ASLAND AND REILYN HAVE THE SWEETEST FAMILY TRADITIONS.

I’ve ironed out more faravon cultural details than any of my other fantasy races/cultures. Asland is very proud of his faravon heritage and is very “traditional” in the way he practices within his belief system. This is important because a lot of faravon culture is build off the idea of close bonds with friends and family.

The biggest Holiday in their culture is a large feast in late winter. A lot of cultures have that so I felt like it would make sense to have one even if it isn’t for the same reasons of any irl people. The biggest part of the holiday however is arguably the preparation of the food. Families come together and spend hours upon hours cooking and preparing meals. Even Faravon children are expected to contribute in some way even if it’s just picking berries or washing up tables and dishes. This is because you are only considered to have participated in/celebrated the holiday if you contribute to the food being made.

There’s a really cool reason for this distinct line between who is/isn’t a part of the festivities. It’s not just some way to exclude people. It’s actually a loophole that by design is meant to allow those with other religions/cultural backgrounds to enjoy the banquet without “celebrating” a religion/culture they do not identify with. Does your god tell you that you cannot worship any others? No problem! You can still eat and be merry with the faravon without worry. And it’s a very very big deal to be invited to a faravon banquet. There isn’t a word for it in English (or at all. Because I made the faravon up in my mind and am not going to write a whole language for them lmao) but there is a concept in their culture which I’ve translated to “the brother at my table”. It’s a type of bond that doesn’t have anything to do with family or friendship or anything. It’s simply about who you care about and actively choose to invite into your life. Someone who would do anything for you and you them regardless of who they technically are in relation to you or where they came from. Those very intense lifelong friends and partners are the people who get invited into banquets.

Obviously Asland’s celebration of this holiday is a little complicated. He doesn’t have living faravon family and is a single father to Reilyn. Who is adopted and very distinctly not a faravon. But Asland truly never allowed that to stop him. Him and Reilyn would cook and prepare meals together. Sometimes doing so with their ships faravon crew members but mostly visiting and staying with Asland’s lifelong friend Juni for the season. Holidays on the ship would be loud and boisterous with a lot of drinking. But years when they made it back to the mainland would be quiet and mostly empty. I don’t think either one is better or worse than the other. The parties on the ship would definitely entertain young reilyn and be right up his ally. But Juni is a much closer person two both rei and asland and so the slower paced and quieter holidays would be in some ways more. Or maybe just differently. Impactful.

As reilyn’s story progresses and more friends are made and reunited these holidays would become a lot better. Asland having thorn and warren to invite and share old time stories with would absolutely be a sight to see. Thorn doesn’t drink much so he would probably be laughing at Asland and Warren as they got into light hearted arguments over who is the better warrior. Zafran would join the argument and very quickly end it with her being the best (she’s a vampire killer. They are no match for how cool she is) and juni would tell Theo and rei the most embarrassing stories of asland/warren/adonis/thorn as teenagers. Some of the guys would get into wrestling matches in the yard and play sport games to pass the time. Reilyn simultaneously being the best (he’s the youngest and most spry) and the worst (everyone is targeting him and he is the least experienced) .Theo and thorn would make tiny, sparkler sized fireworks with their magic. Juni would make sure they supplied so much food and booze for the whole night. THAT would be the coolest family celebration in the world I think. Everyone there wants to be there and is wanted there. My characters would have so much fucking fun.

Quite a few lmao. Reilyn and Theo are both gay and I’ve toyed with the idea of Theo being trans quite a few times. zafran is a bisexual trans woman. Thorn is asexual and liked a man (so definitely not straight but. Maybe not full gay. Not sure yet). Calypso is pan and paradis is lesbian but they are both very under developed characters right now lmao. Juni, Adonis, asland, etc are default settings. Warren is too but he is also the kind of straight guy who would also get way too graphic about what he would do to Ryan Reynolds or some other celebrity crush.

HA ok sorry this one is fun and it immediately is perfect for my oc Theodoyrn. I love oc prompts I’m gonna answer so many now that i have this sideblog.

Theo has been kidnapped twice. The first time he was kidnapped he was minding his own on his school campus. (Fantasy Skyrim inspired setting. Mage college.) he was up very late and completely overworking himself and left his dorm room in search for basically a mana potion when he ran into a cloaked nonstudent speed walking through the halls. Reilyn had broken in to carry out a hit on the college headmaster. In the panic that ensued Reilyn was surrounded by an entire university worth or mages. Theo being unable to use any magic at the time was the easiest person to take hostage so that he could escape. Rei was on the run from essentially an assassin secret society and had only taken the hit in attempts to get himself back on their good side. Rei and Theo eventually get over the less than ideal meetcute they were dealt LMAO.

The second time Theo was kidnapped was by the assassin secret Society. By that point he had voluntarily joined reilyn and another character warren on their mission to track down all the assassins who were after rei, the headmaster, and a collection of other Important officials. All three of them know that Theo is being used as bait at that point to lure warren and reilyn into a trap, but finders keepers reilyn kidnapped him first and wants him back.
