today i’m thinking about how the despair demons tend to single rook out and how the first time this is recognized is after the treviso/minrathous decision

like, listen. i know it’s probably just a game mechanic thing. but it’s interesting to me that every despair demon in the game does this—single rook out. and how you encounter a lot more despair demons the worse the situation gets. and every single time, without fail, rook is their primary target.

like. the potential juiciness of it all. rook who carries regrets and despair hidden behind a smile that no one can see behind until the regret prison. rook who has to keep up a brave face as the leader so that the team doesn’t collapse because someone has to make a decision.

I'm so glad you added that last point, because it is a very important one, and this is just ONE example of that happening. "Everybody was freaking out about the ozone but nothing happened--" Yeah, because we figured out what chemicals were causing the hole and banned them, and now the hole is gone. "You never hear about acid rain anymore--" Yup, fixed that too.

So next time someone tries to tell you climate change, or vaccines, or regulations are no big deal... Ignore them and listen to the experts. Don't fall for the ol' "Well none of these other problems exist anymore so that means they were never a problem to begin with." No, it's just that problems go away when you actually solve them.

.... Honestly I think a bartender wearing a Kevlar crop top would kinda slap.

I know the answer is "for The Aesthetic and we didn't think any further" but really what is the point of all those random little bits of armour that so many fantasy costumes have? It's not something I'm actively mad about, it's all in good fun, but I do get annoyed when I stop and think about it. When something is meant to be clothing worn by a character who lives in some sort of world it makes it much less believable when there are so few practical considerations.

A knight wearing a full suit of armour into battle makes sense. A regular guy with a regular job in some fantasy village wearing one (1) pauldron and nothing else makes no sense at all. It's not going to be any help in a fight, and it'll probably make it harder to do tasks that require raising that arm above his head. The only way one pauldron would make any sense would be an Achilles sort of situation where the wearer was held by their shoulder instead of their heel while being dipped in the river.

And the ubiquity of bracers has always annoyed me, because they're really not practical for most people and they don't even look that good! They're useful if you're an archer and need to protect your wrist from the bowstring, but mostly they just reduce your range of motion. Bleh.

The DA Transcripts Website is Live!!!!

It's alive!

But it's rough.

You'll likely notice that most of the site is full of links that go nowhere or lead to dead-ends. I haven't had the chance to reformat much to fit the site yet, but wanted to get it live and running!

Please be patient as I continue to work out the kinks in my webdev and html skills. In the meanwhile, I've made a very small, basically read-only discord where I will continue to post updates on the site's progress and you can contact me via submission form. Please use these to send QA feedback (asks are always fine as well)! These early stages are the most critical for me to fix problems such as accessibility or ease-of-use.

What does this mean for the future of the blogs?

They'll still be here, and I'll still update them! I'll still respond to asks and keep an eye on comments/replies, but the formatting will no longer be optimized for tumblr's layout, as it would be a lot of work to make both (and formatting is what has always taken the longest). I'll keep tumblr in the loop on site updates as well, and if you don't like discord, you can follow the DA Transcript bluesky for more frequent news!
