honestly eo3 might have some of my favorite stratums in Etrian Odyssey.

The first stratum is so colorful and immediately sets the vibes for what would be an underwater adventure, it stands out against the five other Green Forest Starting Areas (though Etrian Odyssey does a good job at making even the Generic Green Forest distinctive from past Generic Green Forests) the second takes everything beautiful about Azure Rainforest and kicks it up a notch and tells you, no, you're really underwater, there's really some ancient technology at play making this possible, fight some Literal Fish now.

and i know Molten Caves isn't exactly a unique or necessarily beautiful stratum but god I love it. The music hammering in the background. The very cave walls shining with embers. The few plant-life there is glowing alongside the rest of the heat. It's worth pointing out that as much as the series has grown there's only ever been one other volcano level in EO, and that's locked in a mystery dungeon spin-off, and there's just something so beautiful about being able to look across the lava lakes.

Abyssal Shrine is fucking insane. I don't even have to say anything about Abyssal Shrine. It's beautiful, it's the perfect setting for a Deep One hideout, it's got some great environmental puzzles that really suit the narrative around it, we've seen a lot of ruins but this is a still living and breathing society and you are not supposed to be here and fuck does it hit that chord.

and yes. Porcelain Forest + the Cyclopean Haunt aren't like, the most Stunning of final strata out there. We've got them competing with fucking. Flying Robot Cathedral. Lost Shinjuku. Space conservatory. The fleshy insides of Yggdrasil. A rift in space-time itself. Whatever the fuck that horror movie shit in eo4 was. But they're still very perfect for the narrative around them, Porcelain Forest is absolutely gorgeous in its own right and is a great cool-down after Molten Caves + Abyssal Shrine, the entire environment moving and twitching in the Haunt is downright nauseating in the best way.

the environments in EO in general are always a strong suit and eo3 fucking delivers on all fronts. there's not a single weak link here.
