Do you consider fanfiction legitimate writing?

I won the 2004 Hugo Award for Best short story for an H. P. Lovecraft /Arthur Conan Doyle mashup fiction, so fanfiction had better be legitimate, because I'm not giving the Hugo back.

Or the 20O5 Locus Award for Best Novelette. I'm not giving that back either.

Hey I'm sorry if this is a stupid or ignorant question or if you're not the person to ask but, if we were to decolonize the Americas, what would that mean for immigrants (specifically non white immigrants and refugees) and black people who's ancestors were forcibly brought there? Would they be allowed to stay due to not being colonists or are they considered colonists regardless? I am all for giving indigenous Americans their land back I only want to better understand aspects of it.

Decolonization does not mean "kick everyone else out". It's just about dismantling current governments, countries, and borders and returning land sovereignty to indigenous peoples to do with as they see fit.

I have yet to meet an actual indigenous person who genuinely wants to relocate people, and that's because we know how that feels! We know what it's like to be forced out of our homes and sent somewhere that we don't know and don't understand and we know how much it fucking sucks!

The idea that there's sovereignty movements out there pushing to send people "back to their countries" is a false one, spread to make indigenous activists look bad. It's also a form of projection because white people cannot comprehend giving power back to oppressed peoples and those peoples NOT immediately turning the tables on them and doing everything that they did to us.

Often Hermione’s nightmares were so violent not even Cissy could wake her up.

Even if she was scared and hurt from seeing her lover screaming, locked inside memories with monsters that resemble herself, Madame Black would always whisper her out of trance, bring her back to reality with sweet, caring words rather than with rushed touches or desperate shoves.

She would always be the first thing Granger would see after she opened up her eyes, tears falling down already wet cheeks and throat raw from screaming - for help, for mercy, for death.

Narcissa would always be there.

She would always be ready to embrace her, to welcome her back into reality, to soothe her into the awaken world with a taste that was only Narcissa’s - something that resembled eternity, and love, and forgiveness. Something that was exactly what Hermione longed for now that everything else seemed to be made out of shadows, and sorrow, and hopeless ruins.

Sometimes I’ll be off doing stuff - laundry, errands, work, hanging with friends - and then check AO3 and see that I’ve gotten kudos on something or will get an email about a comment and it never fails to blow my mind a little, that while I’m sorting socks or buying broccoli someone has been reading something I’ve written and gotten something out of it. It doesn’t matter how many times it happens. It is a thrill and an honor and a source of happiness every. single. time.
