Fabulous Friend Machine by Nick Bland We've had some really good discussions this past week at Cayley School about safety on the internet and using technology in a polite way (no texting at the table!) all sparked by this great book!  It's humorous and on point a good resource for parents and educators.

The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien The Hobbit.  Not new, but oh my, what a wonderful old friend.  Doing this as a read aloud with the Grade 7-8 class.  So beautifully written.  It's magic.

Omar’s Halloween by Maryann Kovalski This one is a perennial favorite at Cayley School.  Poor Omar....Halloween didn't turnout quite like he expected!  I'm looking forward to sharing this with some trick or treaters at Cayley School today!

Niko Draws a Feeling by Bob Raczka, illustrations by Simone Shin I love this book and am so looking forward to sharing it with my students.  The text is beautiful and poetic and captures exactly the frustration and the joy that comes from  communicating through art.

Where Will I Live? by Rosemary McCarney Where Will I Live? by Rosemary McCarney left me and my students speechless.  If you are concerned to build empathy in children towards the plight of refugee children around the world. This is the book.

Fatty Legs: A True Story
Fatty Legs: A True Story
Really grateful for the opportunity to hear Christy Jordan-Fenton and Margaret Pokiak-Fenton talk about their important work today.  Their story impacted me greatly when I first read it in 2010 and it continues to impact me today.  Read it! Fatty Legs

Twice
Some books beg to be read twice. Once to get the gist of it. Twice so one can  savour all the good parts. I’m reading a book like that now. Are you?

Bookstores After city shopping  (an activity that always leaves me feeling harried and discombobulated) how lovely to land in a bookstore and to disappear for a bit into the rich and varied land of so many lovely adventure, how to, what happened when, and that's how it used to be books.  Even thirty minutes is enough to refresh one entirely. Blessed.

Choice It's important to give kids choice and I am always happy to take student requests regarding what books they want in our Library.  If they get to pick them they will surely read them!
