There was NOTHING easy with this patio door replacement. 1) Old door was attached to the foundation wall...we cut, enlarged & sanded foundation wall for new R.O. 2) Bottom of foundation not level...sanded concrete & patched with hydraulic cement where needed 3) No sill plate...Installed Sill seal to pressure treated sill plate. Sill seal is siliconed & stapled onto bottom side of plate. Silicone is applied to cement then sill is shot into concrete 4) Header & upper wall sill plates were horrible and had termite damage...new header & plates were installed 5) From top to bottom left side of wall was out of plumb by 3/4". Right side was out 1/2", angling down into house...installed new 2×8 jack studs plumb, attached to sill seal where it met concrete & shot them in & notched upper into a 2×4 to match wall studs 6) Installed OSB sheathing 7) Installed Tyvek House Wrap & Tape on inside of studs. 8) Installed Tyvek FlexWrap on sill 9) Installed Expansion Joint between foundation wall & patio slab...pavers going down in the Spring 10) Used Cement All Construction Grout to patch broken up slab 11) Installed Andersen FrenchWood Gliders 12) Tomorrow we install Tyvek/Dupont Flashing around & tape off house wrap...then siding guys will cap & flash everything as necessary. #CDI #ConstructiveDesignInc #termitedamage #suffolk #instagramcontractors #contractorsofinsta #homeimprovement #renovation #exteriorrenovation #doinitright #windows #doors #patiodoorinstallation #frenchwoodgliders #andersenwindows @andersen_windows @tyvekdesign #dupont #deerpark #deerparkproject (at Deer Park, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/B7UeuuKpf_y/?igshid=jarvethgiyqa

The days of installing windows and doors with visqueen are long gone. This is one of a best practice methods to installing windows in a water resistant & air infiltrating manner. 1. Bottom & top of windows, the Tyvek gets cut even with opening. Top gets cut upward at a 45° angle approximately 10", and tacked up out of the way. 2. Sides get cut 1/2 the thickness of the stud and Tyvek taped to stud. This prevents air infiltration. 3.Tyvek FlexWrap is installed on sill and 6" up stud. This prevents water from ever getting to wood sill frame 4. Window is installed into opening level, plumb & square. 5. Top of window gets Tyvek tape over nailing flange to sheathing. 6. Tyvek/Dupont Flashing is installed along the sides with a 1/2" onto window cladding. (See detail for cutting side folded over top & top flashing over sides). 7. Top piece of flashing is installed. 8. Tyvek is untracked & folded over flashing & Tyvek tape goes across top to secure it. 9. 45° angles get Tyvek taped. 10. We can't put flashing tape on bottom because it could trap water if it ever made its way through everything else, but what we can do is, in the last detail, is put a Tyvek "skirt" on the bottom which gets tapped to nailing flange (but NOT the bottom) which helps to further prevent air infiltration. Normally the skirt is at least 12" long below window, this install that was obviously not possible due to the foundation wall being so close. 11. Spray Foam inside around window to complete Install!!! One additional step can be used which is to add a pitched sill before sill flashing goes on. Generally I do that when near water as an added layer of protection.
