Sand Octopus (Octopus kaurna), Mornington Peninsula, Victoria, Australia.
Like many species of octopus, the females of the Southern Sand Octopus will stay with their eggs, not even leaving to feed: guarding them, while keeping them clean and parasite free; until they hatch. At this point, the female usually dies.
