Friendly reminder as Halloween approaches: Costumes are not consent!
As always, remember to ask for consent and never assume someone is consenting to any activity or action with you. Consent is a sober, uncoerced, communicated, and enthusiastic "YES!" :)
-- [Image Description: A graphic with an orange background with white text that reads "costumes are not consent!" Below the text is the silhouettes of people dressed up with a ghost. On the bottom of the graphic is a black box with the word "consent" and the definition. The definition reads: "1. Permission that is sober, verbal, conscious, willingly given, enthusiastic, continuous, and revocable. 2. Absolutely mandatory."]

Happy Halloween folks! Remember that regardless of what someone may or may not be wearing, they still deserve respect. ALWAYS Ask For Consent. Never Assume that someone is communicating “yes” by their Costume or Clothing. Only a Sober, Uncoerced, Communicated, and Enthusiastic “YES!” mean yes!
Feel free to share and repost CARE - Campus Assault ResponsE’s graphic to raise awareness.

Hi fellow Dukes! CARE will be hosting a viewing of the brand new documentary It Happened Here on February 16th. The documentary is about five survivors of sexual assault and their experiences as survivors on their college campuses. After the viewing, CARE will be discussing this topic with the audience. The viewing starts at 7PM in Grafton-Stovall Theatre. This event counts as a Wellness Passport and as an in-service. See you there!

Hello JMU Dukes! As we try to get consistent content on here we figured a good start would just be explaining who we are and what we do! C.A.R.E stands for Campus Assualt ResponsE. What is our response? Well we have a few. First and foremost, we run a 24/7 helpline for Dukes impacted by sexual assault, rape, and intimate partner violence. This helpline is staffed by your fellow dukes who have undergone two weekends of training. Our helpline is available to any and all survivors, primary and secondary, regardless of race, religion, gender, age, or sexuality. Secondly, C.A.R.E offers educational presentations. One is Sexversations where students engage with each other and facilitators to discuss consent, sex, dating, and other important topics relevant to college students. The other is a presentation on Intimate partner violence where students are educated on myths and facts, signs of unhealthy and healthy relationships, and resources for survivors. As a group we strive to educate our campus on a hugely important topic and offer safe spaces to survivors. We encourage anyone and everyone to attend our weekly meetings (Monday’s at 8 in the SSC 1075) if they are interested in being involved or if they are just looking for a safe space to be with likeminded individuals.
