We were dead in our sin, but Christ makes us alive through faith.

It's not often I air my thoughts or feelings on FB, so don't gloss over this. Being a pastor has been a great priviliege. That is a simple fact for me. However, being the "type" of pastor I am has been... at times difficult.
Let me explain... I teach word by word, precept by precept, comma by comma, period by period, paragraph by paragraph, with full disclosure on who was writing, why they were writting, who they were writing to, the original language's meaning, what it meant then and to whom it was written and what it means to us today. That's some hard work and I'm not paid by the church. I believe God of course rewards me with these increadible jobs I've had over the years, so I'm not complaining about that.
But I can cut on the radio, go on Youtube, or a church website and listen to a sermon or lesson and reach for hair I don't have and try to pull it out because of the Scripture twisting, and mental gymnastics that I hear so many ministers pull it's really frighting. E. K. Bailey once said every pastor needs a blind eye and a def ear. I know why!! Because those churches are full every Sunday.
What's being taught is pure theological fantacy life lessons on how to get ahead financially or just be happier while here and nothing or very little about sin, suffering, hope, and most of all Christ. But, the Bible says itching ears will heap to themselves teachers. Still it can be almost depressing when you see what people want in comparison with what the Word says. Sad part is I couldn't stop if I tried. I would die if I couldn't teach, I understand Jeramiah, it's got to come out.
Walking into a half empty church after working that hard to get it right can be crushing for the ego... Don't think preachers don't have egos. So this is the last couple of days of clergy appreciation month. I want to say thank you to Marla Jenkins Pittman for spearheading the nice gifts she and the other members give to me and LaCarro Boston, and the one and only Sean SN Lacy. It's nice to know someone appreciates what we do.
Perhaps I'll say something again in another 10 years, but let me say this... The best way to show your support for your pastor(s) is to do what they do. Show up and check them on what they are saying. The truth always stands up to scrutiny and I know I don't always get it right.
This message was from LeBaron also known as the alter ego of Kevin Harris.
