I'm reading through Ayn Rand's works (finished anthem, 50 pages from finishing fountainhead) and I know ive been infested with tumblr brain rats because i just keep seeing Peter Keating and Gail Wynand speak to Howard Roark or describe him to someone else and im just like

Its not always easy to put into words exactly why this rubber boy has become so so important to me but OP did it perfectly. It is genuinely so refreshing to see a protagonist- especially a shonen protagonist be so openly loving and happy and caring for all of those around him. He really is just THE character ever.

luffy IS selfish. i need to correct myself. he does everything simply because he wants to and he doesn’t care how big of a mess he makes to get his way. but his way is always freedom and kindness and food for the hungry and water in parched lands and happiness for everyone around him. his selfishness is so inherently selfless that it feels wrong to call him selfish but he is undeniably selfish. it just so happens that he’s kind, too.
