I just think people write out of obligation too often.

"How do I motivate myself to write through the boring part of my story?"

"How do I make this boring scene not boring?"

Don't write it.

Don't write boring things just because you think the structure of the story demands it. I promise it doesn't need to be there.

If your characters need to have gone shopping for a later part of the story to make sense you can just have a sentence about how they went shopping and move on.

You are not obligated to write the boring parts. No matter what those parts are.

You are not obligated to make the parts of your story that you're not excited to write interesting somehow.

You can just write the fun and interesting parts and gloss over and summarize boring things.

Your audience will thank you and you will thank yourself.

Do you have any advice for beginner writers?

Hey Anon! I certainly do, although I'm not sure how helpful my advice will be. I'll give it my best shot!

Read, Read, Read! Genuinely one of the best pieces of advice I can offer. Read a variety of authors, genres, styles and concepts. It'll help you get a feel for good dialogue, plot balancing, how much prose is too much prose, and everything else. Not only is it great to learn, but it'll also help you figure out what you like and don't like! I recommend reading at least one really bad book so you can figure out what you didn't like, and how to avoid it.

Kill Your Darlings. This can refer to a lot of things: characters, plots, chapters, ideas. Sometimes you have to let things go, and that's a natural part of writing. Scrap a chapter if it's not helpful to the story; change a plot point if the characters have shifted while you write; cut out parts that you love but will only bog down the writing. It's heartbreaking, but it has to be done. Save the scrapped ideas and see if you can use them somewhere else!

Share Your Writing. I can't express how important this is. Friends, family, posting it online, whatever you feel comfortable doing- getting a second pair of eyes on your writing is life changing. Don't let it sit on your computer or phone forever- share it! Ask what people think! Find someone you trust to give you honest advice and ask them for it!

Don't Be Afraid To Write Bad Stuff. Seriously. If writers didn't write because they thought it would be bad, we wouldn't have any writers. Remember that everything you're writing is helping you become a better writer, and remember that you can always go back and edit it. You can't edit a blank page, as my fellow writers like to remind each other.

Let The Characters Decide. This applies to most things in writing, not only characters, but for the sake of simplicity I'll refer to characters. If midway into your story you realize that a character is doing something you didn't plan for, or you're thinking about sending them down a different path- do it! Embrace it! Explore that alternate path and see where it leads- you can always return to your starting point if it doesn't work out. Writing is a wild, crazy, chaotic kind of thing; sometimes the characters will hijack your story and start making their own decisions, and sometimes you just have to roll with it.

And, most importantly: HAVE FUN! Writing is a craft like any other, one that takes time and effort to hone. But the most important part of it is to enjoy what you're writing, and the rest happens as you go along. To quote a fantastic Tumblr post I copied onto the first page of my sketchbook: "Don't let anyone piss on your good mood, amigo. If they do? Eat them."

TL;DR: Have fun, experiment, read lots, write lots. I hope this helps. Cheers!

Every single fic update there is an author trying frantically to find the right balance between a nonchalant aside of "leave a comment if you enjoyed =)" and clinging desperately to the coat tails of a random stranger, dragging along behind them on the street wailing "Please, please! I have to know what you thought! I'm desperate to talk to people about this! Ask me about the alliterative repetition! Ask me about the symbolism!"

Hello! I know I'm not the most active on this account, but as the project I'm working on now isn't any of the writing I've shared much of on here. I was gonna do an interest check!

For context: This AU is just a silly one! I'll be posting it once it's done for sure and I'm super excited about it. It doesn't have an actual name just yet, so for now it's MCAU or Miscommunications College AU!

Summary of this AU: You know those comedy miscommunication shows or movies, or even other books? Well, this one is similar! Maybe? I don't watch many of those myself. Anywho! This story takes place in college with flashbacks and gimmicks! In which Grian is constantly saying that he's dating his best friend (but not actually), silly little guy who's seen as a player, Scar who ends up down bad for him, the Bad Boys, Jimmy and Joel have something going on, but they have their respective partners. Etho is a serial killer!? Bdubs is just using (insert name) to get Etho jealous... But what if Bdubs is Etho's target? And many more silly scenarios where all the miscommunication is via peers!
