The fact that this could be Armand speaking from personal experience if past DM is a thing drives me feral. What if he saw first hand that the drugs and alcohol was killing Daniel but in this timeline since Daniel didn't release the book back then, things never got to the point where Armand felt comfortable turning him so wiping his mind was the only way.
And what if the only reason Daniel was able to ultimately kick the drugs was because in erasing himself from Daniel's mind, Armand erased Daniel's desire for drugs. Because Daniel's favorite drug was Armand's blood.

I'm trying to practice speed and simplification, so I'm doing some quick sketches. My first victim is Daniel Molloy.
I drew him so many times because his likeness is so hard to get right that it irritates me (lol, I sound like Armand, probably)
Also, does anyone want a playlist I made for him? https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1gzBJ6x5kj4SV32eXfj8I5

Okay Devil's Minion sickos. I know everyone is obsessed with these two Depeche Mode albums for your edits, playlists, and moodboards. But I NEED more of you to use Ultra. Like seriously look at these lyrics.
BARREL OF A GUN
HOW is that NOT the song for Daniel during the period when Armand wouldn't turn Daniel but wouldn't let him go either.
IT'S NO GOOD
HOW is this NOT Armand stalking Daniel.
SISTER OF NIGHT
Really this one could be either of them talking about the other.
THE BOTTOM LINE
HOW is this NOT what happened after Armand finally turned Daniel and their love evaporated.
And if we count later additions to the album
SURRENDER
HOW is this NOT Daniel talking to Armand and how he sees him as a beautiful monster.
IT'S ONLY WHEN I LOSE MYSELF
HOW is this NOT when Daniel was dying from alcohol and drugs where only Armand could make him feel things.
Like please Devil's Minion, Armandaniel, Armandiel, whatever ship name you fly your flag under, PLEASE USE THESE SONGS MORE. I NEED TO SEE THEM IN EDITS, PLAYLISTS, AND MOODBOARDS.

Technically, it was "Rest" and then "Rise." Which fits even more with the Devil's Minion of it all.

The farther we get away from the Season 2 finale the more I NEED and think past DM has to have happened, although I am not as hopeful as others that it will happen in the series. But I do think it is not that hard to imagine how it could have happened in this timeline.
We know that Armand wiped both Daniel and Louis' mind after the incident, so why should we expect either of them to start behaving differently. We know Daniel continued doing drugs and interviewing people in the area well into the 80s and Louis continued killing people in San Francisco after the incident as well.
So it is very likely that Armand had to make sure the two of them stayed apart, since they still ran around in the same scene. And one day, after Louis already left with his latest conquest, Armand was left alone in a bar where Daniel had showed up.
Knowing how obsessive and controlling Armand is, maybe he wanted to make sure Daniel didn't remember him. And while Daniel does not remember him, he does make sexual advances. So Armand learns that Daniel is actually attracted to him and didn't just make those passes during the 6 day torture session out of self preservation.
And since Armand cannot/does not leave San Francisco for some time, what if this becomes a semi-regular occurrence and any attempt Armand makes to ward Daniel off, even the occasional violent attempt only makes Daniel latch on harder. Maybe Armand eventually relents or maybe he doesn't and because Louis is still so stuck in his grief, it isn't hard for Armand to keep it all a secret.
Eventually Louis and Armand move on, and Armand thinks that is the end of this situationship with the boy, but then on a chance stop in Paris he meets Daniel again, and it becomes a full blown romance. Daniel momentarily turns away from Alice and doesn't finish his book. But then Alice gets pregnant and Armand is still with Louis and the two of them just cannot trust the others' commitment.
Maybe I need to fic it out. If the show won't do it, I guess I could.

At this point whether or not they do 70s/80s flashback Devil's Minion is whatever, but Rolin Jones at least needs to give Assad Zaman and Eric Bogosian that turning scene. They clearly want to do that turning scene so bad. Few actors are so obsessed with their characters' relationship and are down to do all the wild stuff as these two clearly are. Like we all joke about us shippers mostly getting DM crumbs for Armand and Old Daniel these past two seasons, but it seems like the actors feel the same way. WRITE THEM A TURNING SCENE ROLIN.

I think the best dynamic they could have for Lestat and Daniel in S3 is to have Lestat knowing full well that Daniel is a vampire and that Armand turned him, keep trying to casually out Daniel in the documentary to get a rise out of him.
Daniel: What was your first kill like?
Lestat: As you know by now, they can be very messy.
...
Daniel: Did you find it difficult to remain in the public eye during those early years?
Lestat: Looking for some pointers.
...
Daniel: So what did Armand taste like to you?
Lestat: Do you want to compare notes?
I just love the idea of Lestat making the editing job so difficult for Daniel.

There are still sooo many questions I have about Daniel’s timeline which largely go back to that memoir anecdote about the car seat and the Buick from S1E3.
The blurb on the back of the memoir itself makes the book seem like it only follows Daniel’s life in San Francisco, specifically when he lived in the Haight neighborhood. So, if we go by when car seats became mandatory in the US in 1985, his first daughter would have been born anywhere from 1974 to 1978 making her anywhere from 44-48 by the interview in Dubai. This would then put his second daughter being born in 1985 making her 36/37.
Both would likely have been long since married and/or divorced by then, so the talk Daniel and Louis had in S1E6 seeing them reach those benchmarks makes little sense. Daniel should have already seen those things. He could even feasibly have young great grandchildren by now from that first daughter.
So, this would then suggest that the daughter born in Paris in 1985 is the first child and the second one came much later and possibly with his second wife and is likely in their 20’s now. Which could still work with the “7 years” editor comment because car seats became mandatory in France in 1992. And this would make that conversation between Louis and Daniel work better (although still not great because even then there is still a high likelihood that both daughters could be married). But then WHY would that anecdote be in his memoir about his time in San Francisco.

And it still begs the question why Daniel and Alice were in Paris for so long, especially if the first timeline is the correct one and they had a 7 to 11-year-old daughter at the time which I find highly unlikely in that case. But this being their first child would make no sense either since how could the two of them afford the café lifestyle in Paris if Daniel is giving away his last $30 for drugs in 1985.
It must be an unintentional flub, right? And they just didn’t account for either how old his daughters would be when they scripted S1E3 or didn’t plan out the idea of the memoir/timeline well because even if one threw in the Armand/Alice stuff the timeline seems highly questionable because Daniel clearly did have at least one child with Alice either in 1978 or 1985 because there is no way his memoir would have passed scrutiny otherwise.
#Yes I know I am reading too far into it but it would muddle the “memory is a monster” story beat if the timeline is just borked#It just seems like if they went out of their way to make these fake books and timeline events it would fit together more satisfyingly#iwtv s2#iwtv amc#iwtv season 2#devils minion#armand is alice#louis de pointe du lac#iwtv season 1#amc iwtv#interview with the vampire#iwtv#daniel molloy#armand

A lingering question I have from IWTV. In S1E2, the dessert Louis has made for Daniel is the one he had after he proposed to his first wife. Well, we later learn in S2E2 that Alice said no to that proposal (must have been an awkward dessert). In the S2E1 scene, Daniel shows some muted sadness but also some fondness for the incident. Yet in the S2E2, it's made clear that this is actually a very emotionally charged moment for Daniel, nearly bringing him to tears when he is pressed about it.
I am not on the Armand/Alice memory mixing train, but it really seems like a strong shift from muted sadness/fondness to high emotions especially as paired with the triggering flashbacks to San Francisco and Armand.
Like, I am pretty sure the showrunners didn't mean for it to seem odd or connected in that way, but the two scenes just don't seem to jive the way one would expect, especially with how much the show discusses the fallability and mercurial nature of memory. As such, I am surprised there wasn't more made of the two scenes, like Daniel or Louis bringing up the dessert in the S2E2 scene.

My theory on the “special dinner” that Louis and Armand had planned for Daniel before he exploded their marriage:
In S2E6 Raglan James said the last “four” people who attempted something like this were dead or undead. I think once a decade around the anniversary of the interview, Louis would get to the point where he was breaking down and/or breaking through the memory loss so he and Armand would essentially recreate the interview from 1973, but these interviews only ever reinforced the lies Louis was telling himself and that Armand had crafted for him. Likely because these were reporters similar in age, temperament, and experience to young Daniel.

To not break the 3rd and 4th laws they would then offer to turn the person or kill them. In the case of turning, said reporter likely wouldn’t care to publish anything because as a young reporter, no one would believe them, and it could now out them as a vampire as well. And in case of death, well said reporter wouldn’t be publishing anyways. And the Talamasca likely didn’t intervene in these cases as there would be no benefit to them like there would be with someone that has the reputation and standing of Daniel Molloy.
So, after learning that Daniel, the man Armand and Louis had staked their entire relationship on 50 years ago, had Parkinson’s, they decided to invite him back again possibly as the last attempt at putting this all behind them. After all if there were no breakthroughs in an interview with the "boy" who started it all, then they could let it rest either with Daniel's death or by allowing him eternal life to always be a shoulder for Louis.
So, they were going to offer to turn Daniel and possibly even had victims on tap if he chose that route. Because adding to all the above, Louis said later that he was sorry Daniel was “burdened" out of "spite” not that he was turned at all. Because as with Madeleine, Louis wants turning to be a beautiful transformation, not a violent or traumatic or sudden one.
And with the plan being to turn Daniel anyways, Armand probably saw that as an out to Louis’ threat because what difference did it make.

I was already spoiled about Devil's Minion before I finished the TV show so I don't know if and when I would have started shipping Armand and Daniel (maybe towards the end of S1 but it is hard to say) but I 100% think I would have by S2E5 because Armand continually falls in love with people who implode his life. And Daniel did it TWICE.
Also going back to watch certain scenes is wild. Like Daniel wondering what "Rashid" would taste like and then claiming he is a savory man most days in response to "honey and pineapple", but in his youth he liked Grasshoppers.
Or Armand claiming he didn't ultimately like Lestat because he tasted like "Vermouth and annihilation" but then we find out later he did indeed love Lestat (only to be abandoned by him) so he must have liked the taste. And furthermore we know that Daniel likes Martinis and Armand clearly knew how much Vermouth to put in it.

Heaven’s Thief 1-2
“I presume you brought one of those ghastly carriages,” he asked with a thinly veiled scoff as they exited into the chilly morning air. She nodded, pulling out the remote starter as he continued. “If she insists on these anachronistic tastes, she might as well acquire a real carriage with horses.”
“And have to deal with 'those dumb foul-smelling creatures'” she responded with a chuckle imitating their step-mother's voice, “Not a chance. She wouldn't even let us keep Charley and Everett at the stables in town. And the last time Balthi brought in one of his injured birds home, she had it thrown out a window. The only animal allowed on the property right now is grandfather's Great Dane and she wouldn't dare upset him by getting rid of it.”
A large ornate carriage drove itself up from the main lot and stopped seamlessly in between the cars already parked along the loading zone. He helped her up the steps and followed audibly swallowing his distaste. As soon as they were seated, the AI driver called out in an artificially cheery tone.
“Master Maximilian. It is a delight to have your company. Destination time is currently three hours, two minutes. Please enjoy refreshments and music.”
The two of them remained quiet for quite some time as the carriage wound its way up the coast. Although their letters could go on for pages, it had been nearly four years since they had talked in person. Neither seemed to know quite where to begin. She was in deep thought and watching the scenery when suddenly he began to apologize to her profusely for not engaging in conversation.
“You know you don't have to keep up all this gentleman behavior when we are alone,” she said.
“You are the only one for whom I am happy to oblige. And if you must know, Verona will see no such respect from me. In fact I may just don one of the accents, I have picked up from my colleagues. Something particularly distasteful to that old hag.”
“Could you at least wait until after the wedding to grate her?”
“Well, I...” he began but silence was far more preferable to a hollow promise and that silence persisted for much of the rest of the trip, which continued to trace the coast for some time before crossing over into the low northeastern mountains. As they passed the cities, they would make occasional small talk over how much they had changed or stayed the same. Since his last visit, a few of them had linked up and in a few more years they would become just another mega city sprawling on uninterrupted for miles.
As they wound their way deeper into the mountains those packed skyscrapers and impenetrable suburbs gave way to farmed plains and thick forests filled with smaller mountain towns and palatial estates afforded to the wealthier families and social elites. The estate that belonged to his family had been built generations ago on a col between two of the ranges more secluded peaks which gave them a privacy few could obtain these days. A little lower on one of the mountains his family had also built a colossal clinic, one that was more massive than any of the hospitals found in the local cities. Nevertheless, it actually remained quite vacant except for one brief period during the last great war.
It was this clinic that would become his professional home for the foreseeable future. And as his eyes finally laid upon it, he spoke aloud with an alarmingly grim cadence, “As a child, I always dreamed of working at the family clinic, but this feels like the start of some dreadful nightmare.”

Heaven’s Thief 1-1
The fog seemed to thicken and close in as the train drew closer to the station, so only the screeching of its final braking stage signaled its arrival to the crowd. As soon as the sound of unlocking doors echoed through the station, the crowd whipped itself into a fury screaming names and commands into the ether. People rushed around bumping into each other trying to find friends and family and account for luggage.
A young woman eyed the steady stream of passengers carefully as they filed in through the main building. She had been to the station everyday for the past week hoping her brother would be among them. He was not scheduled to arrive until the following week, but she knew he would try to avoid all of the insanity surrounding his arrival, especially having to greet the family under the watchful eyes of the public.
Although not incredibly tall, he was well enough above average that it was impossible to miss him when he entered the building even in such a thick crowd. Even more so due to his thick red hair which was not only uncommon in this part of the country, but such a vibrant shade of red that it would catch in the light. If you hadn't known him all your life you might have assumed he dyed it to that color. In fact as a kid he had been forced to dye it to a more natural shade because other children found it too distracting.
She shuffled through the crowd to greet him, but out of the cover of fog and the anonymity of a train compartment, he was almost immediately recognized and the crowd seemed to collapse in towards him. Cameras began to flash from all around the hall and she could just make out his voice before deciding to retreat to the waiting area with a sigh. About a half hour passed before the crowd thinned and he was able to excuse himself.
As she watched him walk away from the crowd, she noticed that he had a peculiar gait. It would be hard to notice if you were not paying close attention and especially if you did not know him well, but his right leg seemed somehow out of sync, like a split second too slow to match the speed of the rest of his body. She was so mesmerized by it that she did not notice that he had spotted her from across the hall until he passed into the waiting area. He allowed a sheepish smile to escape as he gave her a modest bow and held out his arm to her.
“I do hope you have not been here all week, Mrs. Raines,” he said with a small snort, helping her to her feet. She remained quiet for a few moments turning over the words in her head as her cheeks began to flush.
“It's still Miss Atwood,” she responded with only a quick glance towards him.
“But in your last letter...”
“Well I, uh. When I heard you were coming back, I had the wedding postponed,” she said turning her head down to her feet as her cheeks reddened further.
“May I ask why?” he said coming to a stop next to the parking lot doors.
“I wanted you to give me away,” she said finally looking up at him. She caught a wave of concern flit across his face, but he quickly replaced it with a broad smile. He seemed about to speak but instead just gave a gentle nod and opened the door for her. As she passed, she noticed that his face fell back into one of concern.
