full summary: Working at a convenience store in Gotham City is a thankless and often dangerous job. Especially if you are working the graveyard shift.

You quite liked your brief stint at the Circle K in Keystone City, if only because the Flash could be found taking care of crime before they even happened. Plus, your store was the one he frequented the most for snacks and drinks to replenish his energy.

Even if your friends, Steph and Tim, don’t actually believe that he visited you and in fact said you two were friends. (No, seriously, he did!)

But a surprise visit from him with Red Robin in tow, a pointed insult to the Bats’ general hostility and unwelcoming nature, and suddenly, you have a revolving door of vigilantes at odd hours of the night.

Your most frequent visitor and the one that bothers you for a reason you can’t articulate since it also coincides with Tim Drake’s sudden avoidance of you?

And I’m sitting there sweating because like… I’m wearing my shirt with the lesbian flag on it, and he’s the most popular jock in school, and always has this look on his face that say ‘I can and will kill you’. No Matter What

It was just normal Sunday night family dinner. There was no reason to be worried. Except that everyone’s minds worked exactly the same and since she was sure her family were bloodhounds in their previous lives, she knew they’d smell her anxiety a mile away. Somehow though, she managed to keep it under wraps until dessert. A strawberry shortcake that Alfred had prepared—her favorite, though everything that she’d eaten that night had no taste upon her tongue.

Her answers were short and clipped and she tried hard to not sound upset or off, hoping it was working, but it really wasn’t and more than once, she felt her father’s weighted stare over her. She felt like she had ants in her pants, she kept squirming so much and after taking one too many deep breaths to give herself some form of courage, her heart was about to explode.

“I have something to say!” she blurted out in a panicked tone, her eyes wide and everyone’s gaze settled on her.

Dick fell silent in the middle of his story. “Okay,” he said with a smile. “Go ahead, sis.”

She chewed her bottom lip and for once in her life, she felt terrified. Which was disturbing as hell because she built a reputation on being the oldest sibling who was unshakable. Nothing got past her wall or made her cower. Not aliens, not gods, nothing. She was the rock of the family and she always would be.

“Queenie?” Jason worried. “You good?”

“Yeah,” she answered quickly, poking at the sponge cake on her plate; it had gone soggy now, much like her courage that was dwindling with each passing second that she couldn’t get the truth out.

“Sister, what is it that you need to tell us?” Damian questioned. “You look anxious.”

“Yeah, demon-spawn is right,” Tim agreed with a snort. “You look like you ate bad shrimp.”

Her brothers giggled and as hard as she tried, she couldn’t stop her throat from tightening involuntarily, and tears prickled in her eyes. She looked up at them and they gaped at her.

“Sweetheart, are you alright?” her father asked, and she shook her head, squeezing her eyes shut to avoid crying.

“No…no, I’m scared.” She replied and he reached over, resting his hand atop hers.

“You don’t have to be scared of whatever you need to say,” he promised. “You know us.” She tried to smile, but she couldn’t, and he murmured, “Deep breath.”

Inhaling a lungful of air, she held it for a moment then exhaled slowly and opened her eyes, whispering, “I’m…gay.”

For a moment there was pure silence, and she prepared herself for the onslaught of harsh words from her younger brothers and father when, “Oh my God, I thought you were going to say you were dying.”

She blinked the tears from her eyes and looked at Jason who was sinking in his chair. “What?”

He met her gaze. “Queenie, I thought you were going to tell us you had cancer or something.” He sighed heavily in relief. “Thank God.”

“You—you don’t care?” she questioned, and Dick snorted.

“Sis, who do you think we are?” he smiled. “You’re our older sister and we love you.” Tim and Damian nodded, and she glanced at Bruce who was watching her intently.

“Did you know?”

He nodded. “I was waiting for you to come to me.”

“Why didn’t you say anything?”

“It was your right,” he replied calmly, then leaned over and squeezed her hand, his face solemn and he said, “I love you no matter what, I just want you to be happy and to always be who you are.”

Fresh tears gathered in her eyes and she let out a watery laugh. “Yeah?”

He stood from his seat and pulled her up, wrapping her in his arms as she buried her face in his shoulder, crying quietly. “Don’t try to be what you’re not sweetheart, because I love you no matter what.”

Her only response were sobs and her brothers jumped up and ran to them, wrapping their arms around them, squeezing tightly. Bruce watched them fondly, tears gathering in his eyes.

They love me, no matter what.

the world's hatred for black women honestly hurts me so much. it's very lonely being a black women sometimes, we only have ourselves and sometimes not even that.
