im honestly both taken aback + deeply glad to see black susie readings as accepted as they are on here. i can imagine a handful of years ago, poc like myself would've seen themselves in characters like her - standoffish due to being ostracized and villainized, not academically exceptional, both being the result of prejudice, etc. - and been met with accusations of stereotyping and "bad representation" just for that.

i'm glad we're recognizing traits known as "stereotypes" aren't the fault of people who happen to align with them, whether they had a say in it or not, but rather the systems who force them into those traits while simplifying and demonizing them, if not falsifying entirely, for the sake of oppression. if i'm ever an "Angry Black", it's probably cause the only alternative's being a doormat or dead.
