Critique of Final Series
I think that my final series of images were particularly successful in exploring how through the manipulation of light, shadow and scale a sense of space and narrative can be developed. Through the refinement and development of the series particularly in the refinement of the stalker/couple narrative, it creates a much more interesting cohesive series.
Overall I think I have developed this assignment well and through small amounts of refining in Photoshop with cropping, exposure etc creates more striking images. It would be good to in future become more skilled in editing in the field so that not so much editing is needed later.
A clear development has occurred within this assignment which created a series which are both visually interesting and more technically advanced than previous images.
Composition of the images was important and by making sure that the figures were off centre in all images except the last one, the stalker narrative is much more effective. I think that through this course my technical ability has improved dramatically since the beginning and due to multiple iterations of shoots I have been able to refine the technical aspects and composition of the images.

Final Proposal Refined
Architecture and space is nothing without light, shadow and scale. For project 3, I have investigated how through the manipulation of light, shadow and scale a sense of space and narrative can be created which differs from reality. Through the use of small silhouettes the audience can be manipulated into believing that the spaces are of human scale and something that they are not.
Light and the subsequent shadows play an integral part in what we as the viewer see and interpret within images. The first four images portray a sense of a man stalking a woman due to the use of dark cast shadows, lighting and scale. The last two images show the reality, where the man catches up and they have a romantic moment looking over the city. These images therefore purposefully through lighting and scale manipulate the viewer to see something which is not reality, showing the power of lighting and camera techniques within photography.

Reflection_Photo shoot 4
In the images that I have created I wanted to give a sense of narrative to add another layer of depth to the images. For this part I have considered the idea of a couple walking towards their meeting spot, overlooking the city. I have specifically chosen to use dark places for the man to walk whilst the woman is walking in a light space. This is perhaps reflective of how we manoeuvre within space. I would not tend to walk down a dark alleyway at night whilst I would feel more comfortable in a lit up space.
Further  development of the photographs into cohesive series is needed to give depth to my project.

This is the last one of the best images from shoot 4.
I think this is interesting as it is a ledge high above the road but though the lighting, focus and angle it looks as it the girl is walking down the street. After further critiquing the images I came across the stone in the image which makes the scaling not work as effectively as it is something that we recognise for size.

I think this is interesting as it creates a walkway path space. Not sure if i will use this idea for final images as it doesn't really use architectural form although the silhouette works well.

Shoot 4_best images
This image is interesting as it gives a sense of scale due to the silhouettes. Interesting to note that when I showed this to one of my flatmates,  she queried how creepy it was of me to take a picture of a couple. This gives a sense of the manipulation images can create with the use of light and shadow. To add depth I have cut out small silhouettes to give a sense of scale when I am tajing the image rather than just adding it in photoshop. I think this is far more interesting also as you get a sense of the real shadows.
This image could be cropped slightly t take out the black bit down the bottom which was holding up the silhouettes.

Shoot 4_ Best image reflections
I think that these images are particularly successful as they abstract the real form to create a sense of space through the use of light and shadow and the addition if a silhouette to give a sense of scale. This images looks as if the man is walking down a darj alley alley way. The actual image is taken between two bricks. Using architectural form to create space within space is an interesting concept which has been further developed with the use of silhouettes. It also creates a sense of narrative as if the man is walking somewhere.
I think that in terms of silhouette the bottom image it is more successful although the lighting in the top image is interesting

Video
youtube
This is a really interesting video which makes normal size things such as people and boats etc look as if they are miniature. In my project I will do the opposite by creating the sense of a a normal human scale space in a much smaller space. Playing within the idea of manipulation of the viewer.

Contact sheet 4_Assignment 3
I think that some of these images where successful as they portray the idea of creating spaces which seem larger than they really are.

This is an example of the type of images that I could investigate but using actual cut out silhouettes rather than using Photoshop to put them into the images into the original images.
It would be far more effective using cut outs as you would get the shadow from behind as well adding to the depth and reality of the image

This image is interesting as it has enabled me to see how I can further develop my project. This image is one corrugated iron and the bolt. With the use of shadows it creates a sense of a persons silhouette, which can be further developed into a cohesive series.

Refinement of Proposal_Assignment 3
After today’s tutorial I have further developed my proposal which give me a greater focus on light and the manipulation of it.
In a sense architectural form is nothing without light, shadow and scale. Through the use of light, shadow and scaled silhouettes I will investigate how architectural form can be manipulated to create spaces within spaces. I will influence what the viewer sees with lighting conditions that create a sense of architectural space which by taking away the function of it and creating something new. An example of this may be that corrugated iron may be lit in a way that it looks like a water slide or a pathway, in a sense making the small scale larger through lighting techniques.

These images are from Slinkachu’s ‘Little people Project’ which stated in 2006. He essentially paints small miniature models and leaves the on the street as an art installation and photography project. This is interesting as he uses miniature models of people and objects as a way to manipulate our sense of scale. These images are very well composed and I am able to draw inspiration form this as I use silhouettes as a way to create a sense of scale within my project through shadow and light.
Slinkachu uses areas and objects which are able to be recognised by the viewer which gives a sense of wit to the images, whereas for my project I will abstract the architectural form in a way that takes away its purpose and creates a a new space which differs from its original use.
