logically i know that dean stopped going out and hooking up with people so much in the later seasons because a) the writers didn't want to write that and b) dean was having a *nick nelson voice* proper full-on gay crisis. but like. it WOULD be funny if he really was trying to hook up with people but cas just kept cockblocking him in the most bizarre ways. extra points if cas showed up at the bar and flirted his way into having sex with dean's prospects in his place just so dean wouldn't. like dean leaves for a moment to get another beer or something and cas just materializes out of nowhere and is like I Would Like To Have Sexual Relations With You and because he looks Like That™ the women are like. Okay! Sure! and when dean gets back they're gone and he's too drunk to find someone else so he just goes back to the motel and falls asleep.

Misha saying the writers were aware of Destiel and would play into it is so WOW yet so unsurprising. Because of course they knew. because you don't write the widower arc. the divorce arc. the MIXTAPE. The: "I left but you didn't stop me," "the very touch of you corrupts." "I forgive you ... I love you." "I lost Cas and it damn near broke me..." "now you might be able to forget about that but I can't!!

Playing the telephone game here since there's no video, but looking at various tweets summarizing what Misha said, my takeaway is the writers were aware, and leaned into it purposefully, Misha was concerned that if it wasn't openly confirmed, that opened it up to queerbaiting accusations, that people could construe it that way [note that Misha, like the writers, ran with it, because how else are you going to do the thing despite not being permitted to do the thing, you put an exhaust port in the Death Star] and so he was relieved and pleased when the writers told him they could do Cas's confession.

From past comments we also know he was shocked the network even allowed the confession. "We can do that???" Which again...shows you the state of affairs. Multiple creatives who were for it. And felt the ceiling imposed from on high.

Therefore, Misha Collins pretty much said Destiel isn't queerbaiting.

Yes, Cas's confession counts. Yes it's canonical and openly confirmed as far as Cas being in love with Dean. PR still buried it, but I'm talking about the text, and the meaning of what Misha said.

Why is anyone still mucking around about whether it's canon or not? Does PR make something canon? Is PR (big interviews, magazine covers, DVD extras commentary) the only way Destiel is canon?

Do writers' work count for nothing? Writer intent?

How about Misha, who inhabited Cas for 12 seasons?

Does the actual content of what aired and we saw on screen count for anything???? (including implications on Dean's feelings, which is queer coding, not openly confirmed the way Cas's were, but also not "fanon" either)

People always take way too seriously when Misha jokes about cockles, literally all the actors do this, like RW was dry humping JP on last jib LOL. Gay jokes is their thing it seems but it is only a problem when is Misha about Jensen .

Tbf Jensen and Misha’s intricate rituals are a lot different than RW giving JP some form of a lap dance while JP pretends to not be extremely uncomfortable. Idk if you watched the same video as me but JP looked like he was trying not to die. A lot of what Misha says I chalk up to him joking around. But something about Misha is that there’s always a kernel of truth in whatever ridiculous thing he says. He hides the truth behind the grandiosity of an insane statement. However Jensen is very careful with what he says, so when he slips and admits something he probably shouldn’t like calling misha his boyfriend or saying he’s seen him naked on multiple occasions. There’s a world of difference between straight boys doing “gay” stuff for laughs, and whatever Jensen and Misha are doing. Especially Jensen. Cough cough straddlegate cough.
