yolanda. I can still remember how our school kept on telling us to be safe at that time. I was not worried at first. I feel excited because there would be no class! But when the day came where bagyong Yolanda landfalls, I feel so scared. It keeps on raining and the wind is so strong. Me and my family even my grandmother are staying inside our house and keeps on praying to God to protect us from that storm. At that time, I don’t want to go far to my mother. All of use wear jackets and the flashlight is always in our hands. Some of our neighbors transferred to evacuation area already because they are afraid that their house might be destroyed by the typhoon. We stayed whole day inside our house. And the day after that, our place was like a ghost town. There are no cars passing on the road. No people walking around the street. All you can see are the broken branches of the trees and everything else that were destroyed by bagyong Yolanda.
After that typhoon, I always got scared if the there’s an upcoming typhoon that will hit Visayas. Typhoon Yolanda left a very devastated place and brought fear and scars in the hearts of Filipinos.

Earthquake proof building
Honestly, after I heard the announcement that we are tasked to build an earthquake proof building, I feel so stress already. I don’t have any idea or any tactics to apply in making that building. Few days passed, I feel so worried already.
During construction, how did you test the strength and stability of your structure?
We made 3 structures all in all. We test the strength and stability of our building by putting 2-3 cellphones on the first and second storey and afterwards we will shake the building.  The first structure, the straw was too weak for our building to withstand the intensity of the earthquake. The second structure, there were too many straws being used. And the last one, we decided to plan first for how many straw we will use and we will make it lesser hassle. We decided to use more paper clips than pins since the limit of number of paper clips, which is 100, is just enough for our building. And paper clips are lesser hassle to use than pins.
During construction, what strategies did you use to strengthen the weaker areas? Why?
There are a lot of strategies to make the building stronger. But we chose those tactics that will use lesser amount of materials in order not to maximize the required materials. One of the strategies would be the two straws that are bent outside of each corner of the first storey and as well as the strings, to support the building from standing straight and it will cause lesser shaky. We also used stronger straws compared to our first structure.
What are the strongest parts of your building? Why?
My answer would be the first storey, since there are lots of supporters attached to it to prevent it from shaking and breaking down.
What are the weakest parts of your building? Why?
The second floor, because we used too much straws in supporting the first floor that we forgot we still have to make the second floor. And the supports in first floor are stronger than the second floor. That’s the reason also why we are having a hard time finishing our building because we got stuck up at the last floor.
Where did you use the string in your structure? Why?
At first, we have no plans using the string because we thought it’s not useful. But our classmate told us to use string to make our building more stabilize. That’s why we use it by tying it to our building and to our base so that it won’t fall down.
Where did you use pins in your structure? Why?
Back to our first structure, we use pins everywhere! I mean literally. But then we realized pins are too hassle to use. And we there should be 20 pins only to use. That’s why we plan to use the pins at the second floor, to bond the straws that are used as a stabilizer of the second storey.
If you had 5 more straws, where would you add them? Why?
If given a chance to use 5 more straws, we would probably put it on the second floor and use it as a stabilizer. Because honestly, our second floor is too weak to withstand the major earthquake.
To sum it all up, making that kind of building was never easy! And you really need to plan the strongest structure ever so that it can survive for any kind of earthquake as well as any amount of weight!

Earth—I never care this much to earth as well as to the animals. When I first watch the video, I was really moved. I never thought that there are already many animals that are endangered. And the main reason are the human activities. Human activities that disturb the animals and destroying their habitats that make them extinct. What would be the one thing that I would change in my lifestyle? Every weekend, I go home to our province and my mother will serve vegetables every meal since I keep on eating meat in cebu. And I want to continue this kind of lifestyle since it can bring a big help to those endangered animals. Since I was really moved with the documentary, I rewatch it today. I shared it to my former classmates and friends. I asked them to watch that video. It is really depressing to watch the animals suffer because of human actions. One line that struck me is “we are the asteroid that destroyed the earth” I really want to inform everyone about it. Since social media is so mainstream nowadays and since I love photography, I posted different pictures in my Flikr account to enlighten everyone. Pictures speak thousand of words. And it can change a person’s perspective towards earth. The video is really influential for me. I want to save those endangered animals in the best way I can do. We humans should consider that we are not the only living thing on earth. We should take care of the animals. Without them, we cannot survive. Without them, there would be no earth at all.

As you can see in the picture, I put red spot to those places which can be the possible reason of the contamination on the river and as well as in wells and springs. One of the most polluted well is the well H it is because beside the location of well H is a ‘Metal Works’ and we all know that ‘Metal Works’ uses different chemicals which can be carried in the water and may cause contamination of the water in well H. The most contaminated spring is the S1. Beside the said spring is the Springtown. It can be the cause of the contamination since it is the nearest place of the spring. The day-to-day activities of people living in springtown like using of household pesticides, oil and gas spilled from cars and other machines, human wastes, can contaminate large volume of water. In terms of river, the most contaminated river is the R2. Above the river R2 is the Slidetown. Though it was built recently, it can still cause contamination in the river. And near river R2 is Cornhead Coal Mine which can be the main cause of contamination since it has chemical spill which can be carried by the water and causes contamination. The fine coal dust are also carried by the wind from the said company. There are also several mining company and residential areas in the place that causes contamination. However, there are still wells, springs and rivers that has clean water in it. Maybe because the type of soil underneath help in filtering the water. The people in that place should learn to conserve their water since water is very important in our day-to-day life. And water is also one of the most basic needs of humans. Without water, humanity will face a very big problem and it will take a lot of time to regain those clean water.

As I took a bath last three days, using only 10 scoops of kabu, I can conclude that it’s not easy. Especially when you are used of using unlimited scoops of kabu. At first it is really hard, there’s still shampoo in my hair when I reached 9 scoops already. However, I feel great because somehow I conserve water. And it is really a good thing and a good practice to start with, in helping our nature. And I’m planning to maintain this kind of practice wherein I need to limit the number of scoops I will use when I take a bath. And I will try my very best to be consistent with this. And we all know, time will come wherein we need to limit our water consumption in order for us to survive. For me, it’s a good thing that starting now we need to conserve water and make some solutions so that there will be enough water for us humans and other living organisms in the future.

As I was walking with my classmates along the road near smed building going to the basketball court, I saw this slope. I think above this slope is the chapel. As I was examining the area, I noticed that there are plenty of intermediate size of rocks which I believed have fallen along the slope. And the trees were also bent. And there some trees I saw wherein their roots can be seen already from below.
The second time I saw the slope it was yesterday Friday and it was raining at that time. I was confused if why there are lots of soil and tiny rocks along the road, and then I realized that there was a slope beside it.
I can conclude that the slope at that area  is unstable and has a creep because of the bending of the trees. And also the slope is unstable because of the fallen rocks.

A 20-hectare land I would build a farm and plant many vegetables and fruits and trees to that land. I will also try to make that place to look beautiful so that people also will go that place because of its beautiful view. I will divide the land into 4 parts so it means 5 hectares per part. The first part I will build a barn where my tools will be put. The second part, I will plant cabbage there. The third part will be tomatoes. And the last part would be mango trees. Why did I choose to build farm? I chose to build farm because instead of building a mining company on it or whatsoever that would harm our environment, I would like to help to nature by planting more plants since it is highly arable and has a clean, fresh river running through it.

While I was strolling in our place in Lutopan, I saw these rocks as one of the exhibit of the mining company in our place which is the Carmen Copper Corporation (CCC). I was so amaze that I took pictures of them and I also remember that I can use the pictures for our weekly challenge.
After that day, I try to search in the internet about the qualities and properties of these rocks and mineral. And I try to reflect each rock/mineral to myself. And I found out that the closest rock that could describe myself is the sandstone. From the name itself you can tell that a sandstone is a sedimentary rock. Sandstone is made up of grains and quartz, common minerals. In mohs scale, sandstone is in between 6-6.5. And commonly its color is gray. And its density is 2.3. Sandstone can be use as manufacturing of plate glass, fine table glassware, and common glassware.
So why does sandstone is the closest rock that could describe me?
A sandstone is a common rock and I am an ordinary person. I am influenced by many people and I have different personalities just like how a sandstone is composed of different minerals. I look hard outside but I may also break inside. And sandstone comes with many uses to people especially in building different things in our house and it can be a decorative stone that could make our house more beautiful. I can be a friend, daughter, student, cousin, etc. and I can bring colors also to people’s life just like how I brought colors to my parents’ life. I may be an ordinary person but I have my own way to be unique from the others.

Every morning I see this road. Every morning I pass this road. And it is quite tiring everyday. It is a tiring road but I know this road will lead me to the heights of greatness. My senior high experience is like a road. You never know where it's going to take you and there's no road map. You never know who's going along with you or at what point they'll decide to take a different route. The only thing you know for sure is that's it's bound to be an adventure and you don't want to miss a single moment of the journey.

Geosphere
Postive action: I cultivate the soil in our garden.
Negative action: I throw garbage on soil sometimes.
Biosphere
Positive action: I care to animals like I will feed them and sometimes I will keep them like the dogs and cats.
Negative Action: I sometimes accidentally do bad things like stepping on the ants home.
Atmosphere
Positive action: I plant trees/plants on our backyard to have fresh air in our place.
Negative action: I sometimes burn plastics.
Hydrosphere
Positive action: I used to join the activity in our school where we need to clean the canals in our place.
Negative action: I throw garbage on seas.
I would like to maintain/continue doing the positive things that would help our planet to be a better place to live in. I would also like to join organizations that will bring good things on our planet.
I would lessen the negative actions that would harm our planet. I would remind/discipline myself to avoid doing bad things to the four spheres. And I would encourage my friends to do the positive/good things also.

Stargazing. Everytime I heard that word one memory  eventually comes into my mind. And that’s the NCERIES! It’s when our whole school decided to join this activity where we will learn about different things in the universe. And t'was one of our best experience. We didn’t sleep at that time just to witness the stars in dawn. Eventhough we’re so sleepy we manage to stay awake. They let us use their telescope to take a closer look to the moon and other stars also. Stars are always been great. It will make you wonder how far they are. And I know there are billions of stars in the galaxy and probably I only saw not even almost half of the total number of stars in the universe! I always want to discover something unique in the sky or in the universe cause it makes me feel unique also. I also asked this question to myself “who am I in this world? Or who am I in the midst of this universe?” And my answer would be simple. I’m a part of this universe. I am a passenger in a cosmic journey. I am in the process of finding out my place in space and my position in the unfolding history of the universe. I’m one of those people who is searching somewhere or something incredible that is waiting to be known.

When I was a kid I always love to watch the stars as it twinkle in the sky. I always want to capture the beauty of stars but I always fail because of the quality of the camera. I wonder if it is more beautiful to look at when it’s close? Stars are always been amazing. It always let me feel comfortable and thankful whenever I look at them.
