hi, this is @chaosister speaking and the urge to say my theories about this situation is so STRONG, okay so.

I think if rin decided to quit football when sae told him, his relationship with his brother would be much (okay, maybe a little) better since he wouldn't be striving to be better than his brother/surpass sae because of their uhhh fight...?

as ling said above, rin would've had wasted his potential in football but at the same time he could've chosen another sport to focus on and actually be good at that?? (for example volleyball or uhh swimming??)

I feel like rin is actually a child prodigy and able to adapt to whatever sports he's playing. also, regarding sae and rin's relationship- it would be distant but rin's hatred for his brother would lessen a little bit but the wound is still there. (sae DID just tell his younger brother to give up on something he's passionate about.) but uhm, at the same time I feel like rin's whole character would have some changes if he chose to not pursue football anymore... he also wouldn't had unlocked his full capabilities when it comes to playing football since, you know, he isn't playing it anymore and there's no drive to be better than his brother.

if rin did choose to play another sport, I feel like he would still thrive to be better than his brother but not in a be-the-best-in-this-sport way, more like surpass him in fame and also make his name known around the globe. ( of course rin would still choose to play his best since he doesn't like losing and this results to him becoming one of the best players on that sport. )

i have more to say but I can't put it into words?? hope all of that made sense to anyone. (this is just an idea vomit HAHAHA)

there's a lot of possibilities of what would happen to rin and his relationship with his brother if he chose to not pursue football after his brother told him to drop the sport.

I'm really wondering what would happen if Rin just quitted football when Sae told him to. What do you think about it?

I'm gonna be honest I actually have no idea but rin have alot of potential so If he actually did what his brother told to it would be such a waste
