What I have learned !
During the curation project I have learned that organ donation is a beautiful gift. If you choose to be a living donor you can see the difference you make in someones life. If you choose to donate after death then it might be helpful for your family. I strongly support organ donation and posting to social media.

This website is the story of Colby Cassani and his short life. It also explains how his life, while such a sad loss, turned in a beautiful blessing to so many other kids and adults.
I know that when I die I want my family to make no hesitations when it comes to organ donation. I know my family will be grieving, but if that decision to donate can save only one life, help one person see, get one person off tubes and wires, then it would all be worth it.

In a previous post I attached a link to donating life. But here are some facts that I bet you never knew!
1. 22 people die every day waiting for an organ
2. every major religion in the us accept organ donation
3. the donor can still have an open casket funeral and the donation process is free of charge to the family donating.

I recently posted a way to become a blood donor, and you know you can become a donor once you pass. Did you know that you can become a living donor?!
I want to hear your thoughts on this. Is this something that you would do? Click on the link and take a look. This is a huge decision and honestly I am not sure that it is something that I am okay with doing. I also have an auto immune disorder so I probably can not do this any way.

Why I choose Organ Donation
A couple of years a go I went to a softball game with my mom. The whole time it was just the two of us. Well the one of the last games we went to we met this man who was dressed in head to toe in LSU colors. His name was Wayne and it turned out we were two peas in a pod. Well half way through the first game his wife handed him a handful of pills. Turns out he had already had a kidney transplant. With out someone else deciding to be a donor I would have never met him. It was almost as if we had been friends in another life and then found each other in this life time.
Once I got home I went online and registered to be an Organ Donor. He made me realize that I could help even if i am not around anymore.
Wayne and I still keep in constant contact. He actually just went to Facebook because he is waiting another kidney transplant.

A social media push boosted the number of people who registered themselves as organ donors 21-fold in a single day, Johns Hopkins researchers found, suggesting social media might be an effective tool to address the stubborn organ shortage in the United States.
My take on this is that I feel that going to social media for donation is a awesome tool. Social media has so many negative impacts, but to have something positive come out of it is an awesome thing!
In a later post I will touch base on how social media got me to sign up for DKMS. Which is not organ donation, but it is another way to donate. This one you can still be alive for!
