it makes me so genuinely mournful when i see teens and young women speak about their dream being to support their husband and watch him live his dream. and this isn't me judging women for their choices. i understand that these women in most cases have choice in the practical sense. but so often, in so many different communities, girls are not shown what it means to live their life with themselves at the center, they are not actually told about the many different sorts of lives they could have. i have a cousin, and she grew up well to do, she went to college, and she's nice and pretty and funny. but she never developed her own internal world without centering a man, first her father, and then her husband, in it. and i don't mean "she never developed" as in she's stupid or a dumb man-loving robot. i mean she was never given the opportunity in her environment to see that as a way to have a happy life, a correct life. today i was talking to a younger coworker and she was commiserating about dating. she said i don't think i'm bad looking and i have all the housewife skills. and it made me sad!! it bothered me. being a homemaker isn't bad, but it is still so expected, on top of having to also be economically solvent. women have to knit the family together, too often their husband comes first, his ambition and wants and goals. and it's all baked into this tradwife conservatism and it's hiding behind a barrage of "it's not feminist to attack women's choices!!" i'm not the inspiration i am the artist! it's my life i am not the wag that cheers on from the sidelines goddamn

say what you want about bruce springsteen and cringe old man behavior but he really does believe in what he is saying and at the end of the day he is so sincere that i'm like let the man speak he has never wavered he wrote a song about police brutality, he's up on stage quoting james baldwin the "great american writer" like the boy from new jersey is talking to you

i love angus tully so much as a character and i feel both a catharsis and a deep resentment watching him because when i was a lonely, neglected teen i wasn't able to be an outwardly angry boy who threw tantrums, i had to be a quiet girl who stayed in her room and now i'm closer to 30 than to 17 and i wish i had one week to scream and cry in public and throw a fit and eventually be cared for by an adult who gives a fuck

one glaring stylistic error of mad men is that they never had one goddamn wedding episode and i know what you're thinking, margaret sterling's fated wedding but that was more of the jfk episode and i am mad we never saw joan or megan or betty in a flashback or even goddamn jane in a dress with all of the principles sneaking around you know

i don't care if a voice coach came out and said "actually i have no problem with brady corbet using AI to help Adrian Brody's hungarian accent" like....good for you!! i DON'T LIKE IT i think it's annoying and also as much as i do not like him Adrian Brody does not have to have a perfect accent to make good art or be impactful in the role like either accept imperfection or hire a hungarian actor but do not use AI for art fuck you

at the risk of being annoying, i just want to put it out there that mainstream media in the states is in no way implying that canada ever wanted to be a part of the united states. the media is reporting that trump wants to take over canada, but it is not presented to the american people as some new, exciting prospect. me, my family, and most of my friends were rooting for canada in the four nations final. we are ashamed, embarrassed, and frightened. and yes, yes yes trumpers and maga has infected a large part of the voting bloc, and yes! a lot of them are ignorant of a lot of things. my opinion is that they are willfully ignorant rather than just plain stupid (at least the ones i know). and canada and the world have a right to be furious and angry.
idk i guess my point is millions of americans are trying to be heard, trying to fight back. americans are not a stupid, evil monolith. there are protests every day, people are donating to ukraine and palestine, my mom tries to find canadian products to buy, we're boycotting target and trying to drag tesla stock down. idk i'm not saying the world shouldn't be angry or that americans shouldn't be ashamed, but i am saying that i love my people and i hope we survive to try to make it up to everyone one day
