the italicized oh. often seen in romance novels and fanfics. when a character looks at someone, wondering why their chest tightens when they're near, why their heart beats quicken at the slightest touches, why they lose their breathe at the sight of them and suddenly realization dawns on them— oh. they've been in love for a long time now. 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐟𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐞𝐭, 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐞𝐝. though when you love, you fall deeply. 𝐢'𝐦 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐚 𝐥𝐨𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐧𝐱𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞, and you're more inclined to fall in love with a longtime friend than a stranger. though, 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐮𝐫𝐞. and maybe if you have someone in mind, this is your sign to tell them.

𝐌𝐄𝐌𝐎𝐑𝐘 𝐈𝐒 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐃 𝐎𝐅 𝐆𝐈𝐆𝐆𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐆 / 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐂𝐔𝐑𝐕𝐄 𝐎𝐅 𝐖𝐈𝐃𝐄, 𝐓𝐎𝐎𝐓𝐇𝐘 𝐒𝐌𝐈𝐋𝐄𝐒. breeze carrying with it the tang of summer fruit: a haze of childhood nostalgia. but those two little girls are grown now, and it seemed worlds away. still, even despite time & distance, sakura never forgot. even after all these years. how could she ? ino was everything she wanted to be as a little girl. beautiful, smart, & not too shabby with a shuriken. she was always there. guiding her, encouraging her. and it was because of this that she’d been able to grow into the flower she was today. 

and it would be a lie to say that sakura didn’t miss her deeply. that she did not regret it. this was why she’d come, actually. she couldn’t blame ino for any anger, & she knew going in that she might refuse, ( understandably so ) but sakura couldn’t help but want to try & mend things between them. to build their friendship anew.

and so she shook her head. ❛ i didn’t ask anyone else, ❜ sakura clarified, ❛ i … wanted to go with you. a pause taken, no more than a beat, before a continued, ❛ it’s okay if you don’t want to. i know i haven’t been around. and i’m sorry for that. really. and i’d like to try to change that. if you’ll allow me. ❜

𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐟𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐳𝐞. it’s unexpected, really. not once did ino ever think sakura would actually see how much she was hurting. in childhood, ino had built an island for the two of them to keep sakura safe from the taunting and teasing of the other kids. no one existed, no one mattered, except the two of them.  after she left, the island morphed from a haven into a prison. yet, ino did not regret it. even now, she would choose sakura over and over again, just as she did then.

“ you wanted to go ... with ... me? ” if she didn’t know her any better, ino would have suspected this was some sort of cruel prank. hues search sakura’s features, looking for malice. all she can find is an abundance of earnestness. play it cool, ino. don’t be the one that goes running back to her.

“ hmmm,  i mean i guess i can see if i have time in my schedule. you’re not the only one who has asked me, you know. ” a bold faced lie, unless you counted shikamaru and chōji expecting her to tag along with them. “ so,  are you paying? ”

                “  i  just  …  i  just  …  ”    don’t  cry,  don’t  cry,  don’t  cry.  you’re  so  ugly  when  you  cry,  allie  tries  to  breathe,  a  shaky  inhale.    “  i  need  to-  i  don’t  know,  i  need  to  get  out  of  here.  it’s,  like,  making  me  sick,  or  something.  ”

oh.    it’s the quiet realization that you are not alone in this world.  no matter how pretty and poised you were, how much yoga or positive self-talk or breathing you did    𝐝𝐞𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐲 𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐜𝐡.  it would suck every ounce out of you and then some. 

“ for real? ” she regrets it as soon as it comes out of her mouth. of course she’s being for real, dumbass. “ okay, shit, uh          ” hands brush against her jeans, “ hey, don’t cry, al. you want out, i got you an out. 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐦𝐞, 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭? ”

TWIN AU.   an au where the muses are twins. plenty of options here. they could have grown up together, or they could have gotten separated at birth. maybe one is the “good twin” and the other is the “evil twin”.

TIME TRAVEL AU.   if both muses are the same character, maybe muse A travels back in time to ensure their past selves, muse B, don’t make the same mistake that muse A made in the future. if the two muses are not the same character, maybe muse A travels back in time and meets their ancestor, muse B, who looks a lot like themselves. or alternatively, muse A travels into the future, making muse A the ancestor to muse B.

CLONE AU.   where muse A was cloned, be it willingly or against their will, resulting in muse B. what happens from here has endless possibilities, really!

SHAPESHIFTER AU.   muse A is a shapeshifter and shapeshifts into muse B.

MIRROR WORLD AU.   muse A and muse B come from two worlds that are each other’s mirror worlds. one day, while muse A looks into the mirror, they notice that their reflection suddenly starts moving on their own as the two worlds begin to collide with one another.

DOPPELGÄNGER AU.   muse A is the doppelgänger of muse B. bonus points, sometimes doppelgänger are seen as ghostly or paranormal phenomenon and bringers of bad luck, so perhaps muse B is some supernatural being and/or bringer of bad luck to muse A.

MULTIVERSE AU.   the multiverse exists and muse B and muse A are the same person, but from different universes, and at some point in their life stories, their paths took different directions. doesn’t necessarily have to be that one ended up becoming good and the other evil, could be something smaller such as one ended up working as one thing as their job, and the other got another occupation or something small like that. or maybe one was born as some supernatural being or with powers or was turned into a supernatural being / gained powers, etc. there’s really endless possibilities here as well.

it wasn’t entirely true. petra knew what people said about her in whispers and to her face. their words stung, but she was pretty numb to it. it took a lot more to make her feel badly. “emo skunk?” petra questioned, a forced laugh escaping her dark painted lips. she chewed her gum. “other people’s perceptions of me aren’t my concern.”

“ yeah, well, if you ask me, seems like you do a lot of shit just to piss people off. ” his tongue pushes the end of the toothpick stuck between his teeth from side to side, his eyebrows raising.   

“ the whole, ‘imma do whatever i want and ion give a shit what other people think ’ i mean shit, isn’t doing wild shit cause you don’t give a fuck what people think, kinda doing shit for other people? cause sounds like you still give a shit about getting a reaction. ” but shit, what did he know?

          winter  wonderland  in  hyde  park  is  a  great  place  to  bring  your  mates,  honestly,  but  when  it’s  just  the  two  of  them  it’s  kind  of…  weird,  innit,  it  being  cuffing  season  and  all.  it’s  just  gonna  look  wrong.  really,  for  being  a  secret  agent  phoenix  is  very  conscious  of  how  normal  people  perceive  him,  but  that  won’t  stop  jett.  it’s  cool,  though,  and  having  her  visit  without  showing  her  the  massive  winter  fair  would  be  a  waste,  so  he’s  just  gonna  suck  it  up  and  take  her.  there’s  tons  of  things  to  see  and  money  to  spend,  and  dare  each  other  to  go  on  rides  higher  and  wilder  than  the  previous  one.  

          when  they  get  to  the  ice  rink,  he  can’t  really  say  no  either,  the  challenge  here  poses  itself,  and  even  putting  on  the  skates  becomes  a  race.  only  when  he  stalks  to  the  entrance  of  the  rink  is  it  when  his  confidence  drops  a  little  bit.  honestly,  phoenix  can’t  remember  the  last  time  he’s  gone  ice  skating.  it’ll  work  out,  right?  like  riding  a  bike,  you  can’t  forget  these  things.  right??

          “ bro,  i  haven’t  been  ice  skating  in  ages!  i  need  a  warm  up  before  we  race,  honestly. ”

               𝐣𝐞𝐭𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝𝐧'𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 she had been in the snow for fun. russia didn’t count since she was too busy dodging bullets and smoke bombs to really appreciate the beauty of it all. the chill sticks to her cheeks, the tip of her nose and her knuckles, dusting them all with a rosy shade of pink. yet, she’s still determined as ever to get her skates on before phoenix, fingers dancing with the laces and pulling them tight. 

              “ awwwwww,  come on,  you’re not scared,  are you? ” jett taunts, the corner of her mouth tilting upwards. as soon as her eyes flicker to the rink she’s bouncing on her toes ready to get out there. “ look,  if you’re really feeling that spooked,  i’ll hold your hand,  you big baby. then after that i’ll totally smoke you in this race and we can go home. i’ll even make it fast so it’s less painful for you. deal? ”
