An small headcanon:

When Pico started suffering from schizophrenia and was diagnosed, he was not getting good grades. Torn pages, confusing handwriting that avoided lines to write on top of, and messages that had nothing to do with class exercises.

On the other hand, Darnell was aware of Pico and noticed him after his return to class having missed the day of the fateful accident because of Cassandra. He found Pico looking tired, stressed, uncomfortable in the classroom and taking advantage of every moment of recess time to sit in a corner near the exit door.

This puzzled Darnell. The teacher, Mr. Flacit, did not understand Pico's condition (apparently, he did not know what to do to make Pico more comfortable); Darnell, on the other hand, wrote a request to the school's coordinator so that Pico could have curricular adjustments so that his homework could be done from the comfort of his own home.

Nene on the other hand, was in the psychiatric ward and had academic permission not to attend classes.

After the coordination and the rector of the school as well as teachers, agreed to this request to help Pico; homework from home via Gmail to his parents with all the activities. Darnell took advantage whenever he could to accompany Pico and help him with his homework, keeping his handwriting from getting distorted and staying with him until dusk holding the container of pills to treat the disease.
