sorry for the batspam but like. i also think bruce as someone very flawed, under a more grounded/realistic lens of wealth and class analysis, the privileges he does have that allow him to operate the way he does, and the ways that this could and often does harm other people even when thats not the goal or it may not be something he is acutely aware of, is so much more interesting than rich charming morally upstanding power fantasy bruce/bat. idk.... make him kind of a weird disconnected freak!! this is prob why i love 2022 batman because they lean into that side of the character, him being a brooding mumbling emo who can be really one track minded because a lot of what he does is about revenge and his own trauma not necessarily some higher purpose or ideal, even if that is interwoven or becomes interwoven with it at some point.

i think this is another reason i yearn so strongly for the scrapped gerard way kingdom of the mad project.... looking into batmans own weird fucked up psyche and making him just. a total weirdo, just as "crazy" as any of the rogues, hes really not as different from them as he may want to think..... my favourite flavour

if i worked for, say, google and then found out the ceo/main financial benefactor of this company/its legacy/the nepo baby in charge was using his billions to be an extrajudicial extralegal crime fighting vigilante instead of being at least a little bit normal about the crime problem in the city? id feel some kind of way idk....... tho lets be real wayne enterprises is like lockheed martin if they had a philanthropy wing -- oh wait, they do. art imitating life or life imitating art? anyways sliding in my hot take that philanthropy and charity are not equivalent to or a replacement for wealth redistribution..............

also. again, billionaires are built on exploitation, whether or not this is something bruce is actively engaging in or aware of, and unless we wanna say gotham is in a universe where somehow theres crime and wealth inequality but bruce is the only ethical billionaire (which like. fine if thats your bag but imo thats not as interesting) then somewhere along that chain there is labour being exploited in order for the wayne family and bruce as its sole heir to be so fucking rich. wayne enterprises is a multinational conglomerate with a bunch of subsidiaries in areas like biotech, weapons manufacturing, pharmaceuticals/medicine, chemicals, all kinds of shit across various comics and shows and iterations but like. come on....

also ps as i said before my feelings re: batman and stuff. batman neither all good or all bad. batman complicated

thinking more about jin's comic-based verse and specifically as it pertains to a gotham/bat-universe kinda vibe bc im very limited in what comics i read and what comic related stuff i usually engage with but give me gotham and batman and the rogues any day

so, some basic default v. 003 stuff

as mentioned in my verse post (tagged in pinned), jin acquires his telekinesis and forcefield powers through experimental medical testing done to him as an infant. since this plot point originates his verse based in the boys, i don't have an exact 1:1 for the details and can flexible as to who is responsible for this experimentation and the surrounding details. his mother was not fully aware of what, exactly, she was signing up for, instead under the impression that he was undergoing some kind of treatment or testing for neurological diseases. considering her husband (jin's father) had recently died due to a brain tumor and cancer caught "too late" so to speak, and with a language barrier, she was persuaded to let doctors perform what she thought was new, albeit a bit unproven, but still sound and ethical medical care.

although his mother was paid for this, it was not a significant enough amount of money to be totally life changing. they had debts, she was a single parent, and eventually that money was used up and things went back to normal, though with slowly emerging telekinetic powers to complicate matters. deception aside, this is a big reason he feels so slighted. that his life and the consequences of these actions were worth so little, that despite trusting her kid and being used and lied to, she wasn't even set up to not have to struggle. he was used like a lab rat, like an animal, and wasnt even given the dignity of a stable middle class life in exchange for his service to science without his knowledge or consent.

the trial didn't carry on long enough in jin's case, possibly because his mother backed out or rescinded, maybe because the company went under, but for whatever reason they didn't see things through. by the time the telekinetic abilities he gained became obvious and he had to learn to control them he was on his own doing so.

despite his anger about his situation, he doesnt necessarily regret his abilities. they do give him an edge, though its a card he holds close to his chest. he uses these powers to enrich himself and his immediate circle (usually just his mother), because if he doesnt who will?

his investigation into the company/companies responsible likely leads to him to gotham, but the details of why i am again flexible on. plus this is a crime ridden place full of all kinds of weirdos where he feels like he can cloak his shenanigans (mostly theft and petty acts revenge against his personal enemies or the upper classes he feels scornful towards but also envious of). there is so much shit going on in that city it would be an attractive spot to slide under the radar of bigger, badder criminals for a while, a place where law enforcement is clearly busy and stretched thin. and while there may be various vigilantes, theres a limited number compared to what seems like a never ending stream of Big Bads and their henchpeople.

part of the reason he has his suit fitted with bright detailing is to draw attention towards the gear and away from him. he is the source of his abilities but it works in his favour to let people think hes another vigilante with some weird tech. plus he likes the look, and compared to some of the other publicly known freaks and villains in this universe its pretty tame.

the suit actually limits him more than it helps him, but the benefit of concealing his identity and throwing suspicion is more valuable than the limits it places on him. his senses are important for his ability to mentally map his surroundings, and his helmet and visor do limit his peripheral visibility somewhat and can impact his hearing by muffling less obvious sounds. he also has less tactile sensation due to his gloves, and has to effectively work through the layers of material around his head, since his brain is the nexus of his telekinesis.

his equipment is DIY'd or configured through his social network and isn't very high tech to compensate for these weaknesses, at least not early on before he accumulates more money and connections, criminal or otherwise.

as a gotham transplant and also just. a normal person he probably would have 0 suspicion initially about the bat's actual identity. the thought of the public persona of bruce being batman makes no sense to him at all. tbh he probably thinks batman is some kind of government agent or psyop or something.

if he did ever learn that bat's identity? honestly he's kinda pissed off. some billionaire is going around making himself a one man police force with a potentially tenuous relationship to any body of oversight (again this varies in comics and verses but the point stands)...? that doesnt sit right with him, and at least if the bat is a govt agent that kind makes sense, but this is prob harder for him to understand... he does what he does because he didn't win the birth lottery and have rich parents, otherwise he would be chillin at home moving things around his penthouse with his mind.

potential for jin to have a day job at wayne enterprises makes this so much funnier. stealing from his boss, bruce wayne, who is also batman. your ultimate boss at work makes money off of exploitation at some level (bc how the fuck else do people become billionaires, even if its inherited, like. economics.) and is using it to do this? he'd had some.... thoughts and feelings about it for sure

10. talk about your writing

i try to be proselike and mimic the way the words sound in the voice in my head. i like to use sensory words and get a little pretentious with it sometimes. i try my best to keep a varied vocabulary and to use a combination of shorter sentences and longer ones. i also like to use onomatopeias for extra flavour.

i also write in (probably not always totally proper) canadian english so i tend to have a mixture of british and american features in my writing. i tend to prefer the american -ize ending over the more british -ise (realize vs realise), prefer british spelling of words like dialogue > dialog but prefer american spelling of other words like aluminum > aluminium and program > programme, i spell words with a u like colour or favourite, and sometimes end up interchanging between things like theater/theatre or center/centre or

but in some ways life has lately had me feeling like this a lil bit!! not all the time, not in all ways, but 2025 has been kind of rough so far. but we're here and taking it day by day. at least rp has been fun for me lately and i'm getting back to some verses i haven't written on this blog yet, but used to before on prior blogs. yaaaaay

17. what motivates you?

usually media in some way, esp at the start of a dynamic or a verse. a movie or movies, books and comics, music, video games, different things that will remind me of characters, or inspire dynamics or themes.

once a dynamic gets going, or a plot is in motion, the chemistry and back and forth with my writing partner keeps the flame alive and keeps me motivated to engage.

The masked stranger knew well he was yet to establish a true presence for himself in this crime ridden cesspit of a city. Of course she had no idea who he was, what he could do. But he knew of her. Everyone in Gotham knew the legend of the Catwoman.

He titled his head. The purple glow of his suit detailing suggested some level of customization, money spent. Their shared habit of thievery was the source, though he wondered if she would pick up on that.

“Elysium. If I am a guy, that is. But that’s something I’ll leave to your imagination.”

He was, but she didn’t know that. Whatever served to protect his identity best would be the narrative, and his androgynous motorcycle gear, voice modulator, and flashy looking equipment were all part of the smoke and mirrors of his persona. Let them think what they will: that he could be a she, that his abilities were tied to the suit or the gloves or the glowing violet striping along his arms and helmet.

“I won’t get in your way, wherever it is you’re going. Time is money, cover of night and all that. I’m sure you have some grand escapade planned.”

He's impressed, sure, but annoyed despite her talents. Enough years as a Gotham transplant have sharpened his senses enough to know when someone was attempting to pull a fast one on him. He swiped his possessions back, eyes under his visor fixated on the cat.

The modulator in his motorcycle helmet muffled his voice. In his modified bike gear he was anonymous, androgynous; he could be damn near anyone under his meager disguise and he liked it that way.

"It's a good thing we have an understanding," he said, pocketing his wallet and zipping it in place in his jacket. "I really have no intention of taking anything from the undeserving, and for now that includes you."

Eddie was right and he knew it. He sneered and turned away, too embarrassed to make eye contact. His words seemed to travel faster than his thoughts, faster than his impulse control. The response was kinder in some ways than he had anticipated. The sting of pity, however, ran underneath a veil of compassion as far as Jin was concerned.

What made it worse was his own refusal to distance himself. He was past the point where he felt he could cut things off and run, as much as some part of him still wanted to escape and pretend none of this has ever happened. He had just inadvertently emotionally flayed himself open, and now he was facing the anticlimactic and uncomfortable consequences.

He bristles. Something about Eddie's words twist and burn.

"You're the one sitting here acting like you're cursed or something. It's like no matter what I do, it'll be wrong, because if we're happy — and I thought we were — then it's some kind of bad omen. If we're not, well, what would the point be?"

He sighed. His chest felt heavy. More word vomit. He rubbed his temples.

"Sorry —" he managed, "I just... I don't understand. I need to care more about myself, but you won't let yourself be happy? If I have to care more about myself, then you do too. It's only fair."

eddie wasn't sure what he was expecting, but a confession like that wasn't it at all. the part of him that hates himself and is drowning in it wants to take this as an out and lash out, run. he does care about this person though and how much of his life can be spent running from what he wants ? even now when he has it ?

" you should care. " he doesn't really know what to say but that feels important to say. he thinks about chris begging someone to love him like this and his heart breaks. his heart breaks for the person in front of him too. he leans against the wall and just looks at him. he could be a bit kinder, a bit more tender but that's scary. it's easier to bite. this is exactly what he meant. he hurts people. " you need to care. you need to have more self worth. "

it's a little bit hypocritical.

he rubs his hands together with anxiety. " i can't tell you things if you're just going to -- " he trails off, unsure what to say. eddie does really want to be with him. it's been fun. jin's helped him come out, helped explore himself and it's felt good, not just the sex but everything else in between too. it's always about eddie, though. he doesn't know what to do with that. " i'm not going anywhere but i do need you to -- i need you to care about yourself. " hypocritical, again. but at least he didn't say it out loud.

There was a killer on the loose, after all. A dark figure, a mysterious stranger, who roamed the streets at night for his prey that he flayed open and displayed like some kind of sick sculptor using human flesh as his medium.

A bar patio was as good a place as any to talk, he figured. The city rushed by them. too busy to be concerned with their conversation. Streetcars squealed along their tracks, cars and busses hummed, feet tamped against pavement, and bike bells chirped warnings of their riders' approach in the symphony of a sunny weekend on Roncesvalles Avenue.

"Those letters he's sent to the papers have people spooked. It is creepy, though. I'm not surprised it's attracted international attention."

Jin tapped on the table with his fingertips. He eyed the detective, curious. Someone or something had brought him here up across the border. Notoriety and fame, money, an intellectual challenge, all could be a siren song to the right ear. There was the great mystery of the murders, and the smaller one nestled within Henry's motives for poking around.

"You might be barking up the wrong tree, though. I don't really know anything beyond what the papers do. I saw one of the crime scenes taped off on my route to work, but that's about it."
